Great Video John, good to see you getting out and about with the new FIVE and thanks for making the video! I absolutely LOVE mine so far! One of the most downplayed features that I think is worth noting though is the fact that Elinchrom Built the Bridge into the FIVE, meaning if you have a bunch of old BRX units, D- Lites or ELB 400/500/Quadra sets you can use them ALL in the EL Studio App even if they don't have Bluetooth. As long as you are using a FIVE (or a ONE) They will all show up in the App!!! It's an awesome thing for those of us that still have a bunch of old heads laying around!

Thanks! It’s a great feature. I was using a mix of heads this weekend and every time I didn’t have a FIVE or a ONE in the mix it was a let down.

if I am correct in my thinking, isn't the flash duration thing called hs or hy-sync, in olden times, where before hss the flash modified its circuitry to deliver the energy differently, so the 'burst' was not done, as in hss, but the energy of the flash was delivered quicker, or prolonged to cover the shutter time, to ensure the shutter caught light the whole time.

Great as always John! Can't wait to get my hands on the Five. Hopefully next Elinchrom will redesign their transmitter Pro to have the same interface as the One, Five and ELC lights, plus have the screen tilted up to make it easier to see your settings at a glance.

sure do love my ONE. The FIVE would be great but I'll continue to pair my ONE with my Quadras. Also amazed that you could get the boat model changed into different outfits during sunset. That's quite a feat.

I am torn between the Elinchroms and Profoto. In a studio, we are using Elinchroms. Used ELB400 for weddings, when I was assisting my wife. But - she works solo nowadays and we replaced Canon speedlite by absolutly unbeatable Profoto A1. So we bought Profoto B10 too. But she barely used that. And I started to be torn on Profoto - on one hand, I really like their click gels and grids. On the other hand, if you are supposed to use a reflector, you put it over your grid, not a grid on the reflector - that's kind of Profoto's misconception. But unless Elinchrom produces something like A1, at least for weddings, we are staying with Profoto A1 and/or A2 .... which is a pity, as ideally, I wish just for a one system. The thing is, though, that I hate Profoto's modifiers (softboxes).

Great video. I thing I wish Elinchrom did was offered an extension head so the strobe can be put on the ground with just the reflector/flash tube thing higher up (like pack/head systems).

Hi Enrique, thanks a lot for reaching out. The ELB500 is maybe more like the ELB400 but the FIVE is definitely more advanced in terms of performance.

@@JohnGress so you we’re not on HSS just the low power of flash was able to freeze subject by having 1/3000 Or whatever your flash will above 1/2000 correct?

By setting the flash power around 3.0 I was able to get a flash duration close to 1/3000 and since I was overpowering the light in the room by 5 stops, the movement was completely frozen with a 1/200 sync speed.

Last comment it looks like this five is really a good light hopefully the modeling light is powerful enough when inserted into Elinchrom 69 Rotalux with reverse mount with fabric hopefully you can see your subject... Again this was a great video ] that a pro photographer ( a every day shooting photographer :) will get all info required. Thank you as always

Ha! Sorry Karl.I switched over from Profoto in 2019 and you get a lot more bang for your buck with Elinchrom.

Rice won’t help dry anything out. The best and cheaper solution is a good shaking, toweling off more shaking and let the device sit under a fan a few hours. Also sticking the device in a bag is going to trap moisture in and not let it evaporate. Besides that the R5 can handle that amount of a splash without issue.
