This is my second video based on suggestions from my subscribers in my four year anniversary video. This one features five things about the Catholic Church that I appreciate and often find lacking in the Protestant, and especially the Pentecostal and Nondenominational churches.

It is so good of you to say positive things about my church. The thing I love about my Pentecostal brethren is their knowledge and love of the Holy Bible. Many Catholics are far behind in Bible knowledge. I like what St. Jerome said long ago, "Ignorance of scripture is ignorance of Christ. I enjoy your reviews of different bibles.

Hey again, Tim! Catholic here, and I really appreciate this my brother. Thank you for the kind words and respect you always show towards Catholics. I wanted to again recommend a couple wonderful books written by Dr. Brant Pitre: Jesus & the Jewish Roots of Mary, and Jesus & the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist. I know you'll love them! God bless you brother!

Christians loving God and each other is the path to be on. The road with Jesus is not laughing at a hating other denominations. Paul went from sinner to saint. Ecumenical concern for other Christians is simply The correct path. When we as Christians say it is “MY way” or the highway, they should rethink who Jesus was, is and will be. Thank you for this considerate video. Bringing Christ to Christians is important today when we see demographic and actual losses in attendance at our isolated and dividing churches. This was a great and interesting new approach in your You Tube presence.

I hear you Tim! I have always been impressed by the reverence, the public readings of scripture, liturgy and catechisms. Makes most of the churches I have attended to seem very flippant. We really need to learn some things from the Catholic Church.

I have often wished we Pentecostals had a Catechism. It would be a great tool to teach the doctrine. I also like the Catholics process of discernment and Spiritual Direction. My path to being a pastor was not a normal one, so it would have been helpful if I had a program / person to meet with when I expressed my calling when I was a teenager (and I grew up Presbyterian). That is why I am glad you have been having interaction with the young man from your earlier post.

Thank you for this video. Regarding your last point; the high(est) church Catholics often repeat this maxim: Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi-The law (or way) of prayer is the law (or way) of belief. As a Traditional Latin Mass-going Catholic, I've found this to be more true as I've moved into my early 30s, started a family, and taught my children the faith. How we worship reinforces our beliefs, and if what we say we believe is not reflected in our community worship-our kids will catch on and their faith often erodes. Of course how we square the circle on these finer points theologically and aesthetically is a path each of us to take, but still-Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi. Thank you so much for all your content. I am good friends with a UPCI Pentecostal, so obviously there are significant theological differences not only between he and I, but in Assembly of God & him, but having these conversations helps us see the humanity and the people God loves in all of us, hopefully helping us come together in areas we agree. Many blessings!

Thank you for this video! Love all your content. The only thing I would like to respectfully point out is when you said the Catholic Church repeats the Apostle’s Creed weekly. We actually repeat it daily as the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered daily, not just weekly. Keep up the awesome content.

As a Roman Catholic that prefers the Latin mass I thank you for this video. I’ve heard many outlandish things about the Catholic Church from people that know absolutely nothing about Catholicism. You have obviously taken the time to at least look at the church and its teachings with an open mind and an open heart. My personal belief is that Christ is not happy looking down and seeing his flock divided into a thousand denominations. It is refreshing to hear a non Catholic put out video such as this. Hopefully it is a step in the right direction that all our Christian brothers and sisters can at least find some common ground without the bitter back and forth that usually results. Even in your other video, you stated your issues (which I obviously don’t agree with) with respect and without the name calling. Thank you and God bless you. ✝️

Great video Pastor Tim. I’m part of a Baptist Church and agree totally that some (many?) Protestants have adopted too “laid back” an approach to teaching doctrine, church history, the value of creeds and liturgy, etc., all of which the Catholics have retained. They also have a very high Christology, which I admire. Appreciate the spirit in which you did this video. 😊

Great video! Im Lutheran, not Catholic, but we also have a catechism and are a liturgical church and those are two of my favorite things about it. Not only does liturgy aid in memorization, but I feel it also helps us remember and feel connected to the larger church throughout the world and history. When I say the Apostle’s Creed or the Lord’s Prayer I’m not just mouthing words, I’m echoing the words that other believers have said throughout the ages, and I really feel the value of that connection to the capital C Church as it exists “spread out through all time and space and rooted in eternity” as C.S. Lewis said.

