I remember a time when people said, "you guys have the internet, with unlimited knowledge. How can you not know everything." We were so naive to think that the truth would be more popular than fiction.

Internet don't give you information, you give internet information, and the only way to make you stay online and contribute more information, is to please you by showing you the information that you currently believe, which is extremely biased. Let me make this easy for you. If the earth was indeed flat, or even close to being flat, you could mount a telescope on a building in New York, and look across the Atlantic to see Big Ben in London. The actual line of sight between those two points is a straight line that enters the ocean before the horizon and continues until it is thousands of feet below the surface, and continues in that straight line until it reaches Big Ben. A flat earth would mean that line of sight would never enter the ocean.

What Makes Real Science - Passing The Scientific Method - Nothing in Science is ever supposed to be considered Verified unless it passes the method.. Agreed? If something does not pass the scientific method, it Cannot be Taught as Fact.. isn't that what the method teaches? It Is. I have studied it for over 30 years. Agreed? Now, Water has Facts or Laws that we always observe. Water always takes the shape of it's container and it Always seeks it's own level - Agreed? In the method, if a Claim is made that goes against all observable phenomena, it Must be Verified by physical empirical experimental reproduction. Agreed? It is Reasonable is it not to demand the experimental evidence that verifies the claim Agreed? Well, I don't believe the Claim we live on a spinning ball covered by water - It Cannot be recreated by experimental evidence! It does Not pass the scientific method! We Know we Don't have this experimental Proof of water covering a spinning sphere that the Method Requires! !That is Real Science According to the Scientific Method - Are you claiming the scientific method is wrong or my understanding of the method is wrong? I Challenge Anyone to prove my understanding of the method wrong so you Must concede your theory is Wrong! This is Why our numbers are growing. You people are brainwashed and Not following the Method correctly. Again, I Challenge you to prove me wrong by text in a text book that teaches the method. You Cannot best me. . By that Real Criteria, that doesn't prove a Flat Earth but it shows there is serious problems with the globe model.

+Pasta: The human mind is a wondrous thing, but also a wondrously fragile thing. We should realize very early that we should respect it, protect it, and treasure it. Much of this FE/CT issue revolves around doing just the opposite in life. The stoners from the 60s, 70s, are aging now, and reaping the "rewards" of abusing themselves. Notice that this dude has pasted this exact same comment on dozens of threads under FE vids, while never really addressing anything about how we might simply demo thru observation what shape earth actually can and cannot be. This is because his poor addled mind does not begin to examine any model when greeted by a model on a vid. He does not need to evaluate what we say, because first and foremost, earth IS flat. Everything else follows. It makes him feel special in his sad, isolated existence, to believe outrageous things about perfectly mundane, easily examined, easily settled aspects of life around him. (One could wish that he would choose something a bit less evident to go on about). The fact that everyone who knows him out here in the real word, brands him a lunatic, only makes him even more special, and noticed of God. And yes, I said it. This is EXACTLY, and sadly, what this is all about.

No the thing is the flat-earthers pretty much know the earth is round. Their real problem is that they haven't come to terms with the fact that their lives are actually empty. They have nothing giving them any sort of validation or meaning to the outside world so they're trying to find something to cling to to feel like part of them is unique and better than the others - because outside of that, the rest of them is pure emptiness. It's really, really depressing.

I think kids need to be taught the principline to not automatically believe any great claim without totally dismissing it. I think most of this bs goes through because people tend to use fear-factor or outright questioning the intelligence of hearer to make their emotions go out control. People in the mess with their own emotions are pretty easy to feed every possible information and if there are questions there are accusations of either being stupid or "sheeple". In the past if someone (usually youngster) had new idea it usually was not taken as the truth before some serious study by different peers and cross-examination. At least then the conclusion might be if not actual truth at least informed decision. During the internet time though it seems to be less appreciated that someone just disengages when hearing strange claims and is just doing right to not make it essential to their world-view over yet. Too many people seem to dismiss old disciplines merely because "it is a present now man."

The simply nature of physics and the way water behaves should be all the evidence anyone would ever need to prove that the earth is indeed a sphere. I agree there needs to be more access to science fields. I grew up with an Electrical Engineer as a father, asking questions turned into lessons in the field. I not only got to understand how and why something reacts the way it does but also the history of testing and our foundation of knowledge being applied and it working in front of me. At the age of 10 I was able to help him solve problems on wire diagrams. I find it very frustrating that people are believing in all kinds of insane non-sense.

