The metal was stretched , you cut a relief that removed a slight amount of material and then then the stitch welding shrunk it more as you went and watched it through the process. Effective and efficient . I like it

I've used the shrinking tip on my stud gun and a torch with air and water. I need to give this a try. I had a bed side oil can above the wheel and i think this trick would have got me out of a bind!

A old timer welder my dad knew had told me ( when my dad introduced us because he seen I liked welding when I was a kid). Any ways the old timer told mea trick for mig or flux core welding thin body panels was to go find the biggest transformer that I can find cut the winding out wrap 10 guage wire at least 10 times the one end goes to your ground clamp and the other you clip on as your ground. What it does is lower your amps so you don't burn through as easily.. I've done that with every welder I've had and some of the smaller ones with the right wire you can lay a bead out if you want...

I got a box of crap long ago from a side trade with a shrinking disk in it... I found it pointless. The way u do it seems right on. 🎉
@OldBondoBilly

I consider it easy and accurate. Not so with a lot of other shrinking methods.
@Grimsaviour
@Grimsaviour Ай бұрын
Have you tried a shrinking tip on a panel beater? It would save you a lot of time. Couple shrinks would tighten that right up. This comes from someone who also wouldn’t use a shrinking disc, this is autobody, not metal fab. Shrinking tip is easy and much faster than all this cutting and welding and grinding.

The only thing I don't like about using flux core is having to clean off the smokey slag constantly. But it's worth it in the end. Grinding MIG welds takes forever And if you're not careful you can warp it more grinding. Learned that the hard way. But I learned. And I haven't made that mistake since

That is a damn good video. I need to buy a Billy sander and a National DA . I ordered a welder for doing that bedside I was tellin u about. What size air compressor would you recommend?
@OldBondoBilly
@OldBondoBilly Ай бұрын
If you’re not going pro, a 2hp compressor can get you buy, but you’ll need 5+hp for the National Detroit DA run efficiently

@OldBondoBilly Have you used YesWeld Flux core wire in a Harbor Freight welder? I used it in a friend's Miller & I believe best wire out there. I also suspect the primary issue w HF welders is both types of crappy wire they sell. Any thoughts?

this be the first time i have to disagree with you Billy, I guess I'm a troll but I learned in my 1961 copy of how to straighten sheet metal it tells me that with access to that back side it should be shrunk w/hammer and dolly.
