Fix Windows Update Error 0x80070490
Error code 0x80070490 can happen for many different reasons, so in this video I will take you step by step in fixing and repair windows update error code 0x80070490.
Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP
Warning: Remember to backup your data before you continue.
Repair damaged and corrupted system files
Open Command prompt as Administrator and type:
sfc /scannow
Windows Update Troubleshooting
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
Open Command prompt as Administrator and type:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

wow it fixed my problem "an administrator has blocked you from running this app mmc.exe" I'm just looking for a fix on my windows update! thank you so much! You are my hero! EDIT: It also fixes wsock32.dll error! and maybe other DLL files corrupt/missing! wow just wow thank you!

I sent you a little something Bri last week - I wanted it to be a Surprise. It is not much - some people Binge watch TV I binge watch your vids. Awesome work Bri. Some of your vids are, maybe stating the obvious but 99% of the time its "Oh that's how you do that! Or OH I missed that part when I did that". But I am doing a WA Govt Cybersecurity Course so I hoping you do more on Networking. I am trying Kali but for the life of me can not get it to hook into the laptop Wireless from Kali being on VMware...its bridged and working otherwise.

I'm having problems with my X58 system (Xeon 5680). I get an error 0xc1900101 when trying to upgrade to the 1803 build. Do you have any info on that problem? Or should I just disable this upgrade until the fall update comes out?

The commands in the administrator prompt for repair Windows Update Troubleshooting do not work. Other errors appear when running them

Why would you not try the WIndows10 Built in troubleshooter first to see if that fixes the problem followed by the renaming of the software distribution folder etc?

Hi Brian, do you know if there any problems with connecting USB devices with the latest Windows 10 updates? I recently bought a USB Webcam and a microphone it took ages to set up the Webcam and still have on/off issues, similarly the microphone shows that its connected and working but I can not get it working in OBS it see's it and I can select it but no sound recording - same issue in the control panel yet it works in audacity - any idea's?

When doing any big updates like 1803 its best to remove all peripherals and leave keyboard, mouse and ethernet cable plugged in.

Cal Mac , Attach your devices . Disable firewall , antivirus . Then use Snail Driver /or/ Driver Booster to update all device drivers . That should solve the issues . After 1803 , device updates are coming like a torrential rain that just rejects to quit . Make note of Brian's comment . Please join the forum . Thanks .

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth don't work. Message: "Error: 126 An error occurred while locating the DISM binaries. DISM is attempting to locate dismcore.dll. Ensure that the DISM binaries are present and that you have Read permissions on the folder." How resolve ?

WinUpdate Restart did it for me. Make sure under privacy that email app is turned on.

Didn't know I had to be a computer programmer to get rid of this corruption that was concocted by windows in the first place!! Piss me off!! Windows sucks! My next computer will be a Mac!!
