In 2023 this still is the fix! I just bought a grand marquis for $1500 dollars and the air wasn’t blowing through the vents only defroster and now it works like a charm thank you!

Thanks. This is the best video I've found on this. Just replaced the o-rings in my '08 Grand Marquis hvac controller and now it all works. It was stuck on defrost. Saved me $320 on buying a rebuilt unit

Best diagnostic I have seen yet on my problem! Spent $1200 at a local shop that pulled and replaced parts from under the hood which did not fix anything, only to have them tell me they don’t deal with dash issues. Seriously.

Just fixed mine thanks but if you bend the tabs up and raise up the connector tabs up a little you can use needle nose pliers to pry the silnoid and O ring out without taking the whole thing apart.

I did it but I didn't have o-rings. I used Teflon and wrapped it around the existing o-rings and it actually worked! Thanks for the video!

Worked!...Side Note:: Don't just assume it works with key turned, you have to start the ignition for it to take effect....was still just blowing out defrost until it reset when i started the car....Thanx!

I have an 06. I had to do my blend air door and accumulator. This is all i got left. Only blows through defrost vent. $500 for a new unit or just a dollars worth of orings? Ill take the orings. Thanks for the video my man.

The original O-rings that came with the car are outdated. They are made of silicone, and silicone isn't the strongest O -Ring. They are prone to tearing and failing prematurely. My advice is, buy the one's that are "nitrile." I know that Harbor Frieght carries a set of 205 pcs. They are all different sizes, but comes with the size you'll need for your panther platform. It's the F1014x labeled in the box. The item number is 67644. . The box will say, "HNBR O-Ring Assortment. HNBR stands for "hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber," which is far superior to silicone and withstanding extreme temps. So when you look for new O-Rings, don't buy the silicone ones, get the HNBR ones. If you don't live in an area where there is a Harbor Frieght then check out their website.

I purchased the o-rings from harbor freight mentioned above but they are much too big for this fix. I ended up having to buy the correct size o-rings on Amazon.

Hey Jesse. I have a 2006 CV and posted before. Will the same scenario / issue cause the heat to stop working? I received 2 error codes "24" & "25"! Once the self-diagnostic was complete only error code"25" shown then AC worked as state in my last post. Is code "25 related to the heat? Thanks for the support.

Size o-rings needed are 007. I opted for silicone over EPDM, won't fail again over time.

Thanks! Again bro if u have a video on replacing the blower switch and the actuator please send or tag me, cuz I know the actuator is gonna be tough. Also my cluster panel lights go out for speedometer but it's center 30 to 100 sometimes n then sometimes it's 0 to 30 and 100 to 120. I'm think it's a short but if u know anything about that as well ease let me know

My 2005 Ford Focus had a simple mechanical knob that redirected the airflow. Is there a way to bypass all of the Rube Goldberg horse shit with a coathanger or something to manually manipulate the air flow?

I replaced the o rings w the ones from Harbor Freight as mentioned below. The new Harbor Frt O rings are .5mm bigger however and so I had to use a little force to re-insert the little pistons. The a/c does now come out of the forward facing vents, but only while in Park. As soon as I shift into Drive, I hear something actuate and it goes right back to blowing out of the Dash Vent Only. This would indicate to me some sort of additional issue, possibly electrical?? , or could it be a Vacuum issue? thanks anyone please

That’s sounding like blend doors which is next step and you already replaced o rings. Test it again b4 hand tho.

My sable had no air out the center vents either, but i replaced the blender door actuator and that fixed the issue.

Bro if I had it I'd send u money ur the only one that said hit defrost after test reset. Others said cool (blue button) My ac has been acting up (24 & 25 codes) works for awhile then goes out but my fan went out n 10mins after hitting defrost after reset my blow works 😁 Thank u so much. I live in Florida n even though it's November no ac was still sucking plus I work bar at night so that meant no defrost at 3am in the morning n driving with windows down and a napkin trying to clear my fogged up windshield. Seriously bro thank u so much. I wish I could of sent u more 💯 Mad respect n love for the proper reset, not sure why the other's videos said the blue temp button but as soon as I did defrost like u said everything on the control module lit up n I knew it was a true reset n before I finished commenting the blower came back n I had ac n I was like fk it I'ma send u what I can spare cuz u truly saved me pulling this thing apart right now. I know I'll have to soon but atleast not tonight lol Thanks again

It’s winter and I get either cold air or super hot-- nothing in between. I noticed the outside temp button showed 127F. I pull the sensor out of its plug (sits in front of radiator) and reseated it. Now I get full control. But the outdoor temp is going back to 120 every once in awhile. Can that sensor cause my problem ?

I replaced the sensor, and now it accurately reports outside temp. I still have my problem. I’m guessing it’s the actuators on the control board. I know the door itself works it’s just not getting the proper signal

Thanks for the video. I did the rebuild, but with a single O-ring per tube. Vent works perfectly. On "floor" I get some bleed air out the defrost, and vice versa on "defrost." I do hear the doors moving.

Most cars seem to bleed a little air out the defrost when things are set to "floor"- I think it's just to make sure the windshield stays clear.

My stupid ass did the test even though my A/C was working and got a 24 code. Now my A/C won’t work and is 90 degrees 😂. Front vents were struggling to stay on so I had to get it done soon regardless but now I’m rushed to do so 🤬

But what I don’t understand is after you bend the metal tabs up then you pulled the whole metal housing off and took it all apart. Why would you waste all that time? You just bend the metal tabs up and just pull the shaft out that has the O-ring on it replaced the ordering. It just said it right back in there bend the tabs down. You don’t have to take it all apart that far just to do something simple basically just wasting time and doing more work than you need to.

You wouldn’t understand until you actually do the job yourself and you're likely basing your opinion on the visual aspect, if I didn't have to open the taps I wouldn’t. I’m speaking from personal experience, no offense intended. This video is a year old and my editing skills weren’t that great and my explanation has improved.
