I’d always carry a knife on the left side cause there are many scenarios that you can’t draw from the right side or strong side if your hand is trapped. Also if the attacker grabs you and lock your shoulder from behind then it won’t matter what and where you carry. Best option is to draw before they get too close and that’s the best case scenario if you can draw under 2-3 seconds.

unless your back pocket is up above your ass cheek and your pants are crooked, its actually a very practical and also easily accessible spot to carry a small fixed blade. now carrying in the small of your back, like scout carry... pretty good for hiking and what not, but not self defense..the pocket though, give it a try. @@jacobkrill4751

Saying that when your hand is trapped, drawing a knife vertically is impossible is incorrect. You simply grab your waistband and drop your pants as fast as you can. Limits your mobility, but you now have a blade and a terrified opponent

If someone attempts to "stuff" you, use your other strong hand to discourage him. There are several options suck as a palm strike, an eye gouge, and an elbow. Or, use your other strong hand to fish hook the neck to head butt and if you chose you could bite a huge chunk of flesh from their facial area. People put way too many eggs in the Ju-jitsu bucket for real combatives. Its not combatives. Its competition with a list of rules. Like Bruce Lee once said. "Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own.” That being said, we dont know what we dont know.
@GnarledSage
@GnarledSage Жыл бұрын
The only real thing you can do if you get attacked with a knife is to grab anything you can to get some distance from the attacker (a chair, a stick, etc) and if you have no other choice protect one of your arms with a shirt or jacket and use it as a “shield”. Anyway you’re gonna get hurt and stabbed. The reality is that if both have knives, both will get hurt. You can find tons of videos online of real attack and knife fights and the reality is very fast and scary. Run or get some space and use a gun. Those are the only real ways to get out of that alive or without several injuries. And if a cut is well placed, it just take that one hit to bleed to death in seconds or a very few minutes.

Its more useful to learn wrestling or mma in that situation, and then once space is created you go for the knife. You need both hands for grappling when you are that close. If you can reach your knife and your arms arent being controlled then its a good idea to draw, but that will never happen. Probably 9/10 times you will have to use both hands to get them off you and then draw your knife. Grappling and knife fighting should not be separate, but trained as one.

The intro alone was worth the laugh! The live blade demo, however, was cringe worthy. One could also carry off-side, vertical, reverse grip...in my situation, that is LH @ 9 o'clock. That said, I generally prefer forward of the hip for pew pews & blades.

A knife is to be felt not seen. I believe this is wrong. None of this would be defendable in court. I don’t even understand why in those situations you would go for the knife. If the person is capable of doing what he’s showing a knife would help the bad guy more then you. It’s better to have something less lethal to use first .