Very true. MNy experience was somewhat different. My father was a Reverend Minister who ran three churches, so I was born and raised in the church. I realised at a very early age that there were major problems in a faith which created so much hatred in the followers of certain sub-cults, such as the CoE. As I grew older and was better able to understand what the bible actually was and what the various sub-cults believed it said I became totally disillusioned with religion and sceptical of the bible with all its contradictions etc., and by the time I left home at 16 I had also gained enough knowledge of history to understand the bible was not only self-contradictory but is not much more than misinterpretations of mistranslated and misinterpreted already discarded and disproved plagiarised myths. I then went on to pay may way through various professional and academic courses. It is very telling that whilst the current FE cult originated in the UK with Rowbotham and his biblical literalism it is now pretty well confined to the USA where primary and secondary education are a joke. According to Olivia Young, a student of astrophysics at WVU who also works as a science educator for a team funded by the US space agency, NASA, a lack of decent scientific education is part of the problem. "Not many places in West Virginia offer physics programmes in their high schools and those who do very few of them are taught by people actually trained in physics," she says. www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-49802038 As A friend from the USA commented. But they know all about snake handling in WV.

There’s always an aura of “insult” and “sarcasm” in the air when people speak of the flat earth theory rather they’re against it or not. Just because we know the terms and memorized what was taught to us, measurements and all that it doesn’t mean that all that stuff was true or correct because science for the most part are theories anyway. I think the hardest think for people to want to consider the flat earth is that it means since childhood we’ve learned and become emotionally attached to something that wasn’t true. Some of us went to school for it, we have kids now and we don’t want to teach them something that they aren’t learning in school. I take all that emotionality into affect when I hear someone who believes in the globe. They get emotionally triggered and even angry at you for believing in this

"Science for the most part are just theories anyway" 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ This slur is misleading and conflates two separate meanings of the word theory: In common usage, the word theory means just a hunch, but in science, a theory is a powerful explanation for a broad set of observations. To be accepted by the scientific community, a theory (in the scientific sense of the word) must be strongly supported by many different lines of evidence. So biological evolution is a theory: It is a well-supported, widely accepted, and powerful explanation for the diversity of life on Earth. But it is not “just” a theory.

No, they did not - just for one tiny example, Columbus and his peeps were concerned about running out of supplies, a very realistic concern, not running off some edge - also see the design of basic scientific tools of the time period such as astrolabes in which the earth is represented by a sphere - the world had been considered to be round, a spherical shape, since the Greeks (at least). There are references to the earth as a “globe” everywhere in the Middle Ages, including in the works of our best known writers of the time period. So leave the Middle Ages alone, fearthers.

On 4th December there was a total solar eclipse which was visible only in extreme South locations, particularly Antarctica. It was streamed live from the Union Glacier Base near the shores of the Weddell Sea, which is basically south of South America, on several websites including NASA's. In addition to over 70 people who travelled there to watch it, two plane loads of eclipse chasers, from Western Australia and Chile (on opposite sides of the disc) flew South to get a good view of it from 30,000 feet. It was also observed as a partial eclipse from South Africa and Melbourne. When it was observed in Australia it was just before sunset and people looked West to watch it. In contrast, folks in South Africa had to look Eastwards as it was early morning. But here's the BIG THING. The people observing it from the Union Glacier Base watched it when it was technically around midnight! At this time of the year the sun doesn't set in Antartica. It just goes around in circles about 15 degrees above the horizon. And to film the eclipse, the cameras streaming it were pointed SOUTH! Over the South Pole! In the opposite direction to the "centre of the disc"! When totality was happening over Antarctica, it was around noon in India. The sun would have been at it's highest in the Indian sky. How is all of this, happening MORE OR LESS SIMULTANEOUSLY, explainable in the flat earth model? Try mapping this out on the flat earth disc! Then there is the stunning "eclipse over Antarctica" image from the NASA climate satellite, orbiting around a million miles from earth, that photographed the totality shadow over the Weddell Sea. You can clearly see how the global earth model clearly explains this in it's entirety. What will flat earthers say to explain this? All fake? How? Why?

