I knew Danny as a teenager sitting in his parent's basement writing the songs you guys heard years later in life. For me, I watched the whole circle become complete, from his dream of wanting to be famous and have people love his music to the reality of it. I feel like I was blessed to experience his journey as his heartfelt friend. You guys have no idea what it is like for me to know him before he was ill to seeing him suffer through it all and now he is gone. I hope to see him again in Heaven. I know he is there.

@@aaronspoor6425 Honestly, it was a moment that I never forgot and a glimpse into his future. I remember being in the basement with him and under the stairs or next to the stairs was a small room. In it Danny had created a world all his own filled with his eccentric art. I remember a baby doll head he had hung up on the wall and made it his own with his style of art. I was soon to leave for the Air Force and visited him. He showed me his creative talant in his room which was a step into his world. I never forgot this..I looked around the room at all the stuff he created and knew he was differnt than everyone else. We looked at each other eyes to eyes and I wondered to myself "What will become of him" as I knew he was so eccentric he had his own world he lived in and it wasn't the same as the one we live in. Before this time was when he made me the tape and a poster. I seen him one more time and he showed another guitar playing friend I had his music. He moved to Austin after that and I went into the service. I heard he had a break down and his mother was looking for me thinking if he had his friend back it would help him pull himself together. Growing up with Danny, we didn't realize he had mental health problems. We thought he was really cool and could draw really well and enjoyed his music. We had a lot of fun. Another time he was staying all night at my house, my Mom made chilli for dinner. He said it looked like vomit. My Dad was always a serious ass. He got mad at Danny for that, but I thought it was hilarious.

Me and my baby’s mom split up a few months back and I gotta tell you, that line hits me the hardest but mostly because I’m taking it hard still, but in some weird way also, I feel like he’s telling me not to be sad himself.

DJ was a mad scientist whose experiments re-defined what music can sound like. The documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" is a testament to his genius. If you haven't seen it, stop whatever you're doing and watch it. Btw, Flaming Lips=one of the most overrated bands in the history of overrating.
