I picked up bits and pieces. I really wish I could just immerse myself in the language.

Do it! Today if you have the will you can easily learn another language. Videos in French with French subtitles are great for immersing and for getting your brain used to reading. Do it everyday on KZfaq. Start now.

I’m learning Kouri-Vini, but I’m picking up words...but it also reminds me a lot of the Spanish that I’ve already learned. I really wish I could start a Kouri-Vini or LF Table group where I live. Are there any groups like that in the North? I'm in Bloomington, IN.

Kimiko, try getting in touch with the French Department, or the Creole Institute there in Bloomington at Indiana University. Seek out Professor Kevin J Rottet, and tell them what your interests are. I am sure they can help in some way.

@Da Boot I grew up in that area. Not sure there's anyone left that speaks it. Maybe in Lutcher.

He says that if you go to Edgard you'll find differences (in the French spoken there vs. in Vacherie) and that if you go to Lafayette you'll find difference there, too, but people from all of those places can still understand each other.
