I was interested in this printer but decided to go with the k1. I do like it more. However, the fact that Flashforge used klipper and locked it down and then told everyone it was not klipper turned me off. Now, creality was not much better, mind you, but eventually gave in and gave us root access. Once they did that, I picked one up. The crazy sales also helped. Lol. I have had it now for about a week and I am very happy with it. Once you unlock and install full mainsail or fluidd, it is an amazing printer. I use Orca slicer, and it's now a beast of a little printer. The k1 has now turned into my favorite go-to printer, and I have 4 printers. Keep up the great work, Aurora. You are my favorite review channel by far and are the most objecting and detailed reviewer out there. Thanks

You have done it again! An amazing review highlighting the hardware features including the 0.6mm dia. hardened nozzle - speed anyone? I am not sure how many of your viewers recognize/understand your expert level of software and coding experience; I do hope so. Again, if Flash Forge listen, the next release should get these "cons" sorted. I don't think the loss of 30mm in Z axis is as big an issue as you but your point is taken. To me, this printer is a candidate for a prototype fast printer with the 0.6 mm nozzle with engineering grade filaments but it might be awkward given the code cloak.

I found the glue is not necessary if you increase the build plate temperature for pla. They have it only at 50c. Going to 60 or 65 is rock solid. And I got the non pro version, which is just as fast and merely lacks the enclosure (which they provide the stls to print your own), camera (which I found for $25 from their site), and that nice filtration and only a single nozzle, for $299. And there is a modified version of orca slicer that can wirelessly send to it. Very impressed.

Thank you for the review. I was seriously considering one of these until I found out that they had locked down Klipper, and made it impossible to print over the LAN without using their slicer. What's more, you cannot even import a gcode file from Orca into their slicer to upload. Given that they are openly disrespecting the very open source software community that they are benefitting from, I voted with my wallet and it was a hard pass.

Amazing channel and great effort to bring light to the world of 3d machines. I study this printer and looked like it is "the one", i was considering it not for the crazy speed but for the advertised low noise and air filtration. I was willing to sacrifice some speed for the low noise ....but it seems this is not the case. I would greatly apreciate if there can be tested various settings for "quaiet speeds" and the quality of air complemented by a very thorough ranking for under 40db with no squiks or wislles....it could attract a lot of niche clients. I have the AD5M (non-pro), got it a couple of days ago and love it. I feel like the only downside compared to the pro is the lack of enclosure, which can be custom made if you really want it, and not necessary for most materials, and the lack of camera. Which you can get one and hook up to the USB port and view from your PC if you have a webcam laying around. I feel like at the price point, it's pretty hard to do better. Being a Core XY with a very solid frame, this thing runs circles around my M5C, and it would be an insult to it's honor to even compare to other the other printers I've owned. Also I really like that pen holder that looks like a set of tires, if anybody knows where I could get the STL, I would appreciate it 😅

Although many tinkerers like to spend time working with the printer, I am of the camp that spends time on my design and want simple send and print. What slicer it uses is not that important to me as long as it takes minimal time to set up the print and it achieves the print. This one is getting serious consideration from me. Looks like the proprietary slicer is the way to go for less hassle. Thanks for the great in depth review.

My biggest complaint is the 220mm height and the locked Klipper. Even if they just would open Klipper so I can use it with my Orca Slicer over network this would be already the best machine for the price on the marked even with the more expensive Nozzles. I also really don´t get why they wouldn´t increase the height, they could have gone up to 260mm and this would be a selling point, it basically doesn´t cost anything to do so, the slighly longer profiles etc are in the cents range for material costs.

So currently? K1C or 5M pro? Both are similar in price (K1C=550 euros vs 5M pro 530 euros)..

I'm still researching and deciding on my first 3d printer. My first choice would be the X1C, followed by P1S and then i think this FlashForge. It's pretty impressive especially for these price.

@@jeremyglover5541 I agree, but for people like me, who want the printed parts for engineering stuff as fast and easy (and cheap) as possible, and not want to mess around with the printer, the bambu have been a game changer for me. But if something better comes up in a few years I have no loyalty to bambu, the new top printer from FLsun looks very interesting as well, I have the V400 that is very capable if you put in the time to dial it in, the new printers should come with their own slicer, that could make it a true competitor to bambu, maybe even on some points.

The better bet is to get the 5M Non Pro. its only $299 and is just missing the fan and enclosure...thats the only difference. and you can buy the fan and also print the enclosure and buy the plastic door and hood if you want.

The 3D community owes a huge Thanks to Bambu Labs. As another obvious clone of the X1C that's a good value with great performance. The quick change nozzle is a nice touch that I would like to see Bambu offer. We as users are the winners with all of these new high speed printers. Well done Aurora, and whats his name..

thats exactly what I would say@@cameltoast and klipper. people act like bambu are groundbreaking. the AMS is the only thing that is unique to them and you wouldnt catch me using it for anything except housing multiple rolls of the same filament. its incredibly wasteful and a massive time sink. Its true Bambu did scour the world for good ideas and package them well, but they did so at a suspiciously low cost and you only have to look as far as the slicer and network security to find the answer how its that cheap ...

Man, all the commenters in this comment section acting like enclosed printers, CoreXY, 3 screw Z-axis for beds (not independently driven on Bambu though), and input shaping didn't exist before BambuLabs came along. All of this stuff was on RatRigs and Voron Tridents long before, and specific elements were on other manufacturer's printers as well. While BambuLabs may have been the first commercially successful company to package a number of pre-existing open-source technologies together, excepting for perhaps their specific AMS system, all of their technology is entirely derivative and predates the release of their printers by many years. The reality is that the 3D printing community owes its thanks to all the hardworking innovators who developed this stuff openly such that various companies were able to use said technologies to provide for mass market adoption.

8:04 - "WiFi is not supported if you are not using FlashPrint." FAIL I expected this printer to be twice the price from FlashForge so kudos for delivering a fast printer with excellent print quality (solid hardware design plus input shaping) at such a competitive price, but the 5M Pro would really shine if it used standard Klipper with all of those advantages, including printing easily over WiFi from PrusaSlicer or a Fluidd web browser tab. Impressive number slider, ABS crate, TPU wallet and clearance test prints. The 5M Pro definitely has the goods and the hardware is very capable. It's a shame it's limited by proprietary firmware.

Sure, "proprietary firmware" my ass. They took Klipper and they called it their own, keeping the code closed. They don't deserve any respect or money.

Not now, but when it becomes open source, we can add Moonraker so that direct WiFi printing will be supported for all slicers. For now, you still need to save the G-code and upload it manually using the web interface or use a USB drive to print offline.

WiFi has been an issue on almost all of their printers for some time. However, I've seen their slicer software having more issues than the printer in this area. I've had to restart Flashprint in order for it to "find" the printer successfully via automatic lookup. Also printing over WiFi using OrcaSlicer should be working in the latest release if you configure the WiFi settings in the slicer for the printer, at least that is the claim from the devs (I haven't confirmed yet). Flashforge is also working with the OrcaSlicer team to fine tune the profiles a bit further, the ones in 1.8.0 are not too bad but still have some room for improvement

I had one of these for a couple weeks. Every print I tried to slice using variable layer height in orca slicer failed by coming un-stuck from the bed. I returned it and got a Prusa mini and only had one failed print because the filament was stuck together on the roll.
