Greetings from Spain: It is incredible that in its condition that Moskvich 401 is capable of working, well the effort you have put into making it work also has merit. This vehicle was actually a German-made Opel and the former USSR took all the machinery to manufacture it, as war booty and manufactured it under the name of Moskvich, but I see that the workers of the USSR maintained the good German quality in its manufacturing. , is one of the reasons why this vehicle is still able to function...thanks to its good manufacturing quality... The vehicle you show is a good base for a restoration because it is very complete...it does have a lot of work and a good amount of money is needed...

that is a high quality made engine when it starts and keeps running after sitting outside for 26 years. todays engines fail to soon. the exhaust fumes are blueish, there is some oil burning in the engine, that means there is already some damage in the engine, new oil in the engine would be important to prevent further damage. i like the nice classic forms, how the headlights integrate into the front of the car, the round forms. a new paint and that thing will then look like new.

It may have been in roadworthy condition. The reason is that in 1990s many used cars went from germany, like audi 80, 100, mb w124 and so on. They were much more comfortable and reliable for their cheap price. This way, many ussr cars were left to rot somewhere on backyard, even in good condition

That is just the literally simplicity of old Russian cars...or any Russian cars for that matter. You wonder why every single dashcam video from Russia has an old Lada in it...because they're so simple that they'll run on old stale gasoline and you can fix them with any rubber bands or duct tape that's around...just like a small block Chevy.
