mach6 was already pretty roughed by the guy using the spearhook on him and bashing him around with it. also it got that bad because he had to go extremely more agressive because they were all on a manhunt on him because the main villain bribed them to do so before the race started. most notably against the 2 racers in the lead were 2 other grunts from the main villain that on a previous race cooped to take him down (also with spearhooks, ilegal tech) so he needed to take them both down. also i like to think that, by the time he was near the end the brakes were completely busted and he needed that last absurd stunt to reach first place and not crash into a wall or something.

So like how nascar cars have those shitty fucking limiter plates on the engines?

@@-mixu- stop summarizing eurobeat as "Initial D", the manga/anime is cool as hell, but the style is unique at it's own, the creators such as Dave Rodgers, Ken Blast, Dream Fighters, Ace, etc. deserve some recognition! (sorry if i look like a mad gremlin, i just really want people to give those amazing composers a little more love, ya know?)

I don't even think the writing was that bad. They had to keep it a kids film, so certain situations were watered down, but they absolutely pushed the limits on that PG rating for sure. I love the whole corporate greed vs family business aspect and then also just the pure bliss that was the cinematography.

The animation is godly on this movie, its so colourfull compare to what we get to todays movie

@@tjbernahl3596 most of it is pretty good. The family dynamic between speed pops and mom is great. Same with Rex, what brings the writing down to subpar for me is the handling of Sprital and Chim Chim. Most scenes with them grind the film to a halt and when I think of the worst moments in the film, every one of them involves those two. I'm certainly not going to say I could do many better considering the circumstances. They had to be there to keep in continuity with the original series and to make sure it was a kid oriented film for Warner Bros not to mention they were the main reason the film got away with a PG rating.

How can you say the movie that gave us "more like Nonjas" had subpar writing?

@@UnkillableMrStake I agree with you that those scenes brought the film down but I don't think it's fair to hold them against it and call it the entire writing of the film "subpar". It's a kids movie, it's amazing for what it is. I think you'd be very hard pressed to find something in a similar vein (Kids action movie about racing) that's as good. If not better.

People try too hard to make it realistic instead of going the uthey way. Anime defies logic and physics, that's what makes them good

I still believe that it's because people forgot just how crazy old school anime like Speed Racer really was.

I saw it in the cinema and now it's my favourite sunday afternoon film, SO.....MUCH......COLOUR!!!!! also, every racing game i own i will have a car with the mach 5 livery....

When I saw it when it came out; I was like 17? I immediately knew it was awesome and loved it from the jump. It was SUCH a good adaptation of the series. OMG; just sooo nice. Glad to own a DVD of it.

I was 12 when this came out and from what I remember it's release was heavily overshadowed by the animated movie "Wall-E" which came out I believe just a short while after this sucks cause personally I didn't like that movie but I loved speed racer.

@@grantpalmer8818 Speed Racer wasn't THAT successful. There was supposed to be a sequel or rather a prequel to Speed Racer called "Racer X", but it never happened. Still, compared to other Live-Action Anime Movies to come from Hollywood. Speed Racer was at least semi-faithful to the anime and manga...though Speed Racer was WAY more violent in the anime/manga. Still, it had the campiness that seems to be shunned by Hollywood. Even back in 2008.

this is about the very end, climax of the movie, but the whole thing is filled with incredible colors and amazing wacky editing (imo). definitely and underrated one if you're a fan of absurd amount of color

while it it true that the middle is a bit too long and frankly cheesy, the whole movie is extremely underrated. Def watch it.
