121K+ subscribers is really, really good IMHO! This video was my initial visit to "The Handyman Channel" because I am working on my own wooden gate fence project - HELP! Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing; your video and many other channel videos and comments help me; I have learned that it is tough to document i.e., shoot video of one's projects; thus, that is another skill set I need to practice and improve for myself. I commenced a single entry wooden fence gate repair project yesterday, April 30, 2019, - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpiTns2cytKad4U.html I am researching options to keep this project inexpensive as possible; thus, I know we need a box of nails 3 to 4 inches long for both options ; Option 1: Original Construction concrete anchors for matching wood screws/bolts, epoxy glue, couple of wood planks; Option 2: Use a fence post and [sakrete/quikrete or foam] - then I wonder do we really need to anchor the post to the brick/mortar wall since the distance to the next post is approximately 18 inches

Is screwing into the house to support the post like you did create a risk of water infiltration?
@TheMigraineGuy

Absolutely. Flip side is he is in California (I think) so it's not a big issue. Given the way the fence was it would have been hard to pre-drill the hole, fill it with something, and then drive the lag in.

What suggestion do you have for a sagging gate post that is the lock side instead of the hinge side? The house material is vinyl siding. The gap to the siding (since it's got that repeating ridge pattern) is 4-11/16" to 5-1/8" (do I need to make the reverse profile of the siding into a wooden block? Can I bolt through the siding like you did the stucco? What about water protection?). I only have to deflect the top about 1/8" to 1/4" (hasn't been sagging long), would that post mender do it without the house support?

@TheHandyman1
@TheHandyman1 7 жыл бұрын
Wasn't asked to do that or paid to do that. Its not really worth the time and effort to try to pull out a huge block of concrete that goes 2 feet into the ground. By the time you get the concrete out you have disturbed so much of the surrounding soil that you would need to dig a huge hole and use a ton of concrete. Keep in mind this is a repair on an old fence.

Hey there. Question: I am building a cedar driveway gate with two swinging gates roughly 6 ft wide. One post is stand alone up against the house and I feel like over time this post will loosen.
