I have a new Yoga Lenovo with the same problem, but this fix won't work. My Fn key doesn't light up. Any ideas? I just got it new last night. The Fn and Esc key being pressed at the same time fixed it. Thanks to someone in the comment section.

mine doesn't have light so all i do is hold it and press the volume while im holding it and it works

I fixed mine by pressing Fn and Esc at the same time, mine is a dell laptop

For 2 whole years, I have had this issue, and I procrastinated on finding the solution or returning the laptop until today. I stumbled on this video and realized that I have been suffering for 2 whole years without the use of the function keys and the fix was this simple.

ok i tried Fn + Esc together and it still doesnt help. i wanna use the volume keys without constantly having to press the Fn key with it. the Fn +Esc isnt working for me. how do i get my volume keys back to norm?

This sort of worked, my mute button (f1) stopped working randomly one day and instead opened a new help window for no clear reason. Now when I hit fn mute it mutes, but why the spontaneous change?

I have a similar problem. When I press the camera key, the microphone key, or even the airplane mode key, it doesn't show up on my screen if I have disabled it or enabled it as it used to. It just happens, and it's frustrating

It is your laptop, on some laptops there are light, and some other ones theres not. But 100% it's working.

MND I’m trying to remember how I figured it out and if I recall.....I touched a button all the way down my keyboard; which is an HP that looks like a flag....it looks like four rectangular squares together; depicting a flag and then the sound icon came back home. Wish I can show you through a pic which button!! PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I JUST WROTE AND IF IT WORKED!! All I knew, I accidentally touched a button which disengaged the control sound.

If I hold my FB key and the sound button on my keyboard at the same time it works, but all I used to have to do is just press the button itself. I need help, it keeps saying caret browsing. I want my keyboard volume keys to work.

Hi, I tried the Fn for 3sec and unfortunately it still isnt working. I have a HP beatsaudio and everything was working fine up until now when I realized my Play/volume and my mute button is working like a tab button... any other way to fix this...

THANK YOU ever since day 1 my top row of keys didnt work. I thought I got a faulty computer. Its been like 6 months and I decided to just see if It was a messed up setting or not and instead of my FN button doing the trick, my FN Lock button, with the light turned on made everything work. I have a Samsung Notebook Pro 9.
