I scrapped an old Gazelle bicycle that came with a Brooks B66S Leather saddle.
It was dried out, sagging and somewhat broken. So in this video I try to fix it and bring it back to life. So I can use it on my classic Union bicycle.
Although I never liked leather saddle all that much, they do look good, especially on a vintage bicycle.
This is the first time I'm restoring an old and dried out leather saddle. And I believe the result is acceptable. I guess time will tell if this was a success story :)
If you have any tips on how to bring old leather saddles back to life please put it in the comment below the video. Because I have another Brooks saddle that is a lot worse than the one in this video. The leather has sagged onto the frame and the leather is hard and almost brittle. So that will be a challenge :)
FYI: this is basically the same video I recently uploaded on to my Rolingmetal channel. But this time it has no music and it's only 720p to save on the upload time. • Fixing a Brooks B66S l...

You're right you should have looked at some KZfaq vids lol for a start i would have cleaned the springs and used fine wet and dry paper to smooth down the cracked leather and re stained it before using oil but it all depends how far you want to renovate the saddle but it did make an improvement all the same👍

It is normal to moisturise the underside of a leather saddle once every year or two. 👍

I love your clogs! It reminded me of my childhood in Holland, when all the farmers wore them. All the best from Scotland. 🇳🇱🇬🇧

Welcome to my practice channel, hat I setup last year when Google would not let me login. I use to practice my talking, that got a bit of a hit after I had a little brain fart (t.i.a.). One of the things I also practice, is using music in videos :) It makes them a bit less boring i.m.h.o.

Nice that somebody got something out of that video :) But I doubt that I'm the first one who ever fixed a Brooks saddle this way. All those brooks B66 saddles seem to suffer from the same problem. Although this one was particularly bad. But I'm sure you got some with the same issue :) I actually fixed up another one with the same problem. Interesting video. Personally, I would probably have started with some leather soap to remove the old dirt. And after that I would have applied grease. Best wishes. Marc

Next saddle I fixed up, I cleaned it with some white spirits. Never heard of leather soap, I will have to look that up :)

@@RolingRandom Hi, me again. You may check this out: Glyzerin Lederseife by Horse fitform, available on Amazon.de I saw you using Lederfett, a German product. And I heard your German pronounciation. I assume you understand and possibly speak some German. So I think it does make sense to refer you to Glyzerin-Lederseife. You apply it to dirty leather like cream, let it do its job for some time, wash the dirt off with lukewarm water, let the leather dry, and then apply leather grease. Best wishes / herzliche Grüße Marc

You do need a special Brooks spanner. I have several. I will send you one if you want

I actually made my own :) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJOFms-htZ-6aXU.html Question, do new Brooks saddles come with a spanner, or do they make you buy one separately?

You got a picture of my hacksaw! How did you do that? Also, was thinking you could just paint olive oil or something onto it. Maybe also some balsamic vinegar.

You also got the wonderful chinesium blades :) I got another leather saddle, that is a lot drier, almost brittle. And I was thinking about brushing some vegetable oil on the underside before I start tensioning it. At the moment you are basically sitting on the frame and it sucks :) I need to google balsamic vinegar.

Furthermore I apologise for my nation's threads. We have now seen the light. Maybe squash an m8 in the vice and use that.

No, just a re-upload without the music and only basic audio volume level tweaks. I did fix up another saddle, but that video became rather long. Have a look if you got some time to kill: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eJOFms-htZ-6aXU.html (no music because that would take to long to pick out)

is the S model for women , as in "small"?
@RolingRandom
@RolingRandom 2 жыл бұрын
A B66 saddle is a bit longer so I think the B66S is probably the small model.
@rottnlove
@rottnlove 2 жыл бұрын
The S is for "Short" on Brooks saddles generally used by women, but if a man thinks it is more comfortable than a longer standard men's saddle they can use it as well. It isn't like it is neon hot pink or labeled all over as "women's" to be noticeable or on blast. The only identification of what the saddles model is you typically will have covered with your butt anyway, so nobody will ever know if you don't tell them.
