This is amazing. I have watched many videos on creating a fixed Brummells, all the videos show running the whole length of the line through the first hole. With this method, I just put an eye splice at the end of a spool with out unspooling it. I'm not a kiter, but a hammock camper. This will be used as a ridge line for a tarp or hammock. Also tie-outs for the tarp. Thank you very much, this makes it much easier!

Good idea, saw a video on how to splice a cut line. It's basically the same method, but great idea putting it together. It's really simple. There is a tool for splicing lines that should work for this as well.

Thanks for the video. I really struggled at first and experiemented with many different homemade Fids and different gauge guitar wire. In the end a 22 guage string offered the best balance between rigidity and thinness to slide up the line. I've now tried on Cabrinha, Naish, Liquid Force and even 0.9mm Ozone race lines. All easy to do once you get the hang of it. Im also making my own adjustable and universal line connectors out of 3mm dyneema but these need a 20cm bury so I think Im going to have to stitch them and gonfor a shorter bury / tail. Cheers

Well done, once mastered it really is simple and quicker to do than any other knott, and much neater too

Used this a while back, but I found the tails came out when the line ends flap in the wind. Admittedly this was in extreme wind. The main issue is that this is not a proper Brummel splice: the loop is not locked in both directions. It is probably reasonably safe since the look can only get smaller, but it is missing the second step: passing the short end of the line through the line to completely lock the loop before burying the line.

I've been running all my splices through a sewing machine just to lock it in place.

rtz549 Then you are better off with a straight bury like flysurfer use which is simpler, stronger and much easier to adjust to an exact length.

I, and many many of other power kiters and racers have never had any issues with this knot if it’s made correctly, I’m not going to argue about which is better or not, just saying this knot has been faultless

You misunderstood, I am not talking about burying. If you are interested to learn more then watch a video about how to do the brummel splice. If you are happy with what you have then that's fine for you.

Thanks Carlos. couldn't make it work on my HQ Apex lines - you'd laugh if you saw the mess I made of that! I might need more of a hollow braid methinks.... PS: if you don't have any welding rods, Mattress repair needles or Sculpting needles make good splicing tools.

I think the brummel splice should be used instead of this one for kite surfing. The problem with this splice is that if the tail becomes slack it will slide and the loop will shrink. The sliding could cause friction resulting in failure of the splice itself or the line it is hitched onto. I know you say you have good experience with this splice, but the brummel is only slightly more difficult to splice and is impossible to slide and is therefore theoretically much safer.

can you please specify the type and size of line you are using. I have come across some lines which I cannot bury the tail as the weave is either too tight or there are blockages. I am trying to find a supplier to buy a couple of rolls from but so far each sample I have received has not worked

Any tricks to get the tail back down the main line? I am having a dickens of time on a 500lb dacron line to get it to slide back down the inside. I am having to work the heck out of it and all the friction is causing the line to fray. I didn't have this issue on the smaller line but it was all lightly waxed. I am doing this on my single kite lines now.

I learned rope splicing as a child but I am having a problem with attempting to splice an upper cascade line off my old Buzz Paraglider (1st of the line) and that 2.5 mm braid is hard stuff just to try to get to bulb. Been working on if (yes I broke down and bough a replacement and using the old for learning small cord but I really don't want to have to use the sewing machine and sew a new loop the next time I need a repair. Can't carry them in the field or in the pocket either. Is there a "secret" trick to working with the smaller lines? Believe me, I have watched a few of these training vids (thank you!!) and after a "few" years playing with ropes and lines I feel the monkeys in the monkey house can do a better job than I am doing! Yes I do own a kite too all you pilots! Another question: Does age make a difference in getting them to separate into a bulb? These lines are getting old! Guess I better look at a new wing maybe?

Did you have any luck? Which line did you work on? I'm trying with an upper cascade line off my old Buzz and it's a no go so far and I've brutalized the old line off that Glider so badly trying to get a bulb (budge) to open up I'm waiting for a call from the UNs torture committee! I feel the poor line needs to be framed on the wall for all the life it's had! The lower and larger lines are easy compared. Not like ropes for boats but the same methods, just need a magnifying glass for these old eyes! Braiding rope is much easier but these skills are needed in the field. Need smaller fids! LOL

George Purdy Hi! I tried but i don't think it is possible or at least not practical on paraglider lines, at least not the sheated ones..i guess good old sewing is the way to go on most paraglider lines! ;)

Will this method work on 50ld braided dyneema line or would I be better off just sleeping the line?
@popeyethewelder
@popeyethewelder 6 жыл бұрын
Mark Woodhouse hi mark, I can’t be sure of that as I am not familiar with that brand, all I can say is, if your dyneema is hollow inside as the line in the video, you will be able to do this 👍
@MooCowBlueKites
@MooCowBlueKites 6 жыл бұрын
What type of line do you use for your kite lines? Without the use of sleeving how do you equalize line lengths after stretching when flying a lot. I normally use a spectra dyneema line like Laser Pro Gold or Shanti Speed line for my 2 and 4 line stunt kites and it does stretch some after awhile so I have to undo the sleeving not and retie to make them even. I really like the look of this better though.

any standard traditional power kite lines and also the brake lines....as long as the line is hollow, any brand or make will work like SK75 in 275kg, 220kg, 170kg, 110kg, 80kg or 65kg
