I have looked at so many videos on how to reattach my blade engagement spring. The old one broke and I had no idea what hole it was supposed to hook in to. The rest of it was still attached so easy to follow but the spring broke in half and was completely gone. This was the easiest video to follow.

Your PTO spring comes out a lot easier than mine. I had messed with it for like 30 minutes before looking up this video. I finally realized if I slid the deck back, I could get the spring under a bar and a higher angle then it popped right out. I have the Bronco, it's basically the same model, I think the engine is the only thing different. And apparently the bar that was in my way, I didn't see it on yours. Also the hook on your PTO looks smaller. Mine was re-manufactured so maybe they put some different pieces on it. I got it off though, blades changed, this video showed me I needed a higher angle - work smarter, not harder - very helpful.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you are right. Bigger engine is the main difference. Glad you got it figured out and glad I could help!

You are a perfect example of why some people [definetly not you] need to never make another educational small engine mechanics video ever again!! I can only guess you will have very smart children... and why other people just won't!...lol I am very impressed with your ability convey your message to other people exactly how to get this job done. @@fixitFlip No problem. The compliment is well deserved. I watch a lot of you tube and use it to do many projects i wouldn't otherwise do. So, i been trying to get this mower deck back on after someone else took it apart and your video was simplified to the point that i now know exactly what i need to do tomorrow at first day light! But i started watching different videos about this mower deck a few weeks ago and not a single one was even close to being as good as yours was just to the point. Seriously, go watch some of these other videos and compare them to your own. It could only help you to see what exactly you are doing that is so right. Maybe go look up some subject you don't already know. Then you wil know what i mean. Thanks again.

recently with the help of one of your videos I was able to install new spindles on my Pony. The old spindles I took off were the ones that came on the mower and they did not have grease fittings but the new ones I put on do have grease fittings. Are new spindles like this full grease and the grease fittings are just to allow you to make sure they can be kept full of grease or are they totally empty when you get them requiring you to fill them with a grease gun before you use them for the first time? If you could comment on this I would appreciate it. I didn't see anything on the box or any instructions mentioning anything about this. Thanks again for your help.
@fixitFlip

The ones that come on the mower are "maintenance free." The ones that come with zerks should have grease in them out of the box, but it never hurts to top them off just in case. I've seen a lot of goofy things come out of factories.

I just went through all this and when I went to put the deck back on, it ended up with one end being further back than the other. To where the levers that attach to the deck to lift it up and down only matched on one side. I don't know if attaching the idle spring first made it pull to one side more causing the deck to be slightly diagonal, but it started pouring rain and I had to detach everything and will have to try again tomorrow.

I'm not sure exactly which rod you are talking about, but check out my drive belt video. I show a lot of shots under the mower. Maybe you can identify the part and where it goes. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbppgLtizsjPaWQ.html

@fixitflip OK I got a question I have same lawnmower I did everything as you mentioned in this video and yes I got the spring back on where it needed to go but for whatever reason when I go to drop my blades to start cutting nothing seems to work right? Any suggestions? I did everything exactly as you did in this video but something is not allowing my blades to turn on when I’m ready to cut?

Hmmm got to be something with the PTO unless something is up with the seat safety switch. Or it is in reverse.

That cable and spring are tricky, no doubt. I had to torque the cable around in its clasp quite a bit to get it to let go. Then I couldn't get enough play to get the spring unhooked. Just moved the deck back an inch and I got it. I expect it will be a trick to get that back together. The rest should be a snap.

COME ON MAN the belt will come off the pully without taking off the guard it will give just enough to go past and on again without stressing the guard metal, put a little lift on mower deck and the weight wont be an issue to push out pins , pto cable is long enough to slide deck just past mower and remove without cutting wrist when it comes lose underneath just saying the rest is what i do as well

This is a hella lot easier than I even thought it would be. I've done a belt without removing the deck, but the guy doing that video also changed his blades with the deck on. This seems like it would be far easier for that, and you may as well hit it with the pressure washer while it's off. In my case, I'll probably have to replace the spindles. They're kinda stiff and I expect that's why I burned up not just the old belt but the new one, too. Sucks, because the spindles are about $75 a pop.

I try to do videos on different ways of doing things to show people all of their options. I pressure wash my deck every year as well. Going to do a video on cleaning and painting the deck soon.

@@fixitFlip Well, I sure do appreciate concise but comprehensive DIY vids like this. Thanks!!! Hoping I can save the spindles, but I don't even know if lubricant is getting to where it needs to go. And they are probably sealed bearings anyway. Someone posted a vid about drilling into them with a Dremel and inserting a grease fitting. Seems like a great way for someone like me to completely ruin the things, LOL!
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 3 жыл бұрын
@@ericschmitz5119 Yeah, mine has "maintenance free" spindles. But they don't last as long as the ones you can grease. But I have also seen the video on Steve's Small Engine Saloon where he shows that even if you just drill into the spindle, you are still not getting oil where it needs to go on these types of spindles. You have to open the inside up.

@@fixitFlip Knew there was a reason I bookmarked this. Just came in very handy a second time. I had to untangle a long piece of cable that it tried to gobble up a couple days ago! This really is an easy process. The only step that gave me fits was getting the PTO cable out of its bracket. BTW, turns out the spindles weren't sticking. The deck was off and PTO disconnected (of course), leaving the pulley brakes engaged. Once I got it back together, they were spinning with no problem.

Did you move the mower deck toward the back to get more room with the PTO cable? There's a brass colored rod above it preventing me from raising it up.

I did not. I only have the deck belt right above it.

@@fixitFlip , if I had this problem, others may as well. I had positioned the PTO in the on position which made it shorter. I had a somewhat rounded off nut and couldn't get it off. It sat with WD40 for a couple of days while I got a 15/16th socket. Looking back on it, deepwell sockets aren't the way to go for this as they may tilt. With the deck off and on its side, piece of wood and clamp to keep the blade from moving, breaker bar and setting it at about the 10 o'clock position, it allowed me to push down with my weight. After a couple of tries, it popped and came loose. I hope this helps someone else. Being on the side like a clock, you can simply push down or now have lots of room to add an additional pipe to the breaker bar.
@fixitFlip
@fixitFlip 2 жыл бұрын
@@southernguy35 Ahh, yes, that would do it! I always turn PTO off before turning the mower off so never had to deal with that. I go over that wood and clamp method in a couple of my videos like this one here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hr16ibxy3pudf2g.html

Hey, Travis. Just look on here for videos about how to change your Drive Belt. I will warn you, its not an easy job. The deck belt is easy, but there's not a super easy way to do the drive belt. I haven't done a video on that yet, but there are some on YT.

Should not be super tight but not loose either if that makes sense. The belt guards should keep it on. If it's loose it could be maybe the tensioner spring is stretched out.

I’ve just bought a new pony and the deck has scallop wheels on it like the bronco. Also has a bigger motor. I wonder if the deck mechanics are the same? There are zero videos on the newest pony. The deck wheels are a clear difference when looking.

Yes, I just looked at a manual for the brand new Pony. It does have a couple new features like the deck wheels but the deck adjustments are the exact same as in my video. The lock nut in the front for front to back adjustment and the adjustment gear on the side for side to side leveling.
