The nice thing about these old locos is that 90% the time the answer to "what's wrong with it?" Is simply that it's dirty and dry. Very rarely is there anything out of sorts that a mildly handy kid couldn't figure out and fix him/herself.

Usually the case with old electronics that have been kept well. Old Gameboys it's the power switch half the time

That runs surprisingly smoothly now!Quite often the magnets in these motors are a fraction of their original power. There were remagnetizing machines, but neodymium replacements provide a simpler remedy.

Not into this hobby myself, know nothing about it and havent had an intewst in model trains like ever. But for some reason im in love with the fact that the screw that holds it together is in the chimney 😭

As a kid thie video would've been absolutely amazing for me. KZfaq is an amazing resource for kids and new people getting into the hobby. I know thid isn't complex but videos like this give you the confidence to problem solve and fix issues like this.

Ah, the loco that kicked off my love of model trains. Took it over from my brother when he lost interest. I remember carrying out just about the same repair. With me as custodian, the collection grew & bro persistently tried to reclaim "his train set"..😂😂😂

My mother’s uncle gave me a Tri-ang pannier tank that wasn’t running. All it needed was brushes (as they were missing) along with an oiling and cleaning the wheels and now it works like a charm.

@@gunnarrobinson4002 sorry, I just don't have time at the moment to take on anything else. The triang chassis is quite forgiveable. Most parts are available on ebay. If you send an email with the picture I can advise on what you need to do.

My mum‘s dad used to love those model trains, and I do I love little model trains. I actually had that jinte but I left it at my train club awhile back and I never saw it again.

I prefer these engines over the plate engines. The extra pulling power and sound are so much better.

We had two of those locos in TT scale when I was wee. All our train stuff was second hand and the brass gears on these were mostly worn out. Late 60s.

@@lmm Little boys running them as fast as they can go and then taking them apart to "fix" them without knowledge or tools probably didn't help!

The loose capacitor terminals only reduces the EMC and was not the whole cause of it not working.

@@twickersruss honestly, I don't know what was wrong with it. It didn't work, motor ran when tested as par video, nothing was seized. So it makes a good story.

I have the same triang jinty but the bodyshell is warped and the motor is shot, I separated the motor and the circuit board crumbled so it's a freeroller untill I find a replacement, any suggestions on where to find one?

The lose connection of the capacitor shouldn't have been the problem as the two poles of the motor was still connected. It must have been siezed up somehow

The motor works without it, but it's good to use it. The capasitor is there to reduce radio frequency caused by the motor brushes aswell as helping the motor to run smoother