Love this video, Tim. My mother’s side is Pentecostal (dad’s is Catholic), and I’ve loved the passion and spirit of the church as it is expressed in Sunday services, funerals, etc. As I’ve grown older and read more, I’ve come to believe there isn’t nearly as much of a difference between Catholicism and Pentecostalism as it appears on the surface. There are the obvious differences, but our views of justification, atonement, and the perseverance of the saints, among others, are more similar than we are to our brothers and sisters in the reformed tradition, for example. I’m reading the Life in the Spirit Study Bible now, and it is surprisingly similar to some commentary in my Catholic Study Bibles.

I am now 66 and those elements still have such meaning to me. In a Post Christian world, we need these foundational statements and catechesis to teach the faith to new believers.

@anickelsworthbiblereviews great video brother Tim thank you for being fair and charitable to us Catholics. I must be honest as a Traditional Catholic (ie one who attends the traditional Latin Mass) I can tell you that not all Catholic Churches, parishes, congregations or masses are reverent. A lot of our churches during the 60s and 70s started to look like post modern are galleries and still do, and a lot of our congregations worship in non Catholic ways (clapping, praise dancing etc.) additionally some of our priests although formally educated have super liberal worldly ideas that are completely non Catholic and contrary to the Bible , the catechism or cannon law. Thank you Tim!! Yes reverence & honor to our Lord. I still lovely watching evangelical & non denominational services to get inspired in a different way loudly with praise. Yes I love how in Catholic church am encouraged & helped to serve others as much as I can with my physical limitations. Yes all priests I've spoken with are highly educated with degrees aside from what they studied in seminary. Recently helped me with knowledge in history of the church & our laws in the US to discuss a concern I have for a loved one and truly helped me with facts & knowledge. Yes your 4th point in our mass in missal is actually old testament journey & new testament where Jesus and apostles advised us with homily or sermon helping us to put into practice in our lives. Yes every mass is journey of life of Jesus Christ from birth to his Resurrection. Our hope. We're joined in our prayers with masses celebrated throughout the world. And the blessing to be closer to Christ not just Him in me but me to Him in the eucharist. Sustains & blesses me as I seek to closer to Him seeking His will. On the beauty of churches; unfortunately years ago when I was able to visit the Vatican had been in the 40 years I had left my Catholic faith, did not have full appreciation for the beauty of all I saw. Years later was able to visit the cathedral in Barcelona and La Sagrada Familia what a work of art, reverence & honor to be able to be in awe. I'm so blessed to return to the faith of my youth. God bless you Tim. Thank you.

I think that if you were to add a sixth, it would be the Lectionary. The use of a lectionary in the Catholic and many mainline denominations is invaluable because it cycles through much of the entire Bible with readings appropriate for the season. Occasionally, I'll usher at my church and it's amazing how people have no problem looking nice when they go to a nice restaurant or something on Saturday night, but can't be bothered to put on a button up shirt Sunday morning. Wednesday nights have always been more casual, but people should act like adults and look nice for Sunday service.

A Catholic Church looks like a church because it is designed for one purpose: the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The buildings are often cruciform because the Church is the Body of Christ. The body of the Church is called the nave, from navis (Latin for boat), because the Church is the barque of St Peter. Our Lord, truly present in the Tabernacle, calms the storm.

