My second proper video for the channel.
The #Commodore Plus/4 was the poor cousin of the micro computers in the 1980s, overshadowed by the Commodore 64. But that doesnt mean it didnt have some cracking games. In this video I share with you my pick of the five best games for the Plus/4.

Commodore +4 was my first ever computer, and it's a memory of too many regrets to count. After owning it for a couple of months, I realized I should have gotten the (more expensive) C64 instead. So when I eventually had saved up enough money, I bought a C64 instead, and every single game was 10 times better than anything I've ever played on the +4. Still, I had fun with the +4, especially typing in those codes for mini games you could find in game magazines such as C&VG at the time. Thanks for a great video.

Excellent top 5, I've had so much fun playing those as a child. Icicle works, treasure island and fire ant came boxed with mine and were excellent games. A few other games I enjoyed were p.o.d, tutti frutti, Daley thompson's star events and x argon wars 👍

Awesome video, i grew up with a plus 4 or minus 60 as my c64 owning friends called it, the saboteur was probably my favourite game for it.

My first computer was a C16, donated to us by an uncle, and certainly responsible for my love of video games and the technology around them. Fingers Malone is the one I remember most fondly, but I don’t think I ever got to level 3, even when I tried a few months ago. Tutti Frutti, Punchy, Pole Position, Fire Ant, and Rockman would probably go with that on my top 5, purely based on strength of memory associated with them. I’m gonna have to get VICE working again and revisit!

It was a home computer aimed at the home office market. There were games, but nothing close in quality or quantity to the C64 or actual games consoles... A few gems do stand out though, like Mercenary: Escape from Targ.

My fave must be Novagen's 'Mercenary' by the legendary and now sadly departed Paul Woakes. Came in a big back with colour map and Novella. The game itself was in a dual sided 5.25 floppy (C64 on the flip side) and also had the follow on "Second City" add on. An absolutely amazing absorbing game at the time, with many hours of gameplay and with decent and pretty fast vector wireframe graphics for the time it was unseen on such a system.

my second computer was a C16 after owning a ZX81 for a while , it was amazing , i did not care that i did not own a C64 or a speccy , I had just jumped from black and white with no sound and an awful keyboard to (to me ) a real computer , I loved writing basic programs and even some really shitty text adventures with it. I got a +4 the next year as it was on sale for 79.00 quid , I got it for xmas , I had it well into the early 90s until I sold it on the loot to fund a second hand c64 , i moved to the amiga and then the PC , but I loved my early experiences with home computers

This is fun, a system I don't think I've ever heard of, and the games don't look half bad either :D These top 5 videos on obscure systems could make a nice change to usual top 5/10s and the like.

The machine was a huge flop - sold for a ridiculously high price, aimed at a market that didn't want it. It got some mileage in Eastern Europe as a school computer, as that's how Commodore got rid of the unsold stock.

I played Fingers Malone on my C16 back then. So it's technically no Plus/4 game ;) But it was one of the very few fun games I had. This, Tutti Frutti, Big Mac, Berks III and Space Pilot basically made for 80% of my C16 playtime.

You are right, to be fair most plus/4 Games were C16 games. It's good to hear there were quite a number of people who had a Plus/4 in the day, and enjoyed the games.

@@RetroRespawn The thing that annoys me in reverse is, that I actually had the 64K RAM expansion in the C16, but didn't know I could have played Plus4-only games, too. with this.

I could never refuel on bandits, managed it once or twice so my games were short. I did finish Icicle Works but didn't realise I had until years later because, like you said, there's no ending. I really liked AutoZone, Fire Ant, Matrix, Dizasterblaster, Squirm. I had a game called Xadium that looked great and I really liked the music, but I found the gameplay really hard. I think I got past the 1st level once.

Nice video although you didn't pick any Plus/4 only games apart from maybe Icicle Works (these all run on the C16). Games I had and enjoyed for the system: Saboteur, Mercenary, Bridgehead, Berks 3, Winter Events, Space Pilot, Tom Thumb, Mr Puniverse, Ace, Ace 2, Monty On The Run, Treasure Island. There are more but those spring to mind.

got my plus4 when I was 6, completed all 8 over-mazes of Exorcist when i was about 7 years old. there's something u are missing that makes it easier. Having said that, i completed it in 'hard' mode too which is the way u are playing it.

@@RetroRespawn for what its worth, i didn't want to boast without currenty having the skills. So i went back and tried playing it again, 1st time in 35 years, its harder than i remember: definately something to properly work on to break down how to outwit the ghosts; they have patterns , but also there's effectively a small random element in their pathing, so u can never relax into a set path for each screen. perhaps i will do a vid describing all the techniques. But for what use? i think of such things as spoilers, and would i even get 100 views? yes, i can beat it, but it took me about 20 attempts spread over a week before i rediscovered all the old methods, which i count as a fail. thanks for reminding me of this old classic, its still a good fun game today. maybe i will write a sequel?
