Hi Donovan, Loving your videos. Your subscriber numbers will substantially grow if you continue putting out helpful videos like these. It’s just a matter of time. Can I suggest you do a video I’ve never seen a KZfaqr attempt? Re-edit an old video from say 20-30 years ago. I have old home videos of my adult kids when they were babies as well as my late dad. The quality of the footage is terrible, as most were back then. That means they can’t be edited perfectly like you can with a lot of footage shot today. The challenge is to get it as good as possible, and save these memories for future generations. So many people have old family movies. There is an opportunity for people to remaster these. More overly, the lessons that could be learned from remastering old videos would be invaluable for editing any video. I look forward to viewing more of your videos from here in Australia.

Thank yous I much! I really appreciate it! That is a really interesting idea! The funny thing is, I've actually kind of done that. I recently bought a Synology NAS drive for backup and as a Plex server. As a result, I converted our old DVDs and BluRays to digital. Specifically for Avatar: The Last Airbender, I used resolve to upscale and slightly sharpen it. It's worked ok, but I'd need something like Topaz Labs AI upscale to do much more. I think Linus Tech Tips recently made a video about this and the result was mixed. You might consider checking that out. Again I really appreciate the suggestion though!

You could also use printer lights. You could also use your vector scope. Select the high(low mid high)and adjust the blue out with the gain wheel.

Q: Is there a tip for correcting a longer clip, where WB changes during the clip? If I cut it up and make individual adjustments, there is a noticable "flash" transistion when WB changes and there isn't a natural cut to hide it with? (Something that happens with outdoors footage on overcast windy days when shooting with fixed WB. Is this a noob Resolve question and I'm simply missing the obvious solution, or is it all hard work adjusting individual parts of the footage when needed as you show?)
@donovankean
@donovankean Жыл бұрын
That's a great question! First and foremost I would use manual white balance for all my work. However, you can duplicate the clips in your time line and fade between them with a simple crossfade. It's not perfect, but might be better than how it looks originally.
@Tore_Lund
@Tore_Lund Жыл бұрын
@@donovankean Ah yes thanks, a crossfade of a duplicate clip on top would obscure the flashing. Very clever suggestion.

with the qualifier, you sometimes run into trouble with flickering results after adjusting, because selected areaas can change sometimes dramatically.. i saw a tutorial, where the curves where used for this.. so maybe the curve brightness vs hue would do the job too? I think you get smoother resultes without flickering this way, if this is your problem as it was for me.

Constructive criticism: Too much talking for a simple task. Also, you went about the correction in the wrong way. You don't want to start by changing the temperature of the shot. The first step should be to align the color channels using the parade scope so that all channels are equal in height. Plus you don't need to qualify the dress to make it white. Using the luma vs sat curve to de-saturate that luma range would have been more efficient in this case.

Thanks for the feedback! Some of my viewers like the slower and more explained videos, so that's why I do them. Also for something like this my workflow seemed to be fine, but next time I'll try your method for sure!

I had a tough time getting an accurate white balance using slog just being so flat. I've been using a cheap monitor with basic de-log and it's been a big help but I'm always having to retweak it
@donovankean
@donovankean 9 ай бұрын
Log can be difficult for sure. Make sure you do a color space transform or use a conversion lut before doing your WB and Primaries. The number one thing I tell people to upgrade when they want to get serious about color is their monitor! I'd recommend getting something like an Asus Pro art

Why not just use the auto WB brush in the primary wheels and just click on the white dress? It always works great for me and is quicker

@@donovankean it sometimes needs to be slightly adjusted on the vector scope here and there but it’s pretty efficient 💯

Lots of my viewers like the slower step by step instructions. Not to mention that for beginners Resolve can be really confusing if you push the wrong button or change a setting without realizing it. But jokes on you your comment just ranks my video higher 👌😉
