I have mine since 2016. I love it. It gets beaten around quite a bit. It survived everything I've thrown at it so far. So I can attest to the tough part. I love that it has buttons for everything. You set the camera up once when you get it and after that you don't have to go into the menus ever again. All the settings you'd ever need are there at your fingertips and especially once muscle memory sets in you can use the thing so efficiently

I have a D7100 and I simply love it! D7200 has a bit more buffer for burst shots but apart from that so I've heard that are the same. I can't be more happy so see this kind of reviews with people that adore their camera's. The best camera is the one that you already have and your best tool is actually your eye.

I own 2 D7200 refurbished bodies. 1 is for back-up which I always take on the job. You are right about it being a 'beast' since I am a little tough on my equipment. For the past 5 years I have been shooting residential & commercial architectural photography with this camera (Tokina 11-16mm lens) with very satisfied customers. The 2 card slots really come in handy and I always use the 2 custom program settings (U1 & U2) which are a true bonus for the camera. Add back button focus and this is a truly great camera.

On behalf of all the enthusiastic novices out there looking for a first camera or a step up (in my case) from an entry level camera, I would like to say a huge thank you for providing an alternative to spending well North of 1K on the shiniest newest camera that everyone else on you tube is plugging. If I could make a request it would be for a guide on how to buy lenses, what to look for, how to ensure that they are mechanically compatible etc!!! If you ever get time lol. Great review Henry. I have had my D7200 since around 2016. I use it to shoot short films, and people often say it's not a good camera for film, I disagree, the sensor is great. People always comment on the quality of the footage, I combine it with an Atomos Ninja Blade sometimes, but I really love this camera. I'm going to shoot a feature film on it next. The guy who advised me to buy it, shot a feature film on the D7100 and it looks mint. I hope people are listening to you because you're bang on the money, this camera is great.

I just seen a Nikon D7200 on Facebook market place for £350. It comes with a battery, charger and camera strap. There’s also a 35mm prime and 17-55mm that I can buy along along side it if I choose. That would be probably take me up to £400? maybe a bit more if I had to guess. Also comes with printed manual and a user book. I have never owned a camera before and don’t know much about cameras. If I did purchase it I’m interested in wildlife and landscape photography so don’t know if this camera would be good for that. Would you say it’s a good deal? Thanks

Bought my D7200 to replace my D90 four years ago. I recently bought a Nikon D4s to go for full frame (had a Nikon F and F3). I still carry the D7200 as a backup to the D4s because I can put a 18-300 Sigma zoom on it and not have to carry another lens for the D4s (which has the 24-70 attached).

Love my Nikon d7200 my only issue with it is the amount of noise it produces used in high iso settings in low light. Apart from that brilliant. Love the fact that most of the controls are fully customisable. The lenses been DX Nikon’s are relatively affordable and the build quality is as you say excellent. Thanks for reminding me how much I appreciate this camera. Great video!

You make some great points. I have just upgraded to a D7100. Two reasons I chose it over the D700: 1 it takes all Nikon lenses so I can use DX lenses and any good quality 2nd hand lens I may want to try. Keeps it all within budget. 2. Picture quality/megapixels. Loving the results after a month of daily use. Didnt want a flip out screen and other gimmicks as I mainly use it in Manual mode anyway.

Thanks Henry. I’m very glad to have found your channel. I bought my D7200 new in mid 2015 and have loved it ever since. It has collected 4 lenses over the years, 3 DX 1 FX, I have thought about upgrading many times - but to what? A 750, 780, 810, 850? A 500 for the focussing and frame rate? How much can I really afford to spend? I decided that I wanted to go to the next level with landscapes so Santa brought me a set of Kase Wolverine Magnetic filters. Brilliant! One day I might get a second camera body but I’ll probably get another lens first. It’s not the camera for everybody but like you it’s fits me and after 5 years of use I know it pretty well. I grew up with manual SLRs, Pentax and Olympus, so I still can’t use an EVF. Not even the new Zs or any of the Sony As. The things I like about it? Image quality, U1 (ISO 100), U2 (fast moving 1/3000), it’s solid, weather sealing, ISO 3200 produces quality images with noise reduction in post( when did I last use a flash??) OVF, auto ISO (set to max 3200), live view focussing, one button zoom to focus point in playback, bracketing, etc etc etc.......... I used to think it was a bit heavy then I bought a Black Rapid strap. Weight gone. So it’s great to see one being used by a pro getting outstanding quality results. Oh, why don’t you use a ML-L3 infrared remote?

