I clicked on a video. This had to be mid to late, 2019. Joey was on a bike, wearing a helmet. He was loud and talking about, you gotta get up, wash your pussy and get out the house." All while taking hits off of a pipe. I remember thinking, "who the fuck is this?" By the time the end of 2020 hit, I had pretty much listened to all of The Church. I listened to a lot of Joey, while not working, for a year. He became something of a father figure. I followed him when he started The Joint. I'm still a regular listener. I also like to watch him on the show Ari used to do. A hell of a storyteller!

When I first found Joey on the Rogan podcast a few years ago and heard his stories and heard how funny he was I instantly related. I’m a Chicago kid who grew up a lot like Joey and done a lot of dumb shit too and the way Joey speaks his mind reminds me of a lot of regular dudes who are funny as fuck but will never give or shit or have the chance to tell jokes and stories to an audience. I’m thankful for Uncle Joey

I got to see Joey at the comedy store several times and once in Sacramento. He was incredibly funny every time but at the Sacramento gig i finally understood what people meant when they said someone killed. Almost the entire room was laughing at that level where it's almost hysterical and there's tears in your eyes and either your stomach or your cheeks hurt. His energy was like a freight train rolling down a hill collecting all of us as it went like some sort of fucked up comedy katamari.

Maybe its just one of those things where you have to be in the room. I heat crazy shit about how funny he is but I don't get it. I don't see how he could be compared to Patrice either. I've been to comedy shows and it is different than watching a video of a set. Maybe that'd be where the magic is.

I saw him in San Jose once and he was stoned beyond belief from edibles and we were in the crowd chanting "Joey, Joey" because this dude was lost and forgot where he was at one point and was in dire need of encouragement and recalibration lol. Then sometime after highschool I kinda started to censor myself out of fear that people wouldn't want me around. Then I was stumbling home drunk one night and heard rogans best of joey diaz part 1. I fondly remember not being able to breathe and looking around Stand Up Live in phx.....I was mesmerized...the entire crowd was in pain with laughter....AND THEN from that moment he somehow managed to ramp it up even more... the guy is a mythical creature when it comes to the art of comedy

Patrice was one of those comics that in a room of comics he was the funnies guy in the room making everyone laugh(and feel nervous if he's going to call you out). Just his off stage stuff alone is genius level. Like a Joey Diaz or even now we're seeing in Tim Dillon. Who imo is becoming a master as sarcastic comedy. Maybe the best today at sarcasm. Dude can do whole podcasts being totally sarcastic. Man I love comedy.

I actually think Patrice would enjoy Dillon's work a lot. Both New Yorkers too. In terms of wit, I think its reasonable to compare the two (or three)- Patrice, Joey, and Dillon are all just different flavors- cant really say one is better than the other- especially on a podcast format. They also represent three different generations of comedy from basically the same area.

Joey is madly unique, dude had almost everything go wrong in his life, made a lot of bad decisions and was put in postions that not anyone can handle. Yet he survived and is a much better person than other people who even lived a better life. Some people who went through similar shit like that are either killers or bat shit insane and some just resort to self harm but joey was one of them special kind. Glad Rogan saw what Joey really was inside and loved the dude unconditionally.

@@bikezthenightstalker.3134 Joey isn't remotely near the same galaxy as Patrice if we're talking about comics. I like Joey but his schtick is his voice, New Jerseyisms, and vulgar wit, which I'm not puting down, but Patrice was a different level of genius when it came to comedy and someone who was just hilariously insightful about literally any subject or debate. He is in my Big 3 comics of all time with Carlin and Norm because Patrice's comedic brilliance was oriented around the idea of "full of shitness" (as he termed it) and making complete fun of it which is what the best comics ever explored IMO. I was a longtime O&A fan since around 2005, I actually first discovered Patrice on Colin's Tough Crowd show a few years before that when O&A was still suspended off the air until they got their XM deal, and all these years later, I'm still so grateful to KZfaq Patrice's appearances on there to listen to a someone who was clearly a next level of lightning fast wit, fucking hilarious insightfulness, and delivery. When Patrice sadly passed away, Norm himself even tweeted how we lost the funniest person on the planet which as high praise anyone could have. I'm still guilty of sharing the same sentiment of "man I wish Patrice was still alive to know what he'd say about this...." because so many of us do the same shit because he never disappointed in life.

When I was like 16, I read a line from a Hunter Thompson book, maybe fear and loathing or the rum diaries, but he says something like I always knew from a young age I was destined to live in the fringes of society, and he would use it to his advantage . And it resonated with me hard. That‘s the strength in the outside that Andrews talking about. There’s opportunity in a path less traveled.

I fully didn't notice that Rogan was wearing the hilarious cheesecutter hat until 7 minutes in. I once worked at a supermarket.... one day a guy managed to put a whole cooked chicken and a big bag of pick and mix lollies down his pants. He started fighting at the checkout, and I had to help drag him upstairs to the security room. The security guard was a large man with that same hat. "I have to feed my kids!" He yelled. "You and your cheese cutter hat!"..... Me and my friend hid behind the door laughing our heads off when he said it. That same security guard later hit on my wife and decided to throw down with me in that same office years later. As we rolled around on the floor with me beating his face in, a lady from the office next door knocked on the door. "Is everything allright? she said, looking at the golf ball sized lump growing on his forehead. "It's personal." He said and shut the door. I had to put it all down in writing and report it, because I knew they would have no security guard for a few weeks. The poor sod had to write me an apology, and I convinced the management to let him stay. Classic.

I heard many of their bits, Joey Diaz became a comedian late. Yes he’s funny! Patrice was doing this since teenage years, to this day people say “I wish Patrice was here to give his comments on the world” ..and yet we still have Joey.. so it’s not a comparison. Patrice is up there with Dave, he was even on the face Chappell show

Lol agreed. Can’t believe hearing ‘Joey is such a great guy’…. Dude admitted to forcing several women suck his dick to get stage time, has an active xanax addiction but claims to be sober, and is a god damn slob of a human. He’s not funny at all and not a good guy. He’s lucky AF Rogan pimps him constantly
