Just fitted my mud flaps to the front. Was really useful previously watched your vlog. Turned it into a pleasurable job, well almost. Thanks Rick 👍

Definitely a must id say rick , a job I could do with getting done to be honest , well done in doing it as it’s one of those jobs where you say “ I’ll do it next week “ and never do it 😂👍

Yep as much as I don’t like the look I think it’s wise..... trouble is I think I’ll have to do the rear now as it looks odd...

Thanks for the video. This is a job I must do soon, the mud flaps for the Ducato are underwhelming but the electric step does need some more protection.

Our new van has factory fitted ones, way more substantial

I fitted the same Mudflaps to our Peugeot Boxer, piece of cake!! I didn't even need to turn the wheel slightly! If you use your van more in better weather you won't get so much crud accumulate, but worth it. :-)

Yeah not too bad really hopefully we can use it a lot soon 👍

Thanks Rick. Nice straight forward video giving good fitting instructions. Had been considering mud flaps so good advise. 👍

Great advice. We didn’t bother with the electric step on our new van because it got jammed out on our last van and there didn’t seem to be a manual winder to bring it in. Luckily we hit it with a hammer and eventually it went back in but we were reluctant to use it after that. We now just have step that lifts in and out but I really preferred the electric step if only it had a manual backup! Even my mother’s electric chairlift has a manual winder so I wouldn’t have thought that it would be a problem. Thanks for sharing a useful video.

How about spraying a thick coat of waxoyl around the fixings and just give it a top up every couple of years, waxoyl or dinatrol tends to go on thin and set rather than the thick underseal.

Sounds like a plan!

Great video! 3:23 There's still a gap to the spray here. I had the same issue as you, the step getting dirt and grit. I ended up with a different solution: I put decent gaffer tape on top of the step, as the top cover is not waterproof. I then drilled some drain holes in the bottom cover of the step too, so water trapped in there could drain. Then I bought a lump of 10mm rubber and shaped it to isolate the front of the step from the spray entirely. So now that bit of rubber gets all of the dirt and water, and the step hides behind it, and has been well protected. But I may still fit flaps, to stop the side of the van getting dirty, and help even more!

Thanks that was really helpful and honest. I have been considering front flaps to keep the mud off the sides of the Motorhome 😃 Trev

No worries (if I’m honest I did film all of these shorts in one day to save for when we hadn’t got a video 😊) normally I wouldn’t have put something like this up but I suppose it’s going to help someone so maybe it was a good idea after all.

I'll be tackling this job too - again to protect the step. Any chance of a link to the mudflaps or suggestion of best place to buy etc so I end up with the right ones ? Thanks.

Also see my post about adding a 2nd step shield, and adding drain holes. I have no idea why Thule don't make a suitable quality item, but it can be improved at little cost.

@@RickandHeather People via eBay sell rubber sheets of any size and thickness, it's very handy to make stuff with. I used some 12mm sheet to extend the door stops of my PVC to prevent the windows on the back doors, meeting the bodywork before the door stops. It has all types of uses, even for DIY weather shields, and cuts and drills quite nicely!

We have found with our motorhome the biggest pain when its wet is spray flying up onto the mirrors and side windows . Out of interest did fitting front mudflaps make any difference to crud and spray flying up to the mirrors and front side windows? Am very interested in peoples experience.

Is it possible to put a small drain hole just behind the flap

I think it’s more mud etc than water I’m bothered at, I’m quite happy to clean it more often anyway so it will be ok....

Rick, the Fiat ones seem to be a higher quality and moulded better, watch Bob Earnshaw and you will see what I mean. Might be worth the extra cost.