I am very close to my aunt, uncle, sister, brother, and sister-in-law, who are all Catholic and I love them dearly. I have read the Catechism and I own a NABRE Catholic Answers Bible - both gifts from my aunt. Let me just say this: they've all been in the church since birth. Catholic doctrine is taught in their churches, not the Scriptures. They really don't understand the Word. My aunt believes that infant baptism saves you - if that was true, what is the point of Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection? My aunt is nearly 70 and has believed that her entire life. My grandma passed away at the end of May, and my aunt told me she would 'pray grandma into Heaven and out of purgatory' - my sister said she'll light a votive candle to guide grandma out of purgatory. The church still teaches indulgences as well in case anyone was wondering. If they had actually been taught the Bible and not just the made up doctrines of men, they would understand that none of these things are in the Bible! They are so indoctrinated that when I explain the pure and simple Gospel to them, they don't believe and reject it. They actually argue with me. So while I appreciate how their churches look, I don't glorify their practices. The Catechism even alters the 10 Commandments to leave out graven images. I guess what I'm saying is, yes the Catholic church believes that Jesus is God, but they are wrong on every other Biblical doctrine, which results in no salvation for it's members. Just one doctrine - infant baptism saves - that nullifies the Cross entirely. My aunt proudly explained to me that every Catjolic church across the globe learns the same verses and teachings every Sunday. So there is no difference in teaching across the globe. That's comforting. Now I know that every Catholic is unsaved in the eyes of the Lord. I'm not trying to gripe, and I know some of your viewers are Catholic, but glorifying things about the Catholic church is like taking 1 step forward and 10 steps back in terms of evangelism.

Considering Catholics don’t worship the same Jesus in the scripture, I don’t appreciate anything about them because everything you talked about doesn’t save you and get you to heaven. What good is all those things if you don’t believe the true gospel of Jesus Christ and you are lost for eternity? Sure they can believe “the gospel”, but when you add on other things to it and say you have to do this or that, pray to Mary and other Saints, recognize a Pope as head of the church, repeat prayers that focus more on Mary than Jesus, pray repetitive prayers, have all kinds of idols in your worship building, incorporate even mystic things into your worship, DISTORTS AND PERVERTS the true gospel. Galatians 1:8 NKJV But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. John 14:6 NKJV Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 1 Timothy 2:5 NKJV For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Exodus 20:4 NKJV "You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; According to the New Testament gospel, forgiveness of sins and positive righteousness are provided by Christ and granted to the believer as a gift. Regardless of the intricacies of official Catholic doctrine, there are far too many Catholics (as well as Protestants, if we are honest about it) who operate under the assumption that, if they are good enough or try hard enough, God will accept them. Ultimately, this belief removes Christ as Savior in favor of the individual attempting to save himself.

1. Reverence includes God's Word as that absolute and final authority in the life of a true Christian, but the RCC does not. Buildings are great, but if the Holy Spirit isn't allowed in and people aren't asking Jesus to be their Lord and Savior after they hear the uncompromised Gospel, then it's just a manmade monstrosity. 2. Benevolence is great if it is done in the name of Jesus and intended to lead a person to hear the Gospel ultimately and choose to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior Jesus. Otherwise, it is just another work to help a person make it through Purgatory. 3. Education is a requirement of every Christian as they are commanded to study the Bible to show themselves approved before God by rightly dividing it. When they do, they discover that the majority of things taught by the RCC are not in the Bible. 4. There is no priestly class in the New Testament, as every Born Again Christian is a member of God's Royal Priesthood, and the Holy Spirit teaches and guides them because He lives within and promises never to leave or forsake them. 5. Catechism in the RCC and church creeds are primarily used to indoctrinate someone into their non-biblical beliefs and traditions. Ultimately, the Born Again Christian has the Holy Spirit and the Bible to lead, teach, and guide them. It is important to know what the Bible says about Christian doctrine and theology so they can understand when they are being taught things that are not in the Bible, such as the RCC teachings of salvation by grace PLUS works, praying the Rosary, the papacy, worship/adoration of Mary and her immaculate conception, perpetual virginity, assumption, being a co-redemptrix and mediatrix, as well as petitioning saints in Heaven for their prayers, apostolic succession, the ordinances of the Church functioning as sacraments, infant baptism, confession of sin to a priest, purgatory, indulgences, or the equal authority of church tradition and Scripture, which the Bible warns about the danger of following those non-apostolic traditions (Mark 7:7-8,13; Col 2:8). Jesus is the all-sufficient Savior (Heb 7:25; Acts 4:12). The Gospel message in the Bible shows that Jesus alone has the divine power to save because it is the supreme authority and the only trustworthy source for eternal truth and all-sufficient for knowing and understanding how to be saved (John 14:6,17:17,18:37; 2 Tim 3:15-17; Rom 1:16; 1 Cor 15:1-4; Eph 2:1-10).
