I'd sooner vote for that dead crab, in that Monty Python sketch, than against Democracy. No way I'd let the wannabe dictator back in the White House. When he last had that office, it was like every other week, he'd do something that would be so bad, he'd stress everybody (who wasn't worshipping him) out. He spent almost all of his time, just campaigning and showboating about, if he wasn't golfing. Every issue, he'd just look like somebody who is trying hard to act like he knows something, but gives out this generic look that tells anybody observant that everything is going over his head. Then he basically does the equivalent of a less than 5th grader approach to an issue, and just brute forces anything to look "tough" and hammers it through. No thinking, no thought to domestic, or international repercussions. And when things inevitably go to heck, after the find out phase of said decisions, he'd just walk off to the loud sound of a helicopter saying, "I take no responsibility." Every darn time. This is all in Recorded footage, anyone with just a little time can pull up and watch again. He constantly takes credit for what other people did, and every misstep or bad decision he makes, he sudden acts like he had nothing to do with it. If any horrible virus, arrives, instead of taking the appropriate steps to do anything about it; his first inclination is to see the existence of it, in the first place, as something that would seem like HIS failure. So what does he do? What is his first inclination? To deny its existence. Mr. Perfect would rather try to use his platform, and any media on his side, to simply Sweep it under the rug, while it goes through the country. He just wants to say, "While I'm president, all viruses don't happen." Same for any other catastrophe. And let's talk about catastrophes. That man was the first President where any federal Help for any state a catastrophe happens to, has to be conditional. If you aren't a state that has a government completely loyal to him, he will not help. A main tenant, written in the resolution of the freakin Declaration of Independence (A government installed for the purpose of all citizens' safety and protection, and happiness) completely ignored. Again, actual easy to find recorded footage of him doing just that. No other president, regardless of party, acted that way. Because they better understood what those documents meant.

Democracy balances on the tight rope of miniscule margins - votes matter and the people made the decision - there are so many points in UK history where the outcome was a small margin - but unless you accept the outcome of a democratic referendum with preagreed rules you undermine democracy itself - which at the end of the day is a way of living by preagreed rules which then looks for the idea that gets the most backing. I voted remain, and I lost and I have to accept more people wanted a different idea to me and that must stand

Australia currently has a labour government after many years of the conservatives being in power. The conservatives did what conservatives do. Climate denial, tax breaks for the rich, pork barrelling, economic mismanagement, treating the poor and vulnerable as economic liabilities rather than human beings, funding private schools to the tune of millions whilst under funding public schools, under funding hospitals, etc. I wish I could say that Labour were turning things around. Yeah, being Scandinavian I laughed, when Trump said, he wanted more immigrant from Norway and none from s-hole countries. To us, the US is a s-hole country, why would we give up everything, we have, to live in a country of racism, hate and violence and be eternally terrified, that we get sick or shot or whatever and bankrupted by hospital bills? To mention but the headlines. Extremely few ppl from here goes to live in the US, and its usually due to special studies or needed for work. Imo, only desperate ppl actually want to live in the US, theyre the only 1s left, who actually see a better life there. And they usually dont know, what the US has turned into over the decades.

I think there is a kneejerk repulsion on the part of MAGA to anything "foreign". We know those people will freak out because the "libs stole England!" They don't have a clue what Liberal means in the context of British politics. They're just angry about anything with the dreaded L word adjacent to it. Smart and sensible Americans should take cheer from this Labour victory, however.

I am a Canadian Anglo-saxon male. It has always been in our DNA when voting, to select the party that is best for the greater good; even though that party may not be best for me personally. It is a principle that must be abided by in a sane democracy. Somehow that principle has evaded many of our American cousins.

In the U.K., you are very fortunate that you're not subjected of being bombarded with political ads 12-18 months before an election, and it seems within the past 8 years, American citizens haven't had a reprieve from politics. Which is part of the reason for the toxicity. Every aspect of our lives is being politicized and weaponized against its own citizens. Imagine, living in a country where the wealthy have convinced half the country, that it is wrong for the government to work on their behalf? It's insane! As for government/corporate corruption, that's pretty much any day that ends in "Y" in this country. Hopefully, we're able to right this ship.

Being Scandinavian I still a lot of problems in the UK left over from the strict class division times/imperial times. But I understand, that there is a push to get Labour to change the election system to proportional representation, that the vast majority of Labour MPs are actually in favor, but they need a proper public mandate to do it. Hopefully our British friends can mount up enough public support from outside the Labour, that Labour will make it a manifesto promise for the next election. (In the UK, to make such radical changes they need either a referendum (which until the last few years they almost never did), or the government needs a mandate by being elected with it as part of their election manifesto).
