Never, ever has a full-on, cocaine-fueled, marriage-destroying spiral of chaos and betrayal, back-biting, drama-soaked saga of things falling apart at the seams sounded so good. It's like all the members of Fleetwood Mac took everything that was going horribly wrong in their lives, poured it all into a creative distillation machine and made something so phenomenally good, they achieved the creative equivalent of the alchemical philosopher's stone. They quite simply turned lead into gold.

It is a resonator guitar, similar to and sometimes called a Dobro-often used in Bluegrass. Dobros typically have a square neck and ar played with a slide or metal bar. Resonator guitars have a rounded neck, are often used in blues, with or without a slide.

It's hard to understand exactly how HUGE this band was mid to late 70s if you weren't there. They may have stepped far away from the early more British bluesy stuff with Peter Green, but it was still a talented collection of musicians and songwriters in all the different iterations. But when Buckingham Nicks joined them years after Green left, they went to number 1 with their first album and put out 5 multi platinum albums in a row. This album actually achieved "Double Diamond" status, selling over 20 million in the US. The band had definitely been successful before Buckingham Nicks joined, with a few hits and decent album sales, but nothing like this.

Back in '77, on my tenth birthday, my father came home from a long day at work and proceeded to put a gift by my bedside so that I could wake up in the middle of the night to see it. I got up a few hours later and in the dark with my flashlight I opened up the greatest gift I have ever received for any event (but I didn't know it at the time). It was two albums (records) of the Eagles Hotel California and Rumors from Fleetwood Mac. I fell in love with both, listened to them non-stop, and to this day, I still have them sitting on my shelf and play them as much as any music I have acquired since then. This was my introduction to the music scene and the rest they say, is history. Thanks Dad!!! You were one of a kind!!!

Peter Greene's Fleetwood is special and exists in its own bubble. The self titled album and the Rumors albums are in a class by themselves in all instances. They just gelled perfectly even though by the time of Rumors they could barely stand the sight of each other. Everybody was divorcing each other but they still managed to write one of the best selling albums of all time.

I was waiting patiently for you to get to Fleetwood Mac, stick with them as the are incredible!! Stevie Nicks ( the lead female vocalist) is nothing but amazing..her voice is like no other and she has a big catalog on her own when she left the group! She is worth checking out. The album "Rumors" is genius. So many incredible songs, depicting the romantic break up between band members..mostly Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham ( lead guitarist and vocalist). They both wrote and performed songs about the other..keeping the fans fasinated and wondering how they would be able to perform such songs live in concert...but they did and it was amazing...i have personally seen them twice in concert and never disappointed. Great rabbit hole to go down.

I already see it's been mentioned in the comments, but this is considered to be one of the most iconic albums in rock music. You really should do the entire album in order. Everything on it is fire and everything on it we heard on the radio at some point. It's just one of those amazing albums. And it's certainly not considered to be later Fleetwood Mac by most people. Obviously it's not a debut album so it's later than their earlier stuff, but it is a famous album. For a reason

There are certain bands that come together in specific places and times that create music so great, that their music will last long after they are all gone. This is one of those groups. It's like they somehow hit the music lottery jackpot in 1974, and they rolled in it into the 1980s. If it weren't for Lindsey's over inflated ego, it would have gone on for a lot longer.

The sound your hearing as a banjo is actually a National metal body resonator guitar with an old school horseshoe pickup. The sound is a blend of the pickup and the guitar mic’d acoustically. Then ran through some dynamics processing with spring reverb and some modulation. Most likely a slow phaser or chorus/flange.

This song is a fascinating piece of the Fleetwood Mac puzzle. As has been well documented, the band's two couples were in the middle of break ups. AFAIK it's the only one credited to all 5 members. Apparently they took pieces of different half written songs from Buckingham, Nicks and C McVie, and then the driving ending done by the other McVie and Fleetwood. A lot of people read into the lyrics that even tho they were all tearing apart, The Chain (their music) would keep them together. In many ways this album (Rumours) is in the conversation for best album of all time. Every track is a killer, three different songwriters all hitting their stride at the same time yet producing a cohesive whole, a band that can kick ass musically, amazing harmonies and one of the best recorded/produced albums of the analogue era.
@JayTor2112

The album before this, the self-titled one, is kind of overlooked in favor of Rumours, but it's almost as good imo. The first album from this era of FM, with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. "I'm So Afraid", and "Rhiannon" are highlights. They had a few "tansitional" albums between the the Peter Green era and this one, where they were morphing from a blues band into a pop-rock band, with a few different members, like Bob Welch.

Great album, a true masterpiece from the 70’s. God we were spoiled, every week it was this, or the new Zeppelin, or the new Who, or the new Skynyrd or the new Supertramp, or the new Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, ZZ Top or…..you get the picture , y’all got a lot of work to do🤣🤣

I've been listening to them since Rumours, when I was in grade school. We'd play the whole album and dance and sing along. I also associate this song with a really heartbreaking but powerful scene in The Guardians of the Galaxy 2. One of their best out of many incredible songs.
