Highly effective fish harvesting method, good to see it being used for conservation also.

At least the guy with the net is gentle with the fish.

Wait. Are they microchipping the fish that are going upstream?

They're tracking the fish the same way the government is tracking us with the glow in the dark Satan vaccine.

Why did you through them back in the river . 😕

Maybe they were either under size or they were tagging them....though not sure I am in New Zealand watching this.

We were tagging them. You'll see the guy in the brown shirt on the left go and put a yellow tag in its back. They were recaptured up at their spawning grounds and we were able to tell how long it took them to get there from where we first marked them.

Out of interest how far away are the spawning grounds and how long does it take them to get there?

Oh man, this project was like 6 years ago. There were several different lakes the fish were going to ranging from 30-70 miles from our trap (which was about 10 miles from the ocean). I don't think it took them more than 2 weeks to travel to the farthest lake.

All about conservation, sadly the way you guys throw them in the cooler is too rough.

also the only people who can fish like this live in remote alaska, need residency and do it usually to feed a dogsled team. zero commercial gain