Hi Henry, great video as always. I was recently pondering whether to upgrade from my d5200 to the d7200 for all the reasons you just stated, I actually ended up going for the d7500 purely because I also enjoy shooting wildlife and I really wanted the increased buffer that camera gives you and they are also an absolute steal. Totally agrre with everything you said. After starting photography with a D3300 in 2016, I got my D7200 in 2018. I have used it pretty much every day since and not once has it ever let me down. I now mostly photograph birds and use it with a Nikkor 300mm f4 PF lens. I have a x1.4 teleconverter as well if needed. It has a super build-quality and, as you say, is tough as nails - I have a neoprene skin on mine. The image quality of the setup I use is fabulous and none of it weighs very much which is great when you're my age and the back and knees are aching. Also, it having that second card slot has saved me a few times when I've been editing photos and left a card in my computer. The only real downside to the D7200 is that the rear screen isn't articulated which makes it harder to shoot video (the video performance is also excellent on this camera as you know). I like the D7200 so much I may even buy a second one so I can keep a macro lens on one and the 300mm on the other. Needless to say, I would recommend the D7200 (and the Nikkor 300mm f4PF too for that matter) to anyone. If anyone wants to see photos I have them on my YT channel so just go there for a gander.

I would readily purchase a second hand D7200, I have never owned or even used one. I have however owned its predecessor the Nikon D7100, great workhorse, almost 95,000 shutter actuations, 10 years old and his never let me down. Has a few (OK a lot of) scrapes and scratches after being toted around on mountain backpacking trips but coupled with a Tamron 16-300 it is my go to bit of kit. I am very tempted to buy one as I often wonder how much more life there is in my shutter. Great video and great not to be always pushed along the "you need full frame" road.

Every time I take pictures of people or make videos I always bring the a6400 because the face/eye autofocus is perfect and the d7200 doesn’t come close in terms of consistency. I also prefer the a6400when traveling because it is significantly smaller and lighter. In therms of image quality, they’re about the same based on personal pixel peeping but my 7200 has picked up a significant number of hot pixels over the years which are a major issue if I turn in-camera noise reduction off. That’s kind of inevitable with age though. Still I never regretted owning the d7200 and I occasionally use it to this day. Every time I think of selling it to maybe buy myself more modern gear, I just can’t bear to go through with it

As Jon G pointed out, its not just the mirrorless specific technology. There have been numerous sensor improvements in the years since the D7200's release that are quite significant, as just one example. High ISO performance, above all, has greatly improved in just the last 5 years. Faster internal memory, faster processors, FAR superior memory cards. But mirrorless specific improvements are also many. Once you go EVF, it is very hard to go back to OVF. Can you take photographs with the D7200? Yes, can they be great? Yes. But your success rate goes up 10 times at least with an EVF. It is that significant. But it does not end there (for at least Nikon). The Z lenses are vastly superior to everything comparable F before it. Color fringing has all but been eliminated. Focus breathing greatly reduced. Lenses that are tack sharp wide open. Edge to edge sharpness. Weather sealing, 'nuff said. Focus motor noise, eliminated. And so on. Pick these apart all you want, but the totality of what we are seeing from Nikon mirrorless is nothing short of a revolution. "Incremental improvements?" Only if you are not paying attention.

Fully agree with no need for the mirrorless. Just drop one, and see what's left. Cheaper way for manufactures to mass produce, but still very expensive. A way for some manufactures to sell a new lens line only for Mirrorless cameras.

About weather protection I was filming a video in a rain and my mic's left channel broke, bad luck I guess. Now it's giving me very unbalanced sound with mumbling on left and clear on the right. So little advice here, cover the microphone when it's raining. But anyway, absolutely agree on every reason. Bought mine in 2015 and still using it as primary still image camera, but had to buy sony a6300 for video, because live view AF is quite rubbish on D7200.

