This front-loader washing machine was overpacked, and caused a rip in the door gasket. Replacement gaskets cost well over $100.
Here is the $6 tube of polyurethane sealant: amzn.to/3lgNprz
If it's out of stock, this product is identical but a different color: amzn.to/3lg9vP2
And here's a cheap caulking gun: amzn.to/3fDfJU3
I get a small cut if you use my links above and it's free for you, hope they help!

Just fixed mine the other day and it is now working leak free! I did make a small mistake and wanted to let everyone else know: make sure that you keep the wax paper flush with the existing surface, or smooth it back down after application. I think I pushed it out slightly while applying the sealant and ended up with the polyurethane curing slightly proud of the surface. This caused the original seal to have a non-contact situation with the washer door and water leaked initially during my first two loads. After applying pressure with the door closed for a while, I was able to get the surface to be flush again and now it's working. But worth paying attention to if you're going to try this! Thanks!

Works so far, thanks!! I think the gasket had been leaking slowly for years. I applied it at night after the latest laundry room flood, then added a little more to it the next morning to make sure it was high enough. After 3 days, the wax paper pulled off without the residue seen in the video. Note that the tube looks different than in the video, but the amazon picture looks the same as what I bought in May, 2022. I wish I had looked at the amazon link before trying to find it at Lowe's, it was in the caulking section, kind of by the construction adhesives, not the roofing section. Also note the unopened shelf life of these tubes are 12 months, and of course, there is no date or best by date on the tube.

I just did the exact same repair (thank you) It was almost the same tear to a tee and in the same location. I did have an issue with the blue painters tape so I had to use duct tape. I also would recommend letting it dry for at least 3 days before taking the tape and wax paper off and then letting it dry another 3 days if you can wait as I found the wax paper side still tacky. But all and all it did work very well and not even a drip was seen...

Such a great video, thanks for this. I had tried (unsuccessfully) sealing a tear using shoe goo but this worked perfectly. I removed the wax paper after about 36 hours and it came off clean.. Just had to trim the edge like you did in the video. I waited about 72 hours before doing the first wash

I did this fix last week and can now use the machine again--thanks for the video. Note on my experience--I used aluminum foil as the tape backing--big mistake. The roofing sealant sticks to metal. I realized 2 1/2 days into the curing that the foil needed to be removed which I did, and then back filled the cratered sealant, and smoothed it with plastic knives to match the surrounding gasket angle. I let it cure another 5 days and all is well with the machine now. The roofing sealant bonded to the original gasket and is flexible and forms to the washer door to seal properly. The most important thing was to have a flat surface where the new seal makes contact with the door, and overlap the fix in the back for strength.

Thanks Adam, it worked great. Im in the UK, and used baking paper (grease proof) and it worked fine, (if not better there were no residual threads of tape) and used Sika Sikaflex EBT+ All-Weather Sealant Grey 300ml. This polyurethane was in grey too so matches the inner tube colour quite well. I left it to dry for a full 48 hours and it was still sticking a little to the door when you opened it, but stayed in place and after a dozen washes now it still in place, not sticking, and nice and flexible, and no leaks! The whole job cost under 8.00 pounds and took about 30 minutes to complete!

Have to say a huge thanks, not that I saved money because I already bought a new seal (£23 - $35) but when I went to put it on my just over a year old machine I noticed that the inner retaining clip would be a hassle to undo and I'd waited over 2 weeks for the seal from Italy. So 3 washes in and I'm well chuffed. Thanks.

Similar hole in my daughter’s machine. I followed the instructions but I couldn’t find any grease proof paper so I followed a couple of other tips and used baking paper. It peeled off easily. Small leak the first two times and then like some others said, it moulded into shape and now works a treat. Daughter was quoted over AUD$100 for the seal and $200 to fix. So this was the best tip ever.

@@UncleLawrence91they probably design their machines to fail this way. It’s called “planned obsolescence”. There’s a lightbulb in a museum in California called Centennial Light, which has been lit for over 100 years now - this is often used as an example to prove manufacturers can make things that don’t break easily, when they want to. Landfills are full of rubbish that’s not recyclable because companies design things to break after a while, so they could sell some more. By the way, unbreakable goods do exist - they’re called “military grade”. When they sell products to the military then they have a much higher life expectancy

Left 48 hours. The foil came off clean and leak fixed. So far so good.

