I witnessed this Fantastic Hammer in person it is Truely a Magnificent machine . Made during the years of mechanization when a Craftsman stood there working the metal , Conquering it if you will. Chris is a Great Craftsman and a good friend , it is and Honor to know him. Stay Safe Don't Die

Glad it see it finally secured to the floor! Nice job on the dies! Going to make that hammer a workhorse again! Good job explaining and showing the throw adjustment. A set of of combo dies would be really nice. Nice power switch!! You have that hammer looking great again!! Glad to see old power hammers with someone that appreciates them and gets them back to work! Looking forward to seeing what you make with it!!

Man, this was a long time coming! It’s gotta be over a year ago that we were looking at the mechanism talking about how to increase the stroke and debating the merits of making a new lower die. It looks like your theories were dead on, and now that the die is cut down and they’re both polished up it looks awesome. 🙌🏻

Have you seen the Hit Miss Bang video on diagnosing powerhammer issues, interesting watch nonetheless 🙌 we control our 100lb homebuilt with VFD and linear potentiometer, best thing we did 👊

As always you did a great job explaining how your hammer works and improving its usefulness One item that troubles me is sticking your hand between the dies. Hopefully, there is a means of locking the hammer In college, my next door worked a summer at a press stamping out automotive parts. The machine he was operating required both feet to be placed on the pedals and both hands operated the controls. If he moved a foot or hand off a control the press shut down. Seeing the metal was not positioned properly he moved away from the controls. He reached into the press to reposition the part. The press turned on and crushed his hand. The bottom line, is never place your hand between the dies.

Thanks for watching! As soon as your foot comes off the treadle there is a brake shoe that locks down on the flywheel up top. It’s impossible to move the ram when that brake shoe grabs… that being said I shouldn’t have done that…

Awesome work! Would like to point out though, that your concrete might be too thin for that machine. You can see your machine to the left rocking when you’re using it at 15:55 in your video. You may eventually crack your foundation. Be careful!

Question:How hard is the bottom face after you cut off the top part? Seems that it must be fairly soft since it cut fairly easily with the band saw. You may find that you need to add a hardened face after a while. But for now, it looks like you’ve made it a great worker for your shop!

I know nothing about power hammers but I presume that the power lifts the ram & gravity does the hammering? So what is going on with that yellow linkage that connects the "wishbone" to the ram?

Also no expert here but I think it gives some flexibility to the mechanism, whereas, if it were hard mounted it would jam up if it hit anything inside of its full stroke.

I am not a blacksmith, but it appears to me you are getting a lot of movement of the tower itself. Still not mounted securely enough, or is this typical? Thanks.

1 problem I see is you are maxed out on the stroke of the hammer cause you cut the die so low.
@MakeEverything

Theres actually a fair bit more stroke to adjust into if I wanted to using the cam offset

@realemonful you continue being you, I'll continue being me. Lol. It's not a dovetail, just saying. People want to change or disregard black and white facts and allow for things to fall into the "gray area. " .... in doing so, "things" are left to interpretation, and due to the various interpretations, you have a very basic but effective measure of knowledge erosion. 👍

Die kleinen Schrauben hättest du auch weg lassen können. 😂 Das ist doch keine vernünftige Befestigung der Maschine. Und die Winkel sind auch viel zu dünn

Not a good idea to put your body parts between the dies/sow block - no matter how secure you think they are.

I don’t know nothing about power hammer etiquette, but I suspect putting one’s hand between the die and anvil while the motor is running is a horrible invitation to a very painful disaster. Are there any experienced professional power hammer users out there who could weigh in on this?
@MakeEverything
@MakeEverything 11 ай бұрын
No question, I shouldn't have done that... BUT there is a brake shoe that completely locks the flywheel when your foot it off the treadle, so while not the right move, there is no way for the ram to fall.

@@MakeEverything - Thank you so much for clarifying that there is a brake while parked. I did not know that. I just hate to see another very inspiring YT’er get maimed like Stan over at Bar-Z did earlier this year. I only wish you the very best. Stay safe my friend. You have so much more to accomplish 👍👍😎👍👍

It's not a big deal the clutch was disengaged. In alot of forge shops the large hammers are always under power, even during die change over etc. Don't step on the clutch and you'll keep your hand.
