I spent nearly 1h dealing with Logitech customer service, just to be told I was out of warranty and needed to buy a new mouse. I only managed to get a discount from them to buy on their website. So, I looked on youtube and found this video. Without much hope I tried this, and it absolutely worked. Now I have a discount and my old mouse working 😊 Thank you!

Wow. This is amazing. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! What a simple solution. + the added investment in a comprehensive electronics screwdriver/bit set. Absolutely worth it for anyone on the fence. Thanks, it totally worked! For anyone interested - it is important to stick the blade under the glue of the pads, so as not to separate the two layers that the pads themselves consist of.

Thanks so much - I had the same problem and 3 minutes saved me a lot of frustration and money for a new mouse! My thumb button was giving me a hard time before the mouse stopped working as the default action was somehow triggered all the time - I was able to solve that problem by setting the actin to none for that button. However, that did not work when the cursor stopped moving.

This is amazing and worked wonderfully! If you're like me and you pried open the casing too fast, undoing the connection of the cable to the other part of the case, it's pretty easy to fix. Carefully line up the pins of the strip into the opening on the board, and there should be a white clamp that seals it in place when you place it in all the way, just close that and it should be repaired.

Great video! By the way you can easily disconnect the flat cable between the top and bottom shell by unclasping the the little ivory-colored clamp that is holding it on the circuit board. When you are done, just insert the cable again and press the clasp shut.

You don't even have to open the mouse to fix the problem! What I did was just kind of bend the thumb button a bit to sort of loosen it. And then disabled the thumb button through the Logitech Options app. If you actually use the thumb button, you'll have to open it unfortunately. I personally stopped using it; it takes too much force to press it. Thank you for the video, I would never have guessed it was the thumb button that was causing the cursor lock.

A huge thanks! tips: If there's s a problem with this button it may randomly pop up Task Switche!!! Because the default shortcut is Alt+Tab, at first I suspected a virus, so I checked my computer, reinstalled my system even cleaned the keycaps, such a annoying night! You would never know the criminal is the mouse until you Google Alt+Tab+Mouse!!! Now I followed the video to completely fix and clean up (tons of cat hair) I'll be using it for another 5 years hahaha.

I had similar trouble. Did not even know that button existed, after about 7 years of usage. Unmapped it but it was still buggy. This solution did however not work for me, since it seems to be some physical error with that button in my mouse. So I just cut the wire to it (since i've never used it anyway) and now my mouse seems to work properly again. :) Thanks for great video.

Awesome. It worked! I mean... It kinda worked, at least I can use the original MX Master 1. The pointer wasn't moving and the small plastic tab that pushes on the thumb button was broken, the rubber from the outside also. It doesn't work, I can't use it so I broke the connection to it. Now the mouse works but the outside rubber... Too bad is ripped, it comes out in chunks. The quality of rubbers in mice is not good, I had many from many brands that becomes sticky then it rubs off then it cracks and rips.

THANK YOU! Very happy to not be dropping the money for a new one of these. For anyone in the same situation, bizarrely just unscrewing and separating the mouse top and bottom portions fixed the problem for me. Assume there must have been pressure on the thumb button which was relieved. Also when taking off the pads on the base of the mouse make sure you remove the smooth laminate layer AND the adhesive layer at the same time. I am an idiot and on one end of a side pad managed to get my knife between the layers which then needed superglue to fix it down once finished. Not a big deal and didnt spoil the finish but wouldve been better not to do that!

Thank you very much for this video - I had the same problem and Logitech Support was completely clueless about it. This thumb button isn't just useless, it's annoying: When being in a game, it will send you back to the windows desktop if pressed by mistake. The only way to get rid of this function is to install Logitech Options, but this piece of software isn't compatible to some games... And tools like 'XMouse button control' can't handle the unwanted "extra button". I never use it and as it's obviously the source of a very common problem that easily renders the whole device useless, I consider it to be really bad technical design. Still, Logitech sells it unmodified to this day. IDK about that.

I've had the problem for a while and would just squeeze the sides of the mouse really hard and it would fix it (the pressure allows for the release of the stuck thumb button) unfortunately it has been getting worse. currently I just make sure all my devices have the button disabled within the logitech app. will do this later when I replace the usb port with usbc.