Just another thanks add. Carried this out on our 10.5KG Panasonic door seal on Friday. It had a largish 2½" tear at the bottom. After trimming up the damaged section, I used SIKA 291 Marine adhesive sealant to patch. 48 hours later, did an initial 15 minute leak test wash. From flooding the laundry floor with the failed seal to no leaks with the repaired one. Working as well as a new seal AFAIC. The Mrs. then put 8 successive large loads through the machine that day. I couldn't stop her. She was in a washing frenzy. Another 2 loads the next morning. I think this repair will outlast the machine! AUD$15 instead of AUD$500-$600 if I'd had a professional repairman in to supply and fit a new door seal. Two thumbs up.

Was not about to spend 120 dollars for a door seal for a few drips, they evaporate here in an hour or so. Anyhow after some hard looking to even fine polyurethane sealant, not readily available here, I found some for 12 dollars a tube!!! It works great, Thanks so much for this tip. I now have enough sealant to last me thee rest of my life, but this is a great tip

Randy DeVolld hello from upstate NY! Glad it worked for you! The stuff’s great-I’ve used it to patch rips in my hot tub cover, as general purpose glue, and even to keep the elements out of a rust spot on my car. Keep it handy!

This just happened like 10 minutes ago, heard a loud bump while the washing machine was spinning, I think a thread of fabric caught and took a chunk out of it, it's still leaking, might try this

This worked for us too using the grey Saka weather seal compound. Another tip is to get a smooth finish on the front of the rubber for a better seal to the door is to wet sand the rubber. You'll need a sanding block and a spray bottle with warm water. You can use 400 grit for this and just sand left to right spraying the warm water on the rubber and the sanding block.

Fantastic.!!!! I've used this caulking on roof repairs. While watching vids of people replacing the whole gasket,,,, your KZfaq popped up.. i knew you were right. Just the material to plug the gap. Your tear was so like mine---- I went out and bought a fresh tube from Home Depot--- about $9.00. followed your technique-- wax paper. painters tape on Sunday 29th Nov. today i washed first load Not a drop of water leaked. I put a sample bead on a magazine and monitored its curing. Felt safe after 5 days. You saved us a bundle. Had already found place to buy gasket.... now is $160.. say some other crazy repairs after yours showed up,,, but i would say to all.. Do What Adam Did.

You are a god send. I will try this later. The seal itself looks to be like $160CDN ish, and that's ridiculous for fixing a little tear. The tear I have is pretty much exactly like yours was, so I think I should have similar results. Thanks for the video. Owe you a beer! :)

Excellent job, ill keep this fix in mind (I refurbish washing machines as a former service engineer) Heres a quick tip for you if this does fail at some point :-) if its a small tear (large one do the same as you did in this video first), you can turn 90% of gaskets upside down, just so long as the gasket doesn't connect directly to the dispenser drawer or any other piping. Usually they are just the rubber seal with nothing else connecting. They have a marker to tell you wish way is up, because there is little drain holes at the bottom. If your doing it as a repair then just block these holes and drill new drain holes at the new bottom to stop water pooling, obviously check where your drilling as it needs to be draining the water into the plastic tub and not your floor haha. So turn it upside down, drill the new drain holes, and that sealant you have there is nifty stuff, so just block the old drain holes at the top with that (although I would be surprised if water ever came out of them unsealed, as they are in a fold, and water level is obs no where near the top of the door, so only on spin cycles when waters being sprayed around would it have a chance, but because of the fold I would imagine it would never happen, still if you have silicone or your nifty stuff, squirt some) Good video mate, will like it :)

Hey, excellent idea. How do it turn it upside down?
@TAGGdinc
@TAGGdinc 2 жыл бұрын
In order to turn it upside down you have to pretty much take everytjing apart as if you were gonna replace it so much easier to patch than rotate
@jasonhounsell3297
@jasonhounsell3297 2 жыл бұрын
@@TAGGdinc For the majority you don’t have to strip, some older Zanussi ones you do. Most can be done just taking the lid off and ones like Samsung you do take the front panel off however it takes 2 minutes - a little longer if it’s your first time. The tip is if you don’t want to replace it, which might be the only option - this is a dirty fix that can be done on the spot to get the machine running with nothing bought.

I used Permatex 82180 and parchment paper. No leaks! It is currently cold and humid. I set a fan over the washer overnight and it appeared to dry. I pulled the tape off out of excitement. I still waited 3 days before using.

I'm trying it too, just waiting to cure now. My tear is on the front lip, I left it as a tear instead of cutting the "flap" off and making it into a notch. I figured I can always come back and cut it off later and try again. Fingers crossed but this should work!
