FIXING OUR HOME WIFI COVERAGE
* Forgot to mention in the video, the new cable ended up being only used as a draw wire for the existing due to being the wrong type*
For 2 years we have struggled to cover our home with wifi.
Ditching the powerline adaptors that we were using and swapping to Access Points.

Well done, The Omada series from TP-Link are quite impressive, I've used in hotels and restaurant's. Have one home customer in similar scenario as your self. Also used one outdoor Omada models for their garden. If you have not I recommend setting up a guest SSID, that way visitors will be isolated from your personal network.

Thank you, that is really good to hear actually. Yes I have considered a guest SSID, especially now as restrictions ease and more people are allowed around 😁

Very normal to see speed increases like that when you remove internal wiring and have router connected to master socket. Might be a bit late but I would also think about future proofing and leave some draw rope near your new master socket should you go to full fibre to make your life easier. Great work though 👏

Thank you, absolutely agree, I think it should be fairly easy to pull the old cable back through with a fibre if needed as The future, as the void is a large open space.

Old damaged phone cables and shoddy wiring are a thing and will impact broadband even if the phone works. Good to see you didn't move your own master socket as that is definitely a job BT "MUST" do 😂😂. Only thing I would do is wall mount the router and then get some outdoor access points for the garden. Good tutorial.

As said in the video, the location will get all sorted eventually and the router wall mounted. As for the garden, we get good coverage so I wont be adding any more there.

Not sure if it was covered in the video, but make sure all of the devices share the exact same name and then your WiFi connected products will seamlessly switch between devices as you move around the house.

That was mentioned a few times in the video. Thank you for sharing though.

I’ve just added a few TP link EAP225 to my house this weekend but I also added a OC200 cloud controller so then I can use fast roaming.

@@DIYJourney1 You can configure everything from routing, security, fair use etc. It covers all the Omada range of products. You can download a software version and pop it on a pc but it needs to run 24*7. For my purpose, the controller monitors what devices are connected to which AP and then automatically switches them as and when needed as you don’t want to be connected to the upstairs one when you are near the downstairs one.

Thats great, thank you, will look at getting one ordered

@@DIYJourney1 You won’t regret it. They recommend to use a controller if you have more than 2 access points. Look forward to the follow up video.
