Good job mate. I'm a painter and that was spot on. Could definitely tell the ceiling wasn't properly sealed before and sealing before applying any jointing compound is the way to do it so the compound sticks.....Subscribed 👌
@myopicthunder2 жыл бұрын
I've already painted a big chipped section with sealer and top coat but didnt apply any jointing compound so can still see the lines of varying paint thickness, can I just sand the top coat a bit then apply jointing compound or should I apply sealer again?

Thanks very much mate - I need to do this as a neighbour above me flooded their bath about a year ago and caused a bit of bubbling and flaking to my ceiling and refused to pay for the repairs. This looks like the best and most economic situation - thanks again. I'm a new subscriber and will recommend your videos to friends - some of whom have just moved to new homes.

I love your videos! I am a single woman with an older home (1958). You have really helped me to learn so much about plastering cracks. My walls are plaster and I have ceiling coves. I’ve got lots of cracks to fill as well as peeling paint in my laundry room.

Great video. A possible extra tip so this won’t happen again would be to paint the ceiling after all of the repair work with an external paint. This way the steam won’t penetrate and flake the paint so easily in the future and you can wipe the ceiling down easier. It will take longer to dry using an external paint in the house but in wet areas and may not look as good bc it has a sheen to it but will give the ceiling good protection.

Glad I found this video today. A friend has this exact problem in his bathroom that was only re modelled 2 years ago. A big section above the shower is peeling badly. I thought it was due to dodgy paint work but I guess it was the lack of ventilation and the kids not using exhaust fan in the shower. Thanks again billy boy

I like your straight and honest "day's" work; here in the US of A ... I don't know what we have but have researched it such that what I'm looking for is a binder/glue/sticky stuff. I definately cannot scrape all the paint off the bathroom ceiling and when I paint the ceiling, the ceiling starts to "flake". Probably due to ceiling moisture damage from steam during showers. Anyways.. nice job you're doing.

This stuff is good for putting over wallpaper if you can’t remove it because of damage to you’re walls that just ain’t worth the trouble.it will penetrate and bind the wallpaper down so you don’t get any wrinkles from the underneath paper that’s been sealed

you are a legend love your work how you explain things some dodgy tradesman who dont believe in primer cant be stuffed use some left over ceiling white somebody else has paid for the old peeling paint in the bathroom trick MAX
@dustman963 жыл бұрын
I'd say the most common reason for paint peeling is improper application. Paint needs to be worked into the surface. Most painters just cover the surface. A few extra strokes with the brush or roller can make all difference.

Very nice! My days of doing DIY repairs to ceilings are O-VER, due to neck issues…but this is the solution that would have saved me so much heartache in the past! Hubby and I have a (bad) habit of moving into houses that “just need a little fixin’ “….and peeling ceiling paint seems to plague us….so thanks for the tutorial! BTW…I have used Zissner Peel-Stop on a west facing circa 1926 oak entry door ( soooo much peeling!) which had been brutalized by lousy paint jobs for many years…it’s weird painting basically glue onto a surface…but it did the job - after proper prep, of course!

Save your money by using 1 part wood glue to 3 parts of water. Mix well and add that to your air drying joint compound (don't use hot mud or quickset mud). Skim coat, let dry and paint.
