In this episode I show you how you can fix you cold start problems/issues with changing of the glow plug relay module. The module is looking a bit different on the preface models. this is facelift

My car is a BMW E46 320d that`s turbo diesel 2002 model facelift. I did already change the glow plugs, but that did not fix the cold start diesel issue. Found out that is was the glow plugs relay module. it`s often the module is you get fault code on every glow plug. this also apples to the M57 straight six Diesel engines and maybe other engines also with this DIY. ! have a nice day.

Relay and control unit/module are two different things. People mix them often while talking about glow plug control units. And definitely it’s not a “relay module” 😂

Bro i have same bmw and diagnostik says modul is not ok but i can start the car when is cold motor but when is hot no start. Wtf is problem ?

Did you notice a slight power loss after removing swirl flaps? Im planning to remove them on my 320cd 2003

Hello, about this problem and the cold start problem. What was it the symptom and have you got some fault codes in the car computer?

I don`t remember excatly, but I think the faulty code was fault glow plug 1,2,3 and 4. All of them. swapped the glow plugs, and still same issue. Swapped this and alot better cold start. symtoms was simply hard to start in cold weather.

Always enjoying our videos! Here's a tip that will save you time, effort, pointless work etc: Spend a few minutes to check an online workshop manual before you plan to start any job on the car, particularly those you never done. For instance, in this case, the workshop manual instructions clearly describe how the Glow Plug relay is accessed from underneath. Check the manual, learn what tools and parts you may need and how to access and do things. This way you don't waste energy taking appart the car to find what you don't need.
