Thanks for the high quality video, but there is no focus on the most important part of a desk: stability. No testing this at all (shaking on max. heigh etc.).

Great review, thanks for the side by side shots. The one thing missing was a stability (rocking / wobbling) test at maximum extension - the main downfall of many cheaper standing desks.

A key detail on the E5 you didn’t mention (and important to mention as you cited desk size as the biggest issue) that the under frame has an adjustable width, which the Bekant doesn’t. Also the 10 year guarantee for ikea doesn’t include electrical motor and legs.

Thanks for the very informative video, but I also think that the most important part of the desk is stability and you completely missed this. I can easily see specs of both by going to the respective sellers web sites but I think you should concentrate on the elements that are not shown by the sellers. Cheers

Fantastic review good sir, very professional. I'm looking into the Flexispot desks and you're the first review that I've come across that even suggests using a different desktop with the frame. Personally am looking to purchase a bespoke, solid wood top to put on...just need to be sure of weight and will hopefully come out with a really nice desk! Thanks for taking the time for the review :)

Thanks for the review! Looking to get one of those. For all the short peeps like me it's hard to find a desk that starts at around 60cm , unfortunately cheaper frames from flexi spot are quite tall starting at 71cm + So those 2 desks are really the only option :)

Agreed! I just ordered a cheaper flexispot (a C model) which starts at 71cm - my current desk is 70cm. Ideally a desk for my height would be around 68cm, so I figured I would use something elevated to rest my feet on rather than spend a lot more money on a desk that fits.

You don't mention anything about stability really in this. I'm considering getting either the E5 or the Bekant, but saw a review of the E5 that shows that the E5 was quite wavy when pushed horizontally. This could be a problem for me as I have monitors on arms and if the desk wobbles when moving my mouse around, i start to get a little infuriated. Which of the two would you say is the most stable?

That fabric cable management system on the Ikea seems like a potential dust magnet.
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 4 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean. I haven't noticed a big dust problem with it, and I think it's because it's so tight against the underside of the desk there's not much room for air to flow through to carry dust.

I was really not sure between the two. But then chose the flexispot E5 over the bekant because after watching other reviews who pointed out the instability of the bekant top. This you unfortunately left out completely.

Yeah, you got the one that looks easy to build. My E5 came in different pieces and once put together, looks completely different than yours. The directions are different too… They probably sent you something other than what they said they sent you. That kinda sucks for us who are looking how to build this damn thing. It’s definitely not fool-proof, lol.

@wiedapp
@wiedapp 4 жыл бұрын
Out of experience I would personally never go with a motorized desk. I would go straight for a frame with a hand crank. Have to put up with repairs on such motorized desks at work all the time (other vendors and models, but hundreds of desks in my company). They are repairable, but getting the parts is a proverbial pita...

you can get third party motors now no?
@wiedapp
@wiedapp 3 жыл бұрын
@@verygoodbrother The Motors aren't the issue. It's mostly the control box, specifically the relays inside. They can be changed (requires soldering), but only to the same cheapo chinese ones and nobody knows how long that will last, so it is a two edged sword to do that to our customers (even though it's all company internal, they are still our customers). Sometimes exchanging the relays doesn't help either and then you have put work into something, that you can't really demand payment for, as the customer still doesn't get a working device back.
@verygoodbrother

@@wiedapp I've seen some open source 3rd party controllers so hopefully we see more in the future or a manufacturer adopting this route
@wiedapp
@wiedapp 3 жыл бұрын
@@verygoodbrother Problem is, you do not only steer the motors up or down, you have to know where the height is, in order to know when to slow down the movement, so you don't bang the motor against the end of the rail, potentially damaging the motor or the desk. Furthermore these desks don't always have only one motor, there can be as many as there are legs. These habe to be synchronized in movement, so the table stays level. These motors are not just positive and negative for power, but you have a unknown signal, that provides the control box with the needed information, be it position, being level, resistance of movement (too much weight or an obstacle). It's not as simple, as it sounds.

Thinking about buying a desk-mounted monitor stand. And i know The IKEA LINNMON is very fragile and breaks where the monitor arm attaches to the Table top. I on the other hand have a IKEA BEKANT and just wondering if you have any experience with it breaking or giving in with the monitor arm? 🤔
@AVTechy
@AVTechy 2 жыл бұрын
I've had a couple of desk clamp monitor stand setups with the IKEA desk. I previously had a dual monitor arm with two 23" monitors. And I currently have a single monitor arm with a 32" monitor. I've not experienced any issues yet and it's been at least 5 years.

Keep wanting to get the Bekant but feel that the top may be a little too thin... I have 2 32inch widescreen monitors, a mic with an arm and a lighting with an arm. I have previously had desktop tops which have cracked due to the weight, each monitor is 18kg. The current desk i have is 0.5 inch which really does not like much weight being added.

E5 can hold upto 100kgs but all IKEA desks including Idasen , Bekant, Rudolf can hold upto 70kg only
@AVTechy

Take that with a pinch of salt. I have stood on my IKEA desk when it's fully loaded with a Desktop, monitors, and the rest. That's roughly 85kg and it's never had an issue. Although I wouldn't try raising the desk with that much load (I wouldn't try that with either to be honest - it's not worth the hassle if something does go wrong). More importantly, IKEA desks tend to come with a very long warranty period. Mine's got 10 years, and I think it's the same for most. Take that with a pinch of salt too, but I've heard they're generally very good about replacements.

Be careful with this brand! I'm not talking about the quality of the products, but about the brand itself. Specifically, I ask all clients to be very careful with the brand's promotions since I and several clients have had some very unpleasant experiences. They carry out promotions without any kind of guarantees, commercial hooks that border on misleading advertising. When they are asked for the legal bases of the promotions that you have the right to access as a consumer, they do not provide them to you and despite admitting failures in the web shopping platform during the promotions, the solution they offer is to return the product . Sorry @flexispot but not everything is allowed in online sales, consumers also have rights, respect them. Ikea 1000% best