@Gra Ra5 I agree, but beside all of that they still can be demonic beings, or at least demon's servants. I'm familiar with one case of devil worshiping. My colleague at work (law firm) was pretty ambitious and he progressed very much in his career in very short period of time. But his advancement started to happen just after he changed his name into Xabaras Suleiman Hassan. Be advised "Xabaras" is not an usual Urdu name and it's actually an anagram of Abraxas, which is an ancient name for the devil! And I can't emphasize enough how lucky he was in his job. Other colleagues even started to call him The Doctor. But I knew what he was up to and I've alerted my boss about his intentions. And my boss was also suspicious, so he thanked me for confirming his thoughts about him and then he called our religious police to conduct hisbah. The main muhtasib immediately ordered his arrest. Xabaras Suleiman Hassan is now serving the life penance in prison, and I was kind enough to admit his wife into my household. She is now my third wife and she's very nice. My boss also promoted me. Friendly reminder that those two great man of science were the first to come up with a consistent method for calculus at a time when an increasing part of the mathematical community was working on the subject AND THEY WERE EXCHANGING LETTERS ABOUT IT. Both calculus are also not equal, and indeed they complement each other well, in a way is like looking at the same object from two slightly different perspectives (not counting that Newton tried 3 different approaches, and Leibniz had already published his work by the time Newton published his final version). In the end is not that weird that people with more or less the same literacy on a subject can solve a problem at reasonable the same time (literally what a school test expects). Most of the time the ideas preceding a discovery were going around in the scientific community, and we mostly never learn about all the people who were on the verge of making the same discovery when the result was published. There are a few exceptions of truly groundbreaking shifts in perspective impulsed by one single person, but in maths at least it's easy to see that most of the material needed to produce a new result is already there before the discovery, which does give a sense of inevitability (but signals also the importance of the starting point).

This says that you would have to be 3678 km (2285 miles) away from the earth to see it as a full disk. And since 5,280 feet make a mile you multiply that times the 2,285 miles to arrive at the distance.

Can you please explain why a flat earther has never ever gone to the edge of the flat earth and taken pictures to prove that there is an edge? Can you tell me about the other planets, are they also flat? How come all of the other planets look like round globes, and their rotation can be observed? Why are all of the other planets different from our planet? What holds up the sun so that it can go around in a circle above the flat earth? What makes the sun move? What holds the moon up in the sky and why do the sun and the moon never collide as they are circling in the sky over the flat earth? Can you please explain how thick is the disk, and what is on the other side? If I drill all the way through the disk what would l see on the other side? We know that volcano's spew out molten magma but where does all of that hot magma live when it’s not actually blowing out of a volcano and what heats it up so that the rocks melt? You tell us that there is no gravity, and you tell us that everything can be explained by density and buoyancy, but how do they work without gravity? What makes a lighter thing rise, and a heavier thing fall if there is no such thing as gravity? What explains the phases of the moon and why does the moon go through the different phases every 28 days? How did the Japanese airforce manage to fly from Japan to Pearl Harbour for the attack in Sunday, December 7, 1941, this flight would need 4 times the fuel any of the planes could carry so how did they do it ? If water finds its own level how do you explain the tides? Simple mathematics and geometry for you here, at sea level at 6ft tall the horizon is 2.98miles away, with a telescope it is still 2.98miles away, just enlarged, at 250meters above sea level the horizon is 30 miles away, this alone shows curvature surely?

In my experience with Flat-earthers, I've noticed it usually comes with a heavy dose of religiosity. When you strip away the layers of it, most of them cite an extremely literal interpretation of the Bible as their reason for believing the Earth is flat. In that regard, it's basically young Earth creationism 2.0
@richrichy3015
@richrichy3015 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. To believe the earth is flat, with a protective dome over it, they would at least have to have a belief in some kind of higher power to create it to begin with. Most I have come across are bible thumpers that worship that so called "god", as well. In my opinion, if someone is to believe that the bible is the truth, it doesn't take all that much more of a leap to believe the earth is also flat.

A better education in history couldn't hurt. Americans are specifically really misinformed in general about historical processes. Ask a high school or college student in America about the American Civil War or the Vietnam War and get ready for deafening silence. Ask them their opinions of The Last Jedi, the MCU and GoT and stand back. Let alone a history of ideas. But a history of how we think what we think, provided it wasn't simply empowering niceties or accusations, has a much greater effect. I've tested this myself.
