Looking for a first lens for your new or secondhand Nikon FX camera? Don't have a lot of money $$$? Just a cheap SOB like me?
DX glass just not quite good enough? Other reasons?
Look no further than a secondhand AF Nikkor 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 WITH macro!!! Forgot to mention the Macro capability of this lens just because I don't shoot that way, but it's amaze balls.

This lens is awesome, and my 24-70mm AFS G does not beat it. The newer lenses are good in many ways but they don't have the same organic atmosphere. B&W images taken it this lens are superb

I sold mine, was not happy with it. Was only sharp at 85 everuthing els was pretty soft. Bought the 28-105 macro and this lens is sharp all over the focal range but it cant beat a prime.

My copy performed pretty well at 28mm which is where It spent most of its time. But I'm no pixel peeping expert, also age and the storage environment can take its toll on old glass.

Damn it! I wish I had watched this video 10 hours ago. I just bought a D7000 today. I would have preferred a full frame camera. Should have done more homework.

There are some good DX lenses out there. The D7000 I've heard is a solid body, should see you through for ages. I believe this lens will work on it as well.

@Snooty Fox Doing really well. I picked up a "bellows", reverse mount lens ring, and a ring mount flash. I can fill the frame with one small letter on a penny.

don't worry, it will work fine with DX, i have an D7200 and it works fine.

This lens should work fine on your D7000. For anyone looking for a DX camera, I highly recommend the D500, it's one of the best cropped sensor DSLRs and it's not too expensive

It'll mount to every DSLR or SLR that Nikon made. It'll work on everyone of them that have a screw drive for the focusing. The only downside and it's not really a downside of using this lens on a crop body is you lose the benefit of the wide angle, but you do gain some reach and compression at the long end.

Sorry, I have no reason to buy a 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 Nikkor auto focus zoom lens because I have the 28-70mm f/2.8D AF Nikkor. On the other hand, I do like the 85mm maximum focal length, and I do like the low price of the lens in this video. However, I do not like zooms with variable apertures.

It'll do fine. I can't remember if it had a hard stop at infinity or not.

That's what I'm looking for. I've seen some very good (and expensive) wide lenses that perform perfectly well in anything other than astrophotography but, have issues resolving stars as well as they might. This is not the same as star-trails, the stars look as though they have sprouted wings.

It's not very heavy. It's hard plastic and glass.

Thanks for the question. I use a BlackRapid "sport". I'm happy enough with it that I have no plans on replacing it. I only run into issues when I'm working on the ground and have to get up, it slips off my shoulder then.

It's meant for 35mm film cameras but will mount to every SLR Nikon made/makes. If the D300 is DX you'll lose the edges of the glass to the crop factor so it wouldn't be ideal but it would work fine.

For wide I use Tamrons 15-30 f/2.8 I don't script anything other than maybe some notes if I need to keep stuff in order. Other than that, this is me being me.

Will this lens fit the Nikon d50

It will fit fine. The lens is meant for 35mm so you'll have to factor the crop into the focal length. It looks like the D50 has an onboard focus motor so autofocus should work as well as the ai/s functions. Keep in mind that it will be slow and noisy compared to modern glass, but you're using a D50 so I don't think you'll mind.
