Not all Dewalt corded drills have a center screw. I have 2 different models and they don't. I have seen a lot of misleading info which fooled me into thinking my center screw was worn down to nothing. So I ground off my worn chuck, and discovered there was no screw. Finally had to buy a new spindle and bearing. I put a KEYED Jacobs 1/2-20UNF chuck on it. Much better, no more scored drill bits or bits that spin.

My Dewalt DCD790 doesn't have a torx screw head inside. It has an allen or hex screw head and it won't loosen by turning it clockwise.

Broke my dcd995 trying to get the chuck off, I guess there's a limit to how hard you can hit that Allen key to break it loose. Opened it up and it completely sheared most of the pins that hold the planetary gears and ripped teeth off of several of them.

DCD950 chuck removal the easy way. I tried all of the tricks I found here and other forums. What ended up finally working for me was using the drill itself to unwind the chuck. You could use a vise but I used my biggest pipe wrench. If you know how to use a pipe wrench this isn't very hard. If you spin one way it loosens and if you spin it the other way the wrench vices down on the chuck (usually pipe). Tighten the wrench correctly onto the chuck, add the battery to the drill (probably want to do this first), select gear 1 and reverse(again, first). There is NO set screw in the chuck. Not reverse thread or otherwise. The chuck is locktighted. The drill itself is strong enough to break the lock tight. I did use all my body weight (feather 145) to hold the drill and the wrench on the floor but it was easy. Pulled the trigger and I thought I broke something but no. It spun right off. This drill broke my hand once, under a house and in an awkward position, and I have strong hands. I hit a big nail and I couldn't release the trigger as it folded my middle fingers back all the way to my wrist. I can still feel the weather change in my knuckles from that one. This is a tough drill/driver/hammer drill. Too bad they discontinued it. I'm glad I can fix mine. It's the best drill I've ever owned.

Having a problem I've removed the screw in my dewalt but cannot get the chuck to release when using the Alenkey the video shows you hitting to release it counter clockwise however the screw losses clockwise. So assuming the video is not flipped the chick releases anticlockwise?

How about a fix-it for drill wobble? I suspect my corded dewalt I bought last year has a bad spindle, it has pronounced wobble.

It's going to be trickier on the situation I've got. My 20 year old dewalt has started to slip. Ground gear broken arbor, not sure. A friend gave me the even older version that had that two piece chuck on it. But it works. So I want to take the better chuck of my broken drill and put it on the older one. I can get the screw out no problem but getting the chuck to unscrew is going to be a problem. I just started doing it today do I'm going to need to get one of those monster allen wrenches because I don't have of them that big.

I have a Dcd950 xrp with a chuck that keeps coming loose during use, the chuck does not have that reverse threaded screw you show in the video, so I'm not sure how to go about removing it.

Best way l get chucks of is using an impact driver, one guy hit he's using the Allen key method l told him you will damage the internals, he carried on wrecked the drill, impact wrench hasn't damaged one I've done quite a few.

How about one that has a seized locking screw inside it? I keep breaking the tips of t20's. Can't really drill it out without a spare drill around. I tried adding heat to it with a soldering iron as well. Apparently dewalt likes their loctite. Sad thing is this drill is only a few months old and already work out.

When I could not remove chuck screw, some friends who are mechanical geniuses were ask for help and they could not remove the screw. The problem was the screw head was damaged by heavy use by original owner of bits contacting the screw head. Original owner put his old drill into recycling bin and purchased a new drill with keyed chuck to solve problem.

On the DCD995 NONE of these methods work!! I have just destructively taken apart this drill bit completely. The chuck is designed as a NON-REPLACEABLE part. There is a screw inside the chuck that can be removed, though that does nothing because the chuck itself is a press fit into the housing. This means hypothetically speaking you could grab the keyless chuck with something and pull it away from the drill to remove it, but I bet that would be nearly impossible since the press fit is extremely tight. The only way I found to remove the chuck is to take both halves of the drill apart, remove the motor and planetary gearbox, and then strike the rod attached to the back of the chuck to remove the keyless chuck from the housing. Once you've done all this you'll find out, as I have, that the chuck isn't available for sell anywhere (none that I could find) and that you'll have probably lost some very small vital parts along the way, as did I. LMAO My DCD995 was fairly old so it was time to put it out to pasture after so much construction. I just wanted to illuminate others that this chuck cannot be replaced and the only way to get it out is very time consuming and ultimately unfruitful. Unfortunately this model has built in obsolescence in this model.
