Ten years after Mamma Mia! The Movie grossed more than $600 million around the world, you are invited to return to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi in an all-new original musical based on the songs of ABBA. With the film’s original cast returning and new additions including Lily James (Cinderella, Baby Driver), the musical comedy will open on July 20, 2018.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is produced by Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman, producers of the original film. Craymer is also the creator and producer of the worldwide smash-hit stage musical.
Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, writes and directs the sequel from a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Parker. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus return to provide music and lyrics and serve as executive producers. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes also serve as executive producers.
Reprising their roles from Mamma Mia! The Movie are Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep as Donna, Julie Walters as Rosie and Christine Baranski as Tanya. Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper reunite as Sophie and Sky, while Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Oscar® winner Colin Firth return to play Sophie’s three possible dads: Sam, Bill and Harry.
As the film goes back and forth in time to show how relationships forged in the past resonate in the present, James will play the role of Young Donna. Filling the roles of Young Rosie and Young Tanya are Alexa Davies (A Brilliant Young Mind) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Broadway’s Beautiful). Young Sam will be played by Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), while Young Bill is Josh Dylan (Allied) and Young Harry is Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends).

Yasss! I actually knew she could sing a bit from some of her previous projects but not that big like this in MM2. So happy she was cast she is amazing multitalented actress who really knows how to both sing and dance like she really can dance I am a dancer and a singer and one really knows if the other can really move to the rythm. Love her emotions she is so passionate and genuine. She is flawless! ❤

Did anyone else notice this .. in the first film Sophie had her two best friends Ali and Lisa who she reads Donnas diary with and her bridesmaids at her own wedding. There is no mention of them in the second film. Surely, as best friends, they’d have made the effort to see a pregnant Sophie ..?

I’m late, but oh my god I thought I was the only one! When Sophie said she had something else to tell them, they were all excited saying ‘Oh my god Sophie, you’re pregnant!’. You would have thought they would have a small mention during Sophie’s actual pregnancy, but no. This still annoys me to this day. 😂

I think the Donna character died and they all got together because of this. From what I’ve read somewhere (fans/Internet) that she died of cancer or something. It’s good to see Donna on this preview but it totally sucks that they killed her off. Mama Mia is not Mama Mia without her (just me). I don’t even want to watch this in the theatre 😭.

+Planner Cookie I'm sorry but Lily James (younger Donna) is not the same as Meryl Streep. I loved Lily in the movie but the way Meryl plays Donna is unbeatable older Donna is just more fun. They could have kept Meryl Streep alive as the movie was really only about younger Donna. They could have just made it Donna remembering her past. Also it made no sense that Sophie's "grandma" was still a,I've but I still loved the movie.

Amy Henderson no, they couldntve kept Donna alive. Meryl explicately stated that she didnt want a big part in the sequel, as she had never done a sequel ever in her career and didnt want to break this. So stop acting like it was the writers' fault! It wasnt! And Lily James did a fabulous job.

Lily was a perfect representation of young Donna, she was like Meryl 100% playing Donna. Such an awesome job, she was Perfect. Meryl was so amazed and loved her in the role so much. They were the same with the age apart. Loved it... This movie was so wonderful. I laughed, I cried and it was Beautiful. I understand why Meryl choose this end for the character...it was sad but so beautiful and touching. I was confused why Lily was chosen to play Donna at first when I found out about the casting...because they don't really look alike, but after watching the movie I realized how perfect the choice was.

AND NOT ONLY THAT, CHER IS THE MOTHER OF MERYL, MERYL IS THE MOTHER OF AMANDA, AND ALL THE FAMILY RELATIONSHIP YOU COULD THINK OF BETWEEN THE THREE OF THEM. I still think that Meryl is dead. I believe her scenes aren’t necessarily flashbacks but dreams/hallucinations of sort. I don’t believe she’s actually there in that moment.

I think Meryl is actually dead in this movie but the scenes where she is in, its sort of like a dream I guess like it’s not real.

kindaouttaluck That’s the vibe I got too. It seemed a bit melancholy. Sort of how other musicals bring back a dead character for a duet. Like Into The Woods. It’s a fantasy or a dream... that’s what I think is going here. We’ll see! I have tickets for opening night!!

I still think that Donna is dead. And the parts with Meryl will be flashbacks and then there will be the same kind of closing song with ALL the cast like there was in the first movie where they sang "Waterloo" where it's just a song and doesn't have anything to do with the actual plot.

If Donna is dead which I think she is, then the part in 1:55 is Sophie thinking back to a time with her mother or Donna is there in spirit. Haven't seen the movie, so just have to wait and see but I think Meryl parts are flashbacks not present time.

I think it’s a time jump - Donna is alive at the beginning, THEN she dies and we jump forward the ten years for the rest of the film.