Hi Henry, a good intuitive video. The d7100 and the d7200 are still a great buy. Brilliant image quality, certainly good enough to A2. To be honest, I still prefer mine to the d850 I borrowed. One thing I’ve noticed a lot with your videos, and others on Utube, is the lack of the lens hood. Having been a commercial photographer for 30+ years, I can honestly say that I’ve never shot without one. That’s from 35mm up to 10x8. Keep snapping!

Yeah, I grew up during the Sixties in Britain, buying and reading "Practical Photography" magazine, and so many other photo guides - and a lens hood was always recommended. For me a camera lens feels naked without one - not to say exposed and vulnerable! Apart from the flare on the lens thing, so I too wonder at that! Maybe it's a generational thing!

I did last year but then realized it didn't have a live histogram.. I think I got that from your channel. Having a D7000 I really wanted that feature in a new body. So I sent it back to wex without having switched it on. You saved me a costly mistake. It's a shame Nikon have probably stopped developing this line. That was the only thing missing for me.

Terrific video, Henry. I did buy a D7200 in 2020 (in February)! I had a D7000 for a few years and loved it, but went mirrorless. Basically, I decided I wanted an ultrawide and getting this and a Sigma 8-16mm was much cheaper than buying a comparable lens for my Fujifilm. Plus I wanted really good DR and there was nothing better without going FF (and even then the D7200 beats most). I love how there is an external control for every function I want. The best thing? In great condition the camera cost me Australian $400 - £220! Thanks again for the video!

A few months ago my D90 gave up after many a year of loyal service. I was out shooting when a sudden, very heavy downfall started and I think it killed my camera. Getting it repaired cost about twice as much as what the body was still worth. Spent many hours thinking and comparing. DSLR vs mirrorless, price points, repair anyway.. But I’ve settled on this one. It seems to have strengths in things I care about most, while its few weaknesses lie in features I could take or leave. Well, I’ve got mine coming in over the next few days, coupled with a Tamron 16-300mm in a deal that’s truly a steal. I couldn’t be more excited! Sentimentally, I’m still going to miss that D90. But I know it’s going to be a huge upgrade, especially with the new lense. No more constant swapping between kit lense and 55-200mm!

I just bought the d7200 with an 18-105 mm kit brand new from a famous store here in my town in Switzerland for 357 Swiss francs (300 pounds!!) I handled a Sony A7. Seemed clunky and not intuitive. Looked lovely. Images were crisp if a little flat colour wise. A lot of hype about Sony and they are fine cameras but really there’s very little between Sony, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, LUMIX, Fuji or Olympus.

I have mine for over 3 years already and like it a lot ,I was thinking to jump on fx but most photographers say lens is more important than the body so I keep it that way ,and just this week I cross a Tokina 11-20 dx pro ,the money I tried to save I put on it ..but the way was half of the price for a like new ..so I can't let it pass , just waiting for the weekend to go some place to try it..still the d7200 producing excellent pictures in this age ,24mp are enough to print large and share on media ,and with the right lenses you be amazed ... I thinking I will keep for another 5 years or so... 🤙Excellent video keep up.. cheers from Florida..

Thanks for putting out this video. I have had my D7200 for a few years now and it's my go-to camera for stills, landscapes, and close-ups. The D7200 also is no slouch when it comes to wildlife photography, although I generally use a D500 (which has a few handy features for that purpose). So many photographers are ditching their DSLRs for Sony mirrorless cameras for a variety of reasons, but I don't have a Sony mirrorless budjet; plus, my Nikon (crop-sensor) cameras have always worked for me.

@@shilp_V5 The Nikon D7200 works well for wildlife photography, and before I purchased the D500 (used, by the way, since I didn't want to pay for a new one), I used my D7200 for both wildlife and landscape shots. One of the features the D500 has that I really love, a feature that the D7200 lacks, is the ability to change the ISO setting without having to go into the menu. The dedicated ISO control on the D500 has really spoiled me, but I have to say that if something happened to my D500, I would probably cry a little 😁 and then use my D7200 for wildlife shots (again) as well as landscape shots.
