FITTING SEUTHE SMOKE GENERATORS IN UK DCC LOCOMOTIVES

7 жыл бұрынDCC LOKSOUND V3.5 LOKSOUND DECODERS AND STANDARD BACHMANN NON SOUND DECODERS FOR STEAM LOCO,S I USE THE FORWARD LIGHT FUNCTION WHICH IS NORMALLY THE BLUE AND WHITE WIRES .FORWARD LIGHTS ARE CV 113 SET TO VALUE 15 . PLEASE NOTE LOKSOUND V4 DECODERS ARE DIFFERENT ,I said I used 2 brown wires and the blue wire in 1 example one brown connected to forward light function and the other brown to the reverse light function the blue is the positive.This is for smoke operation in both directions,CHEERS.

Absolutely FANTASTIC! Oh wow... this was 4 years ago and still very informative! I have been looking for a how to for converting a DC Steamer to DCC for sometime. And finally a how to! PLUS SMOKE install for Seuthe! Great Video!😁👍

Excellent "how to". Tony. I have done just about everything to do with DCC setup and installation apart from installing a Seuthe. Will definitely have a go now with my Coronation Scott...Simon

These might be the best smoke units yet for any HO/OO engines. Perfectly thick realistic smoke, way more believable than others I’ve seen where they’re quite underwhelming compared to these.

Very useful Tony , had a couple of these fitted ,but seemed to have packed in after a few months , so maybe I can investigate from this video ...or go back to buying a packet of woodbines LOL ..Dave

Thanks Dave and yes I have known them to pack up but I empty them when storing away or syringe out any excess, its safer than guessing if you have burn,t off what you think is left in the smoke unit, cheers Tony.

That was excellent Tony, thanks for putting that up, that really helped. Just one thing, how do you actually fix the smoke generator to the chassis? It looked like it was just pressed into some blue tac or something similar but couldn't quite make it out. The Seuthe generator is on it's way and should be with me Thursday with a bit of luck! ;-) Thanks for all the help the other day mate - much appreciated. ...........Graham

No worries Graham and I mount the unit using a little blue or black tac just to secure them, then I find the chimney stack or hole keeps them in line and steady, the heat shrink they are covered in makes them a neat fit into the chimney body, cheers Tony.

Definitely brings a loco to life, but how do you stop the smoke generator when your finished with it?

They switch on and off by using the train controller like the train lights you can have them on or off by pressing the controller function switches.

Im waiting for mine I am wondering if you took the plastic off the copper ring does the oil make the copper ring get hot? That heater would be worth a lot of money if it heated coffee or liquids Seeing its a 3volt 150 celsius heater

Tony, I have my smoke units connected to the lighting circuit on the decoder and they smoke well when stationary but do not smoke well when moving under load. I assume this is because the power is being drained by the motor. Have you experienced this and do you have any remedies? Thank you, Keith

Only just seen this question can only suggest using dedicated auxiliary power supply from chip on loksounds which I use it would be blue positive and purple or green negative .

Normal dc will work them the idea is they are a small tube with a heating element inside, adding smoke fluid and then applying a voltage heats up the fluid and allows the smoke to appear cheers Tony

I assume that the "puffs" are not synchronised with the speed of the engine? I assume that you either have the generator on (at a steady puff) or off? Is that correct?

The simple way is to use the blue wire (positive) and the purple or green wire (neg) these are auxiliary wires for such things as extra lights or smoke gens, depending on what type of decoder you use you can look up the info and assign the smoke unit to one of your controller function buttons thus the smoke gen will work as on or off in any direction

@@sheba31 Thanks Tony for your thoughts. I've now overcome the issue by joining the decoder's white and yellow wire together and connecting them to the yellow wire of the smoke unit and then the blue wire from the decoder to the brown wire of the smoke unit and it works fine.

THIS WILL WORK WITH A DC LOCO OR ANY DCC LOCO WITH A DECODER CHIP INCLUDING A SOUND CHIP ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT PERSONALLY USED A TTS CHIP, THANKS.

Thy were originally used on dc locos I think so to test connect seuthe unit to your track and turn transformer on to see results ,make sure you have smoke fluid in unit hope that helps thanks

@@mattseymour8637 yes. all it is, is just a small element that is heated up to create a smoke effect with the aid of smoke fluid. However, with DC locomotives, the smoke unit will instantly switch on once the loco is on powered track and won't turn off until the loco is either removed from the layout or the track it is on is isolated/switch off.
