Not one but two compressors gone bad. At the same time too! Both are the Central Pneumatic brand from Harbor Freight, 21 gallon 2.5 HP 125 PSI MAX models.
I'm hoping these are quick, simple and cheap fixes. Let's see if these fixes work, if not I may have to strip them down and turn them into something else lol.

Thank you for this. I went to take the winter air out of my drum set to put in new spring air. But the air compressor just kept running as if it were Cleatus being surprised by his probation officer with a cup in his hand. Now, thanks to this outstanding scholar, I can rest easy tonight knowing my air compressor just forgot how to reed.

Good video, thank you. I’ve been searching for a diagram of the exact way it goes together. I have all the parts but not sure the order of reassembly. What order did you put back together? Starting from the compressor itself, cylinder, then one thick metal spacer that has the indentation for a reed valve, then the other thick metal spacer to hold the other reed valve, then thin metal gasket then the head? In your video, that thick metal piece came off with the cylinder head, but when you reassembled it, it looked like you were just putting the head over all the parts, lining up the holes, and bolting back together? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I have reassembled it a few times, and it still doing the same thing. Turns on, makes a groaning sound, but does not start.

My compressor starts working and builds pressure up to 150psi but sometimes during work it will not start and won't keep tank charged. Sometimes it turns on only for a few seconds then goes quiet. Sometimes I hears something that it wants to start like air going somewhere through the pipe for about 2 second and then quiets and stays like that. Fails to keep up pressure in tank when I use it. Pressure goes low as 50psi but compressor doesn't start. Then I had to open drain valve to release remaining air pressure in the tank. Disconnect it from AC power for few minutes and it starts working again build up to 150psi again. I don't hear any air leaks. What could be wrong? How to fix it?

I guess I didn’t elaborate on that very much did I? Generally if the compressor will stall on restart with air in the tank and trip the breaker it’s that small relief valve. If it runs and runs and runs and doesn’t make much pressure and just gets hot it’s usually the reed valve. Now sometimes you can have both conditions so I just played it safe and ordered 2 of each part. Always good to have spares on hand.

Any tips or tricks on how to keep that diaphragm in place when trying to put cover back on? Take it easy on the 5 year old Chinese child that put that compressor together! I think he did a great job for only being 5 years old and working 23 hrs a day in a sweat shop! He only forgot one important part! 🤣 I give ya credit though for working with what ya got and rolling the dice. You are a better man than me! Glad to see it worked out for you. …just curious…how much were these compressors new? I used the same harbor junk compressor that came with the used blast cabinet I bought off a guy as a holding tank. I ran the compressor one time and didn’t feel like wearing double ear protection so I won’t ever plug that Chinese death trap in! I’m still trying to wrap my head around him actually sand blasting with (one) of these grenades for 10 years and never upgrading!!! I think he just plugged the compressor in, filled his hands full of media, and threw it at what he was working on.
