We were suspicious of our fuel situation on the truckster from the beginning and we home in on the problem in this episode by replacing the fuel pump. We also disassemble the carburetor to give is a deeper cleaning and then focus on the fuel system's components. We buy and replace new fuel line, swap out the fuel filter, install a new breather tube, and thoroughly clean the fuel tank and find a lot of debris at the bottom, contaminating the engine.

Meg, I have drawn cartoons and what not since I was a kid some sixty plus years ago, I'm seventy two as of right now.... your imagination captured the pirate perfectly and I would of been very proud to have come close to this. When I did tattoos on people, the most requested one was naked ladies an ladies wanted tramp stamps an butterflies on the "sweater puppies"... I never minded doing those as it had its rewards. If your a artist of any confidence at all, please keep drawing... Red Skelton said as a quote; if you can sign your name, then you can draw... I used to take plywood when I was a kid and find things in the grain of the wood that reminded me of something and just start from there... it got me confidence to keep going. Great job on the engine Jon... I think Kohler dropped the ball mounting a fuel system in the oil cover... a recipe for engine problems. Since the starter has been there for many years, just order a new one, keep it on the shelf after determining it is correct for this application, as it will never need changing if your ready for it. More videos kids, I look forwards to your antics

I know this is late.. and the problems have been resolved, but man that last episode was "hard to watch" when you started pulling the head off!!! I was cringing and begging you to stop and trying to tell you that the fuel pump was probably in the valve cover and that if it leaked it would feed into the oil, thinning it, and causing all kinds of issues.. like many others were when I read the comments after! Even my wife was saying "don't watch it then!" LOL .. That said.. the best way to learn something is to take it apart and put it together again. Great job guys and I am really happy Willy is alive again!!!!

Great work! The starter thing not engaging every time is called a Bendix. You can check it out for yourself, but it can be greased and get more use out of it but if you just bring the starter to a starter/alternator shop it can be rebuilt fairly cheap. And if it strands you out in the woods just tap the starter a few times with the handle of a screwdriver. Sometimes that works believe it or not. Looking forward to seeing the garden btw.. 😎 P.S. If it rains on Willy would that give you - a Wet Willy!?

Awesome job with the pirate painting Meg. No wonder John says your special. These Cushman Utility vehicles must've been the very first side by side made. They look to be better built back then. I've owned products with Kohler engines probably 40 years, and I can attest their a very resourceful and tuff engine. So glad Willy is mended. You both did good.

I don't remember cleaning the fuel system on my Kohler being that much fun. That fuel contamination is a real pain and it would have come back to haunt you time after time. Now that the fuel system is clean, you should be good to go for a long time. However, the more equipment you acquire the more you will find yourself working on it. An old farmer once told me that the only time you won't have to work on equipment is if you never use it. Keep trudging forward!

HOORAY WILLY IS FIXED. Wow that was a LOT of fuel in the sump. Re the Starter, it is the Bendix playing up. The gear on the end of the starter that throws into the flywheel. You could take it off and grease it up, might give you more time before needing to change it. Well done with all your adventures. I just love the long videos, and the way you explain what you have found that will help others in their adventures. Once I get my Garage built I have an Ironhead to re build, and a Ride on Lawn Mower 🙂

Oil was definitely getting into the engine and mixing with oil via that loose diaphragm since it's under the valve cover. I also suspected the needle and seat, but that little test u did ruled that out. Nice job sorting it 👍

Happy Mother's day Meg! Hopefully Jon is taking care of you well! Jon, you've probably got willy fixed by now but I was thinking about the issue this weekend. Fuel lines are going across the engine either in front where it pinches or in back where it's too hot. The length may also be what causes the fuel pump to wear out early. What if you would move the gas tank to the other side - could easily weld angle iron on the bottom for the bracket. That would shorten the line for less stress on the pump and keep the lines from getting pinched.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryce! Never thought about the length of line being an issue, but that makes a lot of sense. I actually sized it down to 1/4 vs 5/16 so everything was a bit tighter. That's the size hose the fuel pump came with. The area you're referring to is where the exhaust shoots out the side and where the battery is. That fuel line seems like an afterthought and it's one thing I don't care for, regarding design. Hey, side thought, did my email get to you about the snatch blocks?

Good job Jon. Your going to know everything about Cushmen scooters if you have very many more breakdowns. How did the wood chips get in the tank. Was from the outside of the gas can. Neat turtle. Your road is looking really good too. Your hard work is showing good progress. One thing you might do is put a shut off in your fuel line. If it’s off the gas can’t ever drain back into your oil. Your adventure is doing us all good. We are learning right along side you. Later

That IS your fuel pump and here's the thing to keep in mind. Kohler no longer uses that style of pump due to the problems you have been having. They now use vacuum pumps or electric pumps depending on the model and capacity of the motor. Good job John and Meg. Get a vacuum pump and be done with it.
@WalnutsandWineberries
@WalnutsandWineberries Жыл бұрын
I switch it to a vacuum pump in episode 96, John. It hasn't given me a problem since. I actually have a zero turn with a kohler engine and noticed they used the vacuum style on their newer engines, so I made the switch 👍

Just FYI, the normal convention is the left of anything on most American vehicles is (from) the driver's side......no idea on a Cushman, it sometimes matters ordering parts or on torque diagrams. You can buy an 8 point wrench for those square bolts. They did that back in the day so you couldn't round the corners on a normally greasy bolt. Those rockers don't look adjustable, and you don't normally adjust the actual springs (shims maybe?), you probably have hydraulic lifters.

Nice work on the cleanup and paint job. The missing instrument on the panel always bothers me when it's in the shot. Maybe you could add a GPS or something for a more classy look. I was in Dubai on a job and they had Gyros like in aircrafts (artificial Horizons) on their off road vehicles so they could tell when they were getting near a tip-over limit in the sand dunes. Something like that would be useful and add a professional appearance.

You are going to have to change the oil again or you can burn out the bearing's the amount of fuel washes out oil from the residual gas and can just destroy the lower half. I know sounds funny but won't be the little bit of fuel left is still breathing down the dirt inside the motor.

same same with my dad only I didnt get new tools I got his old ones when he bought new until at 13 he said I was doing a mans job around the farm and so I would get a mans wage $35/w Then he took back the $20 bill saying $10 r&B $10 in bank. sp my real raise was just $5 as before that I got $10/w He also said I had to buy my own cloths. A good shirt went for $1.50 and jeans at same 5 of them every yr and $2.00 dress shirts for school 5 each along with 5 slacks for same at same. Underwear was 5 for a $ and socks u could get at same So that was really not that big of expanse. It was the new suit for church that hit hard it was $25 I had out grown my old one. I got no taller than when I was at 13 so never bought another one as when I came home form VN I stop wearing that capitalist crap So to get back to tools I began buying myself new ones then. First was a set of sockets a craftsmen's 65 piece Cost was $38 and change Still have it and all its pie3ces I dont loose tools b/c I use pockets to keep them in when not in box, Ya anything that will fit goes in pockets. # 2 rule to keep tools is nver loan them out. If someone wants to use my tools I go with them. Another hand is always welcome.

That's a pretty cool story. Thanks for sharing it. God bless you! Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3 KJV But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8 KJV Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Corinthians 15:1‭-‬4 KJV For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Romans 3:23‭-‬26 KJV But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Romans 5:8‭-‬11 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8‭-‬9 KJV Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1‭-‬2 KJV That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9‭-‬10 KJV
