Flatiron Health, oncology’s “OG” RWE company, is taking its real-world data approach overseas with an international expansion and, in turn, is also expanding stateside with a newly launched suite of end-to-end real world evidence generation consulting services that augment its signature software platform. CEO Carolyn Starrett tells us what’s new and, more importantly, feeds our need for understanding the key market forces and tech trends (hello, generative AI and access to health data!) that are bolstering the market for real world data and real world evidence right now, particularly in oncology.
It’s been ten years since Flatiron was first launched, five since it became an independent affiliate of the Roche Group, and where it is now, explains Carolyn, is at an inflection point of growth. The idea that unorganized cancer data and real-world, routine clinical care data could be turned into high-quality, useful research datasets “could work” has been proven out. And, what’s ahead is what’s best summarized by their news: 1) building global datasets that expand their US-centric data to include those from around the world (starting in Japan, the UK, and Germany) and 2) productizing their analytical methods so they can help pharma clients can get smarter on how to bring new therapies to market, how those therapies should be used, and how more patients around the world can gain access to them.
So, how will Flatiron’s product-and-market expansion impact the larger real world evidence space, and the way pharma companies go about the business of building therapies and treatments in oncology? How is their tech platform (EMR-integrated and now also EMR-agnostic) evolving to meet these needs? Carolyn talks about the RWE market, challenges around inclusivity and diversity in drug development, and just can’t escape a quick conversation about the hot-topic of the hour, generative AI, which quickly goes from “good side” to “dark side.” Oooh! Watch now!
