Thanks for watching. This echo starts but it would die and was unusable. It turns out that the carb needed some attention . These carbs also have hidden adjustment screws and we get to use them in this video .

Guys save yourself about an hour of trying to fix your carb. I just got a carb, spark plug, gas tank stopper with fuel lines, air filter, gaskets and pime bulb. The carb come complete and all you do is bolt it on and add new filter. Push the primer, choke it and start it. Done in 24 minutes. The kit is on amazon for $15 free shipping with prime. Bam!

Amazon carbs last about a season before they give issues at least in my commercial experience. Oem carbs last the lift of the motor and maybe require a rebuild once with cheap gaskets. My 2 cents

Thanks so much for your video! Watched it twice before tackling the job. Trimmer was a six year old SRM-230 with a blade attachment that started and idled but bogged down wide open. I had replaced the basics and the metering diaphragm to no improvement. Your mentioning what the “hidden” screw actually did enabled me to actually remove the cap with a pick(lucky) and adjust. You have to have the air filter on when you do any carb adjustments, if you adjust the carb so the engine runs ok with the air filter OFF it will not run properly when you put the air filter back on because of the resistance of the air through the air filter changes the settings, that is why you HAVE to have the air filter on when doing carb adjustments to do it right

I love my Echo trimmer. It's a model 230S. I have never had any starting or running problems in the many years I've owned it. I use only Shell gasoline and a high-quality 2 cycle oil. I've changed the spark plug once. In the Fall I empty most of the fuel from the tank and then start and run it until it stops. I did this with my old made-in-USA Homelite trimmer and leaf blower and they lasted over 25 years. Thanks for the well-made video.

Emanuel Ravelli from what I understand most of those cheap carburetors come from China the Machining on these carburetors are really horrible the screws some of them won't tighten up some of them stripped out you just get what you pay for the hole that they fuel adjusting screws go down in don't have the right taper they're not they're just drill out and not machine smooth so you can never really get a good running mower or weed eater or whatever

Great video, and thank you for sharing you expertise with us, If I may I like to ad a couple of tips just for other users/readers can have a good chance of getting their machine running again, 1-blow off all of the loose dirt and grime,,,maybe use some brake cleaner spray can from the auto parts to clean off all of the junk, and have a clean exterior, (less chances to dropping dirt or junk into the the engine) 2- I highly recommend to put an old towel or small carpet under your working unit,,just in case something falls out or jumps out, and this way you can catch it or find it. 3-some kind of blower dust off can or a compressor air line to blow off all of the junk on the internal parts (not sure if you can use brake cleaner or choke cleaner to just spray of the junk of this parts) and last I would definitely would try the 1.00 fix before spending 15.00

Very nice video and informative as I repair these on my channel as well I know it would be easier & quicker to replace the carburettor but I would replace the diaphragm as it keeps the cost down for customers but on a lot of these carburettors you can’t get the brass or plastic caps out to tune it up so it’s easier to replace the carburettor

Great Video. My 30+ year old Echo had a cracked fuel tank. Hard to find a new fuel tank for these older models, so I used a Gator Aid bottle and a couple zap straps. Works great. :)

I agree, but 18 bucks is enough for a cheesy aftermarket Chinese carb. An OEM Zama carb is about twice that but still well worth it.

I've had very good luck with Echo equipment. I have three saws, a 500vl about 35 years old, a 300 about 12-15 years old and 600 P about 3 years old, in addition to a string trimmer which is about 20 years old. The saws get very heavy use for short periods of time and sit around for months in between. I have found a gas station that sells no-ethanol fuel and use that exclusively in my small engines, and it has helped a lot. I also had a hand held Echo leaf blower that was very good that I sold to a friend because I needed a more powerful machine. For small suburban lawns the handheld was perfect.

I got the trimmer for free. PO never maintained it and the residual fuel had turned to applesauce. So I replaced the tank, lines, and carb at the same time. Tank (with lines and new filter) was $12. The carb (with filter and spare lines) was $11.50. Both were ordered online - free shipping!

My trimmer was a Bolens/Riobi so the numbers may be different for your application. What I did was to take pictures of the trimmer to capture make/model info (cuz my short-term memory stinks!). Then I went online and did a couple of basic searches using the model # and "fuel tank" or "fuel line" as keywords. The most substantial hit I got was for ereplacements (dot) com. They had exploded view parts diagrams showing part numbers. I bought some parts from them and also did searches using the part # to make sure their prices were competitive (in some cases they were, in others not). They listed the part # for the carb but said no longer available. A quick search using the part # located the carb at ebay for 1/3 the price! Good luck Tony!
