Fitting radiators into a system that was drained down before I even started the job, following on from another plumber….. was there any issues?
The radiators on the system were removed before i got to the job by the previous plumber so i didnt know what had and hadnt been done.
I show you how to hang the radiators and see if there is a problem when we fill it up!

Been plumbing for 40 years now, got a rems press fit machine about a couple of years ago as I went on a job where there was no heat allowed. Also use plastic, tectite etc. it was probably one of the best things I did. It made the work go so much faster and looks great, fittings cost more than end feed but the time saving is well worth it. This doesn’t mean soldering, or push fit, or any of the other systems out there are finished,there are times when the machine can’t get into some areas, but it just takes a little more planning. Have a go, and you’ll never look back.

Thanks for the video mate. I haven't explored press fit because I don't think I'd use it enough in a domestic setting. For those rare situations where you cannot solder there's always copper Tectite pushfit fittings which look at bulbous as press fit. In a commercial setting where hot works are prohibited, Press would be a Godsend. Anyways have a good week see you on Sunday.

The kitchen rad in our kitchen had 15mm pipes dropping down the wall from the ceiling in plastic clips. We've bought a vertical rad to replace it with the thought of having the rad pipes dropping down into the valves at the top of it to look neater but after watching this, I've realised I wouldn't have a bleed port at the top if I did that so not sure what the best thing to do is now 😬
@liam6200

I'm thinking now if I could drop the pipes down the wall behind the rad into valves at the bottom. Would only see a little bit of the pipes at the top of the rad going into the ceiling which I don't mind. I understand I can't hide them completely.

Hi Mark. Surely you can’t really overdose a system with inhibitor. My worry would be the complete opposite that if you don’t put enough inhibitor in the there wouldn’t be enough to protect the overall system. As a rule of thumb I add a minimum of one 500ml unit per 10 panels (not radiators) and when there are 18 or more panels or there is unusually large pipework which you may find in larger older properties I’ll add an additional unit over and above to per 10 panel rule just to make sure there is enough inhibitor in the system to make sure a system is properly protected. Appreciate your thoughts on this. Stay safe
@MJTiffPlumbing
@MJTiffPlumbing Жыл бұрын
That’s right to add 500ml to 10 panels… as that’s what is meant by 10 radiators…. Overdosing is a big thing and people really need to take note of instructions as they are there for a reason….. Inhibitor can be very bad and cause a lot of issues if overdosed There is even talk of not using inhibitor like they do in the rest of Europe….. some brands don’t want it in there boilers as it can be bad

Hi Mark Is there any need to use paste on an olive, obviously I'm not a plumber but was forced to do gas for dual fuel meter installations and using paste with an olive was almost a sackable offence, by the way bad idea for sparks to be trained to do gas, gas fitters should do gas and sparks should stick to electrics.

I always use paste on compression…… why would you not??
@gracebateman777
@gracebateman777 4 ай бұрын
It's one of those things people argue about online with compression fittings. Allegegedly even manufacturers say not necessary to use jointing compound, but lots of plumbers still do use some for good measure, they always have, always will and swear it helps. If using paste as an extra precaution you certainty don't need much.

Whoever fitted the towel rail did it wrong,the fittings are too far across,stops the hanging of towels

I'm replacing 5 radiators because they're old and starting to rust, I'm going to reposition a couple of them and replace a couple of single panel radiators. I'll completely drain the system and be using polypipe under the floor with copper tails coming up to the rads I assume there are no regulations preventing this. Can I drain the system down from the bathroom radiator into the toilet bowl? I'm in a second floor flat 🙄

Yep all will be ok, just make sure it doesn’t leak downstairs

@@MJTiffPlumbing thanks for that, your advice is always appreciated, BTW those tile bits from eBay are every bit as efficient as the Bosch ones I've used in the past 👍🏼

I’d say press fit is a must if your working on commercial, retail etc, but the cost of the fittings, initial purchase of the gun and on going calibration, not worth it for a domestic plumber

If I had to cheat a system for leaks that I didn't install I would be inclined to use an air pressure test we have a compressor for testing in new builds where there might be no water on site we fit a couple of pressure gauges on and can check them regularly. Most of our work must be tested to 6Bar or in Imperial 90Lbs /sq inch . We have been using press copper and S/S fittings for almost 10 years and now problems with them. Also press fitting on multi layer pipes for maby 20 years on sizes up to 60mm a lot of our work no hot work allowed especially in listed buildings not even an angle grinder. Should have said I am in plumbing for 56 years and getting ready to retire in my plumbing life I have come a long way from wiped joints on lead to modern plastic pipes and fitting not sorry to see the end of cast iron soil stacks except in underground car parks.

I always thought you couldn’t overdose (unless you put about 10 + bottles in) for the cost shove the whole bottle in , will allow for future topping up, venting rads etc. cheap scate lol

Nope…. That comments shows why so many system ARE overdosed and causing issues😉

lol, mines well overdosed . I’m sure you could run it on pure inhibitor without issues , cost about a grand to fill the system tho lol
