Hey everyone in todays video I show you how I set up my chains on all of my builds. This bike was a perfect example of a new build that’s got some miles and needs a little adjustment on the chain. Super easy video to understand but if there’s anything I could have done better please let me know

Hey Keegan. I tried Tony Taylor's suggestion to groove the hub and ended up ripping out 5 spokes in one trip to town and 13 miles to get home with no one to give me a ride and went 12mph and did make it back and destroyed the hub. Long story short, now l'm looking for another wheel. I have to admit the hub is a cheap Walmart Genesis Bike. Good thing about it, l had to learn to replace spokes and true wheels, which is simpler than it seems, but now the hub is bent and though I trued the wheel, the sprockets on both sides wobble.😥🤔😅😁😭 Another good video Keegan. Thanks again.

Wow man that’s very unfortunate I hope you can find another wheel. I got a set of wheels one time from the local junkyard and to my surprise they were perfectly true and all I had to do was clean them up a bit and I through them on the bike! I never really liked hub adapters but it was the easier option on my hyper. I couldn’t get my rag joint to work with that bike because at the time I didn’t know you could cut the rubber washers in half to give that perfect chain line.

@@keeganhache6667 Really, never heard of cutting a hub washer in half? How do you do that?

With a very sharp box cutter knife big shout out to la hover did it on his bike that’s where I got the idea and it’s in his video about building the yd100 trail bike. When he was mounting the 56tooth sprocket onto it he was having issues where the sprocket wasn’t lining up right.

@@keeganhache6667 hey I noticed you mentioned you had to cut the rag joint on your hyper, why did you have to do that? I have a hyper too and I’m having a little bit of a chain issue with mine so I was wondering why you did that and if you could link the video to LA’s video if you wouldn’t mind. Thanks.

You should’ve drilled and tapped a set screw into one of the sides of the hub adapter

Great chain suggestion. Ive actually found the best way to keep the chain thoroughly tensioned is by ditching the tensioner and instead using a half link and positioning the wheel on the horizontal dropouts to correctly tension the chain. It works wonders.

Nice thanks for the suggestions I will definitely order some of those also I could use the chain adjusters off my pocket bike. I don’t ride it to much lol she’s a little to small. Happy new year!

Great video. I actually just had an issue last night. I had to add links to my chain, which wasn't a good idea lol. I had done it before with no issue, but this time it twisted my chain and wrapped up in between the sprocket and spokes/wheel. Side note. Just switched chains today from a 415 (which it came with) to a #40 and to be honest I thought I might have trouble because of the size of the links, but so far so good! I'm a lot more confident with the #40s size not snapping also.

Like a million other bikes you restrict the chain to a tiny little pinched-off area by the tensioner and that is a source of major friction and a very bad design.Give the chain a better path to follow and wake up! You would benefit from further study about Chains.
@keeganhache6667
@keeganhache6667 Жыл бұрын
Yes it does take up more friction but I think it guides the chain very well and plus it’s easier to adjust on the fly

Remove spark plug socket to install chain. Also those 6mm tensioners are junk. If you torque those bolts the individual straps will bend and touch back piece and provide no grip. The tensioner will walk into the chain during starting procedure. Need to find older one with 8mm bolts preferably one with 4 bolts

Good stuff! Made a video 2 weeks again about braking your chain! Good stuff, brother 👏 💪 🙏. Great info on the sprocket. That up and down movement will kill your chain as well. Keep the videos coming my man!

Thanks man I saw your video about the chain as well. Sometimes y’a just get lucky and it comes apart super easy. But I had one that I literally had to drill out the chain pin because it was rusted in

@Keegan Hache ooooooooo! Yes, I have been lucky so far! Thanks for the watch, brother! Hey, what lubricant do you use on your chains ⛓️ ? I rock 🪨 🎸 WD-40 but, I feel like there must be something better?
@keeganhache6667
@keeganhache6667 Жыл бұрын
@@grendelsgarage9723 yeah the standard wd40 isn’t that good of a lubricant I recommend the WD-40 specialist bicycle chain lube. Make sure to get the dry conditions one because it will repel dust well if you ride in rainy conditions get the wet type. It’s only nine dollars a bottle and it will last you 2 to 3 months.

The best thing is to either get a set of mag wheels or a mtb wheel and bolt the sprocket to the disc brake hub

You could just pull the clutch in lock and feed the chain I to the top of the sprocket and use the same hand to spin the sprocket from the bottom and the chain follows without taking anything apart
@keeganhache6667
@keeganhache6667 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely an option but I find it easy to just take it off that way your not trying to feed the chain in such a small spot also in my experience you will get a chain lockup if you use this method because you can’t see if the chain is binding up on the case.

Move to smaller sprockets, move tensioner further back, take links out your chain. Get spring tensioner up at the front

I have gotten the chain on and off using a long zip tie on the end and pulling it through with the clutch in so I didn’t need to take the plate off

Hey you need to have the closed end of the link clip going towards the other way (you installed it wrong.) That way if anything hits it, it won't go flying off.
