Awesome animation! I’ve searched your videos looking for something about RF welding. There are many RF welders where I work. They manufacture single use medical products such as IV bags. I’ve been curious how these machines actually work. I’ve been told it’s similar to radar or a microwave but it’s black magic to me. Even on a rare occasion that we had to call in a technician to repair one of these machines they can’t really explain the process. That leaves me thinking that they really don’t know either. In my opinion if you can’t explain it you don’t know it. Have you ever considered doing a video about this process?

More importantly what's the difference with the right hand rule? Because that's the convention used in my textbooks... These conventions gave me a lot of headaches for nothing... Now I just use the right hand rule for everything. Just have to keep in mind the difference between generators and motors !

Or you could use the T_Rat RIGHT hand rule… THE index finger also known as the pointer finer points in the direction of current flow ( pointer finger points in the diection of what you know first which is the current diection- easy to remember), THE middle finger points in the direction of the magnetic field N_S (middle - magnet, easy to remember) THE Thumb (first digit) is the direction of force (first - force, easy to remember) By the way, I have NEVER seen any one refer to the index or pointer finger as the finger number one, except on this video.

As a non-electrician but an operator who has had sync very large generators to the grid, I still can't put this into practice. Maybe I just need to connect up a few motors and I'll finally be able to apply this rule. And for the life of me, I can't find out how you can carefully disconnect a 3-phase motor and an exact replacement and installed as marked when removed, runs backwards. I understand the rule, I just can't put into practice.

It's easy to update this for modern usage/terminology: Index finger is force (intuitive) Thumb is magnetic field Three small fingers are electron flow (they make the shape of an E) Also works for EM waves: Index finger is wave propagation Thumb is magnetic field Three fingers are electric field This is way more intuitive and simple than trying to use Fleming's original rule and then flip the result 180°
