The education system's take on tastebuds are vastly outdated. The tastes are in no way isolated to specific parts of the tongue and while it's widely known now that umami is also a taste it has been suggested there are several more, including starch, which is extremely easy for humans to identify, and fat, which has potential identified receptors.

nah i don’t think that’s true, i think more the message is that people shouldn’t ascribe themselves a role or a “flavour” unless they’ve actually tried it themselves to find out, it’s more about not letting yourself be pushed into a predefined role and actually trying out for yourself to find what you like and what your “flavour” is.
