Thank You for showing the 5 ways to work the yarn up the side. Your explanation was good and gave me choices in making a beautiful garment. May I ask if you can make a video and explain how to Knit and Purl the way you do. The way I do it is so slow and I really would love to learn how from you because you explain things so good. I am a big fan & follower & appreciate your videos

Thank you so much, Dana :-) You are right - it's better to know five ways to be able to choose the best option depending on the project. As for knitting and purling, I've already made two tutorials about Continental knitting (the knitting style I use). The first one explains how to cast on stitches, hold the yarn and adjust the tension - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aJagqNp137jPnHU.html. The second one is about knitting, purling and binding off - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hcxne6h4tJvPaYU.html. Happy knitting!

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Can you use these methods of carrying yarn when you are knitting in the round?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 6 жыл бұрын
The first method works for carrying the yarn up when you knit one or two-row stripes in the round. As to the other ways, it's better to swatch first.

I googled "How to carry multiple yarns up when knitting" - this was the first result and it is EXACTLY what I needed! Methods #3 and #5 look the best for the project I'm planning and I'll test them both. (Also- is this European knitting style? I carry my yarn in the right hand but I'm fascinated by the style you're using)

Hi Erica. I'm glad that this tutorial helped you find a way to carry yarn up the side of the work :-) The knitting style I use is called Continental knitting. If you'd like to give it a try, here's a playlist that should help - kzfaq.info/sun/PLH_ldSndCil5p94VK60gIeKKLItaXAkU4 Happy knitting :-)

Thank you, Trudy :-) I didn't get a chance to make a pattern for that sweater yet. Right now I'm making a pattern for the sweater I wear in this video - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z6mqqsl4v9incZc.html The grey sweater will be next. I'll make a short video about the pattern when it's ready. Stay tuned :-)

Thank you very much for the tutorial, I am using black, light and dark gray with way 3. However, the side does not look great as there is too much contrast. Since this is a shawl, I need a way to hide the side. Do you have a suggestion?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday Жыл бұрын
Hello Sibel. You could hide the edge inside an applied i-cord once the shawl is finished. Here's a tutorial that explains how it works - www.10rowsaday.com/icord-edging Happy knitting :-)

I’m making a rainbow afghan with 6 colors made of 6 rows each. The size will be 50” x 60” when finished. Will using technique 5 work for that many yarns?
@10rowsaday
@10rowsaday 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry. If you choose to carry up five strands of yarn, it will look cumbersome no matter which of the methods you choose. In this case, I would rather cut the yarn each time I change the colour and use this technique - www.10rowsaday.com/weave-in - to weave in the tails as I knit. Good luck :-)
