Scoring a copy of Portraits of America at a thrift shop was one of my greatest finds. Before I knew anything about Allard I could see they were fantastic photos. So perfect they almost look staged; so genuine they almost jump out of the pages. Thanks.

He is well-known. But art critics don't pay attention to photojournalists who take artistic photos.

@@yeohi Quite conventional National Geographic type photos. Decent photojournalism but not exceptional. Hutterites, again. The Amish, Mennonite? Kind of a cliché before you set out with a camera. Empathy, well... sorta. Lots of pictures of kids. That's not exceptional empathy either. Flaneur? Just because there are a few photos through glass into restaurants in Paris.

I first learned of Willian A. Allard during the late 80's or 90's, on National Geograpic Magazine. They used to give a segment on their photographers in the show. I was always seeing who would be next. Mr. Allard was one of the first ones to be featured and he was great. I loved him and work from the word go. He is a real character. Thank you Joel. You are always very consistent with artist you show case for us all. God Bless you, take care and well wishes to you sir. Roger

Allard, the flâneur, is in the magical place between snapshot and studio. It's where the magic happens and this fellow finds the magic, he can put the lightening in the bottle. His comprehension of light and composition and color always delight me. Genius. Flâneur, we do not yet have the word in English, just like connoisseur.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. He used to use dye transfer technique to print and achieve such saturated colors.
