You are fortunate to have 2 people working on this. My wife is disabled, so I'm a one man show. Having done it many times, my goal is a 15 minute set-up. You memorize the routine, and it isn't hard. Nice video, enjoyed it very much.

Before you even back your rig into the site, it's good practice to plug your surge protector into power first. That way if there's a problem you can easily change sites if possible.

ALWAYS ALWAYS CHOCK BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR HITCH ! I say this from experience. I got complacent and detached my hitch when the trailer was on a slight downhill. It resulted in the trailer moving forward and thankfully the tongue came to rest on the side of the weight distribution hitch and stopped without causing any damage or injuries. The first thing I do is install my x-chocks and rubber chocks even on level ground before I begin to unhitch. Lesson learned.

I’ll echo the great informative content especially for newbie RVers! Never thought to prime the water hose! Great tip! My wife has a checklist for everything just so we don’t forget anything. About wheel chocks, I learned the importance last summer. I backed up our GD Imagine TT into our seasonal spot alongside our 10’ x 30’ wooden deck. I had a heck of a time getting it close to the deck but did finally after a couple of hours! When I went to put down our manual stabilizing jacks between the the deck & the trailer, I had to go under the trailer. My nephew turned the wrench from 6 o’clock to noon & I turned from noon to 6 o’clock. And yes I forgot the chocks! After a couple of turns, the trailer rolled backwards. Pinning me under the hitch I beam. Resting on my right arm across my chest. I thought I was going to be crushed! Luckily there was a lot of campers around who came to my rescue. The longest 2 minutes of my life! I ended up with 5 stitches on my wrist where the I beam pressed my metal watch into my wrist. I went to the hospital as a trauma alert & walked out 5 hours later after all the testing to make sure my heart & internal organs were ok. And a big lecture from the ER doctor, Lol I’ve learned my lesson for sure & realized how very lucky I was! Thanks again for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing more of your videos!

Hey! Great video! Just a quick tip, I always set my parking brake, especially when towing the rv because eventually it will eat up your gears. All the weight is sitting on the gears when the truck rocks into place. So if you set your parking brake while in drive and foot on the brake and then shift into park, the weight of the truck/trailer will be on the parking brake and not your gears! Happy camping!
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I had never heard of that. I always use the parking brake when hooked up and stopped, but I've never engaged it while in drive. I normally put it in park and then stomp the parking brake down with my left foot before coming off the brake pedal. It may do the same thing?
@patricksmith2
@patricksmith2 5 жыл бұрын
Yup! Same thing as long as the parking brake is engaged before taking foot off of the brake. I was just commenting because you mentioned that you kept trying to get the trailer in place and it was rocking after in park. Always a good idea to put the weight on the parking brake and in turn the truck will hold its place while unhooking. Happy Camping! @@Five2Go

Parking brake is the way to go. Note- it's not "sitting on the gears" on an automatic. Its resting on a pin in the transmission.

Cool hose priming tip! We just went from a Travel Trailer to a 5th wheel but still got a good tip from your setup. Can I suggest placing your wood blocks long ways front to back at the tongue jack. This will provide better stabilization. In the event your trailer had any front to back motion the blocks could easily tip forward or back and the jack would land on the ground when you have the blocks side to side like in the video. Enjoy your time on the road with your family!
@Five2Go
@Five2Go 5 жыл бұрын
We actually picked up some larger square blocks recently and have been using those. I've thought about those other blocks going front to back too, but with the chunky rubber blocks and the x-chocks, there's zero chance of this thing moving forward. Great tip though, thank you!

Suggest you wash the water connection with 20-1 Clorox to clean the connection before hooking up the water. I watched someone wash their sewer hose on a water tap a few sites from where you are parked. Even though there is no sewer there, they dumped their gray water in the trees. The first time I camped there was in the A section the week after the campground was opened as Thousand Trails. It was a vision then and all mud!. Been back hundreds of times.

I mentioned earlier that I bought the Andersen levelers and liked them, but I ended up returning them cause they were slicker than owl-sh** on concrete and asphalt and would slide out from under the tire as you tried to get up on them. So I will use 1-1/2”, 1”, 3/4”, and 1/2” boards long enough to fit under both wheels, with enough capacity (lift) to use under one wheel to raise the other wheel enough to change a flat. But the LevelMatePRO is a keeper since it tells you exactly how much you need under a side for it to be level, and makes it super easy to level front-to-rear and remembers your hitch height when you are ready to leave.

A very nice and informative video I enjoyed watching it... one thing I would like to clarify is a weight distribution hitch does not transfer the weight to the back of your trailer, that's actually a bad thing, a weight distribution actually applies Leverage to push more of the weight of the trailer onto the front wheels of your truck to distribute the weight more evenly across both axles of your truck.

We love watching other people set up in campgrounds! 😋 Every once in a while you'll catch something dangerous, or something gross like someone doing sewer hose stuff without gloves, but we also see some good ideas every once in a while. We're always learning!

Five2Go I don’t have a camper (yet ?). Just wondering why does the black water drain need that flexible stand lifting it off the ground 6” or so vs. just laying on the ground?

When attempting to remove stubborn weight distribution hitch bars, it helps to elevate the tongue jack. This takes makes it way easier to pull the stubborn bar out. No real need for the hook lever. Also, storing the weight distribution bars in the compartments instead of under the rig, helps prevent formation of rust on the bars. Keep up the good work!
