Very similar set up. Man, being 5’ll I find the A/T Habitat way up there. I have my dog trained to get on the mattress to deploy it. I use clamps to ratchet it down while closing. To be honest alone in icing conditions I avoid fall hazards and just sleep in the bed.

I could do with a solo trip, one of these days... Yes would love to see some homesteading videos. My wife is leaning that way. You may inspire us to go for it, or not go too crazy with it (too much land).

Wife and I just bought 8 wooded acres in north central Ohio and have been so busy renovating the barn (to live in by late summer) that I haven’t even done any tenting yet. Got to dig a fire pit and pitch a tent and sleeping bag. Outside my Gladiator. Btw: what brand of trousers are you wearing??

@@SwellRunner well let me tell you I used to have Decked Drawers but I sold them. Now I have Cabinets and I really wish I still had my drawers! Knowing what I know now, I would build a U-shaped bench on top of the drawers. That would give lots of storage that is accessible and supply nice seating that could be used to sleep on with the roof closed. (in a major storm). I also want a pass through some day.

Probably the fjallraven vidda pro - and yes I'd highly recommend them. They're expensive, but I still have my first pair (5 years old with holes in them). I have several pairs - it's the only pants I wear.
