How Inmates Train To Get Muscular | Prison Style Workout

Inmates train with intensity that is rarely seen in the outside world. They do so not just to pass the time or to relieve the stress of confinement, but because in the environment of prison society, being strong is synonymous with being safe.

The gym that I was a member closed back in December. I've been doing body weight exercises, improvising weights using cat litter jugs, home depot buckets filled with rocks, boxes of flooring, cinder blocks, and doing HIIT everyday. I'm leaner, more defined and my joints feel much better. I don't even want to find another gym, just go to the basement. Improvise, overcome and adapt.

I think the most important thing is the mindset. Having little to no Social media interaction and no "USE THIS NEW SCIENCE STUDY/TRAINING MEHTHOD FOR GAINS" nonsense that distracts you from doing your workout is a MASSIVE help. Also i found one thing extremely important in this Video: Use the workout as a form of meditation. Being focussed when working out is EXTREMELY important in my opinion.

I spent a year in a federal prison, Texarkana Federal Prison to be exact. We had 2 weight piles, the upper and the lower. I had to learn what times certain weights were spoken for before I could use them. After a few months of working out alone and making gains, I was finally offered to workout in a CAR (they called it a car because it was a group and one person had the keys to the car aka the leader) This car had the upper and lower bench scheduled for twice a week, “hell yeah dog! I wanna hit chest as much as possible” It was hard to get enough protein everyday so I ate about 2-3 ramen per day on top of chow hall and would add 1 large pack of tuna per day(all I could afford) To offset the high carb intake, I ran sprints, sprint about 40 yards and walk back, then sprint back. Did those for about 20-30 mins a day. Rest days I would walk the track and do pushups, pull-ups and reverse pushups Put a trash bag in a laundry bag and fill it with water, do curls

That philosophy came from bodybuilders because pro bodybuilders do very high volume with weights and weights breaks down more tissue which can lead to a longer recovery. They may do 30 sets on a weighted chest workout! Steroids help them recover faster where as one of us may need 12 days of recovery after that. Calisthenics is easier to recover from but you still build muscle, strength, and athleticism! Some people hit weights every day but they start with a strategy. Just start at four days a week and gradually add a day over time, build yourself up thats why it's called training.

They get extra food from prison comissary where they buy the food with their own money. Also They get 2600 to 3000 calories a day from the meals that the government provides them. They can get big with just those meals as long as they lay on their bed and relax when they aren’t working out so their bodies stay on a caloric surplus. A dude can weigh 200 lbs of muscle as long as he spends as little energy as possible when he is not working out. If he stays in bed ir sits down for most of the day and works out for 1 hour a day he is getting enough energy from food that he is spending

@@eemelirantala Interesting. Should start a prison workout trend. Folks would definitely be interested in how they can get that big and still have the cardio locked in. 3000 calories is decent I guess, but I figured the huge folks needed 8 to 10 just to maintain it.
